I thought it was interesting that HSU and UMHB both dropped in the regional rankings.

Where can I find regional rankings?

Bill,
You are oh so correct about the LA v UMHB game not needing to be played at this stage of the season.  The only thing it might accomplish is to make UMHB conference champs.  As you said, being conference champs is not as important as a deep run into the playoffs....one only has to look at last year to validate that point!

If UMHB replayed the missed game, would it change where they are seeded?

cruprez

probably not.....the only change it would bring about (with a win) is they would be ASC champs....I don't think it would effect their regional standing...but then again, sometimes it's difficult to see how and why they seed the way they do....must be a bunch of men doing the work--no logic....  hehe  just kidding....

I guess the regional and AFCA polls have nothing to do with each other because I dont understand the regional rankings.  The AFCA has UMHB ranked higher than the top 3 team in there region????

The AFCA poll and the regional rankings have nothing whatsoever to do with each other.  The regional rankings are based on a set of well-established (not necessarily valid, mind you) criteria, and the AFCA poll is your typical coaches' poll.

The regional rankings seem to ignore things like margin of victory, whereas coaches see 72-0 and go "wow!  they must be really good!"  Of course, UMHB is really good.  Fortunately the playoffs will let all the participants have a chance to show how good they are on the field.

For those who were wondering, Eric Alvarez's services were yesterday.  From what I have heard it was a very beautiful service.  My source told me that the church was packed.  It was in Stamford and for those of you that know Stamford know that it is not very big.  But the service was so full (my source said over 800 people) that they put people in sunday school rooms and set up monitors so people could watch the service.  The school of Rotan bused as many students as they could I heard, anywhere from elementary to the high school level.  Eric was a great guy and will be missed by so many.  Continue to pray for the families.  Eric's in-laws ahd to bury thier daughter today, so the families have had an extremely emotional two days with the funerals.  It's nice to be able to come on here and know that someone from Mississippi to Alpine is praying for people and can lay aside mascots and rivalries for people.

Thanks minni!

Nice report and it is appreciated.

May God be with the families and friends.

And I would say our poll is somewhere in between.

Pat, I would say your poll is the most accurate.

Not too sure because I'm not really up on it how it all works (I don't think the committee members are either), but if the game were played and UMHB won, their Quality of Wins Index would be lower, thus possibly resulting in a lower South Region seeding (and maybe a road game in Round 1).  Obviously, if the game were played and UMHB lost that would give them two losses against unranked opponents and they would sit home.

I was looking at the open dates and noticed that UMHB is listed as having an open date on September 9, 2006.  Didn't they schedule CNU for that date? Did the CNU game replace the Willamette series, or did it replace the Austin College game?  I noticed UW-Whitewater has an open date on September 9.  It's a shame that game couldn't happen rather than the CNU matchup (CNU 5-4 with Ferrum left).  Guess maybe they wanted a South Region game or maybe UW-Whitewater wasn't interested in a challenge.
