According to the Temple Daily Telegram, Gallagher is out with a high ankle sprain, so that puts Simms at the healm for the forseeable future.

I am very comfortable with this. Simms received most of the snaps last year when LB was off the field. He has a good arm and can run, and he seems to be more emotional. The Kickoff preview says that Gallagher is the emotional leader, but from what I have seen, he can be fairly quiet and Simms is a little louder.

I'd expect UMHB to run, run, run till their daddy takes the T-bird away, as the offenseive line is stout with returning, solid rushers. Short shots down the field to quick receivers on bubble screens and slants. I'd also like us to get our TE in the mix, but we'll see. I expect a lot of sacks from our DE's and some ball hawking on the outside from our CB's. Good, mental preparation for week three.

@d3jason

Lots of play action can really help aninexperienced quarterback get comfortable too.

I assume that UMHB is still running most of their stuff out of the pistol set?

I believe so, yes. Very successful last year, so hopefully we'll build off of that.

Just listened to the first Coach Fred coach's show on KTEM live from Schoepfs. Good stuff. I hope they publicize it more and more people listen. Lots of good information.

Prehaps there is a HSU fan out there that has more concrete information but it sounds like quite a few upgrades are on their way for Hardin Simmons including Shelton Field. I didn't catch any dates in the posted video but since the campaign says 2020 I am guessing some of the changes could take a while.

Watched the video. Good for HSU! I'm excited to see the other schools do this.

Over on the NW board, some of the boys are talking about the HSU games against NW teams. I hope they play well and beat both of them! Go ASC!

Talked with one of the coaches over lunch today. The stadium will be updated and will include covering the Home stands, turf and the overall aesthetic. The wellness center, which is going to be one of the highlights of the renovation will be next to the FB field where the tennis courts are now, ground is supposed to break on it in 2014. some of the renovations will be relatively quick, but others are a little more intensive, like rerouting a major thoroughfare.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

MC has gotten the OK to go D2 apparently and will leave the ASC at the end of this year.

RICHARDSON, Texas --- Mississippi College will withdraw its membership in the American Southwest Conference on June 30, 2014 after learning it has been accepted to immediately begin the reclassification process to NCAA Division II, the ASC announced today

In September 2012, Mississippi College announced it would seek Division II membership and would withdraw from the ASC after the 2013-14 year if accepted. MC applied and was denied admittance to Division II Candidacy Year One in mid-July. The institution appealed that decision by the Division II Membership Committee in mid-August and was informed late Thursday that its appeal had been approved and it would enter the reclassification program immediately.

Mississippi College will remain a member of NCAA Division III and the American Southwest Conference in 2013-14 as it completes the first year of the Division II membership process.

"Mississippi College and its athletics staff and coaches have provided leadership in athletics administration and competition throughout its tenure in the American Southwest Conference," Amy Carlton, ASC commissioner, said. "I fully expect MC to continue to be a leader in the ASC as it completes its membership this year, and to take a strong leadership position in Division II and the Gulf South Conference in the future."

The immediate start of the Division II membership process will affect postseason opportunities for Mississippi College in 2013-14.

Per NCAA Division III Bylaw 20.6.9.1 as adopted in January 2013 (aka the McMurry Proviso?), a Division III member institution reclassifying to Division II is not eligible to participate in Division III championships or receive Division III grant and initiative funding once it begins the Division II reclassification process.

Under an approved Division III Championships Committee waiver requested by the American Southwest Conference in May 2013, contests against Mississippi College will count as in-region competition for all ASC and Division III institutions throughout 2013-14.

An ASC member institution that is ineligible for a Division III championship is ineligible to participate in the ASC Championship Tournament in sports where the league holds an automatic qualifier to the NCAA postseason. During 2013-14, Mississippi College teams in AQ sports will count toward regular-season standings, but will not be able to compete in the ASC Championship Tournament and play for the conference title. Student-athletes remain eligible for academic, weekly and postseason awards in all sports.

Which knocks about 360 miles off the travel requirement to get to Clinton...

This puts new urgency on the approval of football by the various stakeholders at UT-Tyler.

Did not realize that HSU played last night, and what a score? Was there a video feed? 60+ points? Wow. Sorry to see that happen.

There was a video feed, Willamette came out swinging with a very fast paced offense and was up 23-0 with 9 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

That sure puts a lot of pressure on HSU next week and obviously every week moving forward.
