Pat mentioned in Triple Take that Silvio Diaz might miss Saturday's game. Anyone in or around Belton have a word on this news? Sure would hate to have him on the sideline in the biggest game of the season.  :-\

Thinking about coming by the tailgate area to meet some folks tomorrow. Who'll be there and how can I meet you?
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I've tried to use my contacts within the program to tell me what is going on, but no one is allowed to talk. Which tells me that he is out. Unless this is a stunt to try and throw off UWW, but I doubt it.

Competitive advantage or whatever aside, I really hope Diaz can play too. I think of all the hard work these kids put in all year and to miss a game like this really hurts. However this game turns out, it will create lifetime memories for these kids. Here's hoping all the players are healthy for both sides!

Go Hawks!

I doubt the UMHB coaches would bother messing around like that. We do what we do. It won't change based on a d-lineman playing or not, even a dominant one.

I don't think Saturday can come fast enough for any of us!  Since it will be a good 12 to 14 hours until Triple Take comes out (our next D3football fix), I thought I'd take a run at "Predicting the Predictors".

Here is my guess as to how the Triple Take contributors will predict Saturday's games:

(Of course if any of them read this before coming up with their own projected scores, it will pretty much assure my predictions will be wrong.)  ;)

Thanks Toby. Pat, it was fun. I listened to every podcast this year and read every triple take. I basically took the following into account:

1. My perception of your (meaning all three of you) perceptions of the teams.
2. Human nature. Two things here. I believe people are slow to change their perceptions of reality unless almost overwhelming evidence causes them to do so. I also believe that when a person makes a prediction, they are slow to come off that prediction when there is still a chance for it to come true. Which makes a lot of sense if they had strong convictions about their original predictions.

If nothing else, it got me through until Friday!  :)

Excited for the morning and looking forward to a great day of football.  Have my route planned, and snacks packed.  It should be fun at the CRUthedral, but I'm also disappointed not to see Mount Union play.  Oh well, if all works out right, I may get to see them next weekend.

See you in Belton.

Ralph Turner

Channel surfing tonight and saw a special that had a segment on Dallas Huston, the voice of Brownwood (and HPU) sports for 51 years.

I have always enjoyed listening to him paint a picture of a game with his careful and pleasant tones. Yes, his voice is characteristic, but he reminds me of "old-time" radio where the verbal description was almost as accurate as the image on the TV screen.

(Not many readers will remember the dean of SWC football, Kern Tips, who had that quality.)

I would love to hear Dallas Huston, possibly the dean of Texas non-professional football, do the Stagg Bowl.

I think that he did 4 Brownwood HS football state championships. I wonder if the Stagg Bowl is that big.  Not trying to be pejorative to our championship, but I remember a pro player who played his high school ball at Plano Senior High School, who was asked if winning the Super Bowl was the biggest thing in his life. The guy thought a minute and said, "No, winning the State Football Championship with my friends back at Plano High was."  I guess the Super Bowl was his job.  The State High School championship was his love.

Perhaps that is the same in D-3.  Maybe one or more of the introspective CRU players will have the chance to "blog" about that.

Good luck tomorrow.

That's a really nice "AWAKEN"!  Nice job Lauren!  Now let's go CRU.  Do  I really have to wait until 2:30????

Well finally made the decision to drive in from North of Dallas today for the game. Leaving the wife and daughter home to shop and taking my son. This could be an expensive football trip... ;)
