First time wandering over to the ASC thread since the semi-final last year, but thought I'd step in a little bit.  Quick background...born and raised in Webster, NY (suburb of Rochester), alum of Mt. Union, lived in Austin and Corpus Christi for about 6 years, and just moved back to CC this fall.

About cold weather in the south?  Even as a winter sports enthusiast, the coldest I have ever felt was when Corpus Christi had a white Christmas in 2004.  It does somehow feel different and can remember some dang cold moments in Austin during icestorms, too.

The hospitality at UMHB is great.  I met a few fans when I randomly went to a game up there against TLU and wore a Mt. Union shirt.  It was before UMHB really took off, but even then I was impressed by the talent in just their 3rd year or so.  That game was played at the high school stadium...I'd love to get up someday to the new one.  That's a loooong drive when I work every Sunday morning, though!  If Mount plays there, though, you can bet I'll make it.  Might even take day off from church to do it!

If UMHB is anything like they were last year in the semi-final (probably the best Mt. Union game I've watched), the speed of SJF is absolutely no match.  I actually picked UMHB to beat Mt. Union in my bracket and haven't seen much to take away from that.  Would love to see a hometown team (for me) win the game, but I don't see it happening this time.

So are you saying you don't see UMHB winning?
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

According to the Coach Fred show last night, The Cru should be at full strength, meaning WR/QB Marcus Whimby should be ready to resume his Wildcat position.

Up with the Purple!
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Just the opposite.  I think this has the potential to be the more lopsided of Saturday's games, though the weather could help keep it from getting too far out of hand.

now that would be cold for any area.  looks like the weather will play a part in several of the games this weekend.  All look like they will be cold and several may have precip coming down at some point.  safe travels to all that are moving to see a game.

In other ASC news, John Tyree has been relieved of his duties at Sul Ross State. The little information on it doesn't mention if it was his decision or not, but I am somewhat surprised either way since this was only his first season.

Has anyone else heard about any other coaching changes in the ASC?

Here's the story - they canned the entire staff (while asking them to stick around for the spring semester).  http://www.srlobos.com/news/2013/12/2/GEN_1202132056.aspx?path=general

Tyree was not only the acting (still?) FB coach, he was the AD, so now you have both an acting AD and acting head FB coach.

Tip for the student body of SRS, enroll in as many classes as possible that are taught by fired coaches.

Looks like the 12th man on Saturday will be Jack Frost. Seems he might play a role in many games on Saturday. Going to be interesting for sure.

Anybody know the SJF travel plans for this weekend?  Flying to Austin or somewhere south of Belton?  Wondering if there could be problems getting into town if ice is an issue on Friday.

Why would this be a factor?  Are we talking major snowstorm or low temps?

Apparently like all other southern states, there's a State of Emergency declared if it snows....
The views expressed in the above post do not represent the views of St. John Fisher College, their athletic department, their coaching staff or their players. I am an over zealous antagonist that does not have any current connection to the institution I attended.

Ice.   Texans (of which I am one) can hardly drive in snow, let alone ice, and there's not much roadway equipment to put stuff down to help with the problem.

Belton is on the southern end of it, but if SJF flies into D/FW there could be some tricky travel.  Hopefully they get in  tomorrow, things go downhill rapidly starting tomorrow night.

Ralph Turner

Ron is right.  The current weather system in Texas has warm (70's), moist (current dew point in the 60's) air.  When this Arctic blast drops the temperature 40+ degrees, we will get about 1/2 to 3/4 inches of rain on the ground before the sleet and ice storm hits. That puts another 1/2-1 inch of ice on everything.  The state is so spread out that you cannot get the equipment to all areas.  And besides it will be melted by Sunday.  Most Texans just shut down and wait for the whole thing to blow over.

Now that won't change the fact that the ball game is scheduled for the peak of the inclement weather.

I'd like to point out that when we beat Mount in 04 it was freezing cold and starting to snow. By the end of the game the field was starting to turn white and we made snow angels after the game. Just saying. I'm sure they will fly into Waco (our charter flights flew in and out of Waco) however Killeen is also an option. It has a much larger airport now than when I played.  Waco has a short runway and they would have to travel on i35 which is bad in good weather. Killeen I think would be the best choice. 30 minutes away and they would have to travel on a much calmer highway. Someone pulled over can slow down I35 to a crawl sometimes. I'm picking the CRU by 28.  Fingers crossed the stream is strong.
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.
