Leaving for Belton Friday! Can't wait!
We need to meet up! Get some Shoepfs BBq!

Sounds like a plan. I think my family and I are leaving around noon friday.

LaCollegeFan,

If you need a good route to Belton, let me know. I've been driving regularily to Central Texas from Pineville for 6+ years and have found what I think is the best way to go. We're heading out on Friday as well.

Well, my LC friends, as much as I care for you during the season, I obviously want to win this week! I think the game will be close early, but I think the Cru's depth will win out in the end. Plus, Darius is back to being healthy, LiDarral is ready to take the lead as a passer first, and the D feels as though they can stop anyone. It will be interesting to see this match up. Louisiana has  a lot to prove, and UMHB should have a chip for not getting a better seeding in the tournament. I wish we were in separate brackets so that we had a better chance to move ahead, but that's how it is.

What could UMHB have done to get a better seeding (higher than its #3) in the tourney?

Here are my thoughts:

1)  Tell Trinity not to lose to Sul Ross State and/or Centre and end up as a regionally ranked team.
2)  Play another team for non-conference instead of a relatively weak Kean team, especially a regionally ranked South Region team if possible.
3)  Have the ASC win more South Region non-conference games to boost the OWP/OOWP (Strength of Schedule). For example:

Have Louisiana College find a South Region opponent for non-conference.
Have HSU beat Willamette and better yet Linfield!
Maybe Sul Ross can find an in-region team to play, kinda like a Whittier as in 2009.
TLU did beat Austin College, but I wonder if a win over Trinity snuffs the chance to get Trinity a Regionally Ranked team.
Have ETBU beat Willamette and/or Wesley.
Have Mississippi College beat Millsaps, and find another South Region team or two to boost the In-region record.
Have Howard Payne find another in-region opponent to beat.

Agreed Ralph. Nicely put together. Each year we whin and complain about the NCAA and the imperfections of the d3 playoff system. However the ASC as a whole hasn't done a very good job of helping itself to get past the texas/asc sub bracket. Nicely put together post my friend. Should be a great game to bad its the first round. Good luck to both sides.

umhb2001,

Schoepfs sounds good. I'll let you know. It would have to be before the game, because we will be leaving right afterwards. I would like to stay over to Sunday, but I have some commitments I must honor on Sunday.

Thanks Cowboyfan.

I hope that LaCollege gives UMHB a run for their money and that the LaCollege first round game is the closest game that UMHB has on its way to winning the Stagg Bowl.

I personally think that LaCollege is the third best team in the South Region (especially after losses by JHU and Waynesburg to lesser quality foes) and the committee criteria probably had them as a #5 seed,  using the Handbook criteria.
I respect W&J, but W&J rarely matches well against Texas/ASC teams.

I'm just saying that it seems strange that they would be ranked two all year in both national polls and then all of a sudden they are third because the NCAA uses different criteria. That seems weird, so they should have extra motivation to prove something to the NCAA. They already have motivation, I'm just saying they can use more to move them on their way. That's all.

I concur, who would have thought that Kean would not be in the running for the NJAC this year. Can not control Trinity games. Plus how many rank teams has UMHB play, alot. If they really looked at last year playoff, it would indicate that out of the four teams, realisticall UMHB should have been at least #2, just my opinion of course. The other things are not in UMHB control.

Congrats to Louisiana College's Dennis Dunn and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's Pete Fredenburg on sharing coach of the year honors.

Hey umhb2001,

I am going to have to take a rain check on Schoepfs. This trip is going to be a very quick turn around and we also have some LC students traveling with us - a mini-caravan as it were. Plus, we are going to try to spend some time with family in Temple, Salado and Florence, so there will really be no time to spare. We have to head back to Central Louisiana as soon after the game is over as possible.

I do hope to visit with some old friends before the game and during half-time, perhaps we can have the opportunity to at least shake hands. I'll pm you my cell #.

Interesting comments by Ralph; probably right on in regard to improving ranking position.  UMHB has tried to schedule better and better opponents; thought Kean would be better this year......
Nice videos by La Coll; I am sure that a number of UMHB players have seen both of these.  I expect the players and the coaches will, as usual, be taking post season play one game at a time, since there is no hearafter when a team loses!
Safe driving to all the La Coll family and fans traveling, as well as the UMHB family and fans!
I never would have thought in 1997 that the team and Coach Fredenburg would be so successful and bring so much attention and distinction to UMHB, Cru Athletics and the football program.  My hat's off to the dedication of the coaches, players and fans!!!
