Quote from: BlazeofGlory on September 04, 2015, 10:37:49 AMThere's a lot of kids that would be good D3 players that have a "D1 or nothing" attitude. Quite simply, they'd rather go be a frat boy at Ole Miss than play Division III football at Millsaps or Belhaven.

I've heard the same about Texas, though, too -- just swap out "Ole Miss" for "UT-Austin" and the storyline is the same all the way through.

Would you say you have heard that in every state Pat? As much as I appreciate D3 and the other divisions, not many people grow up thinking they are going to do anything outside of the best option available.

Actually where I grew up in NJ kids really did look forward to going on to play DIII if they were all league or all region types. Then again, D1 crazy fandom just isn't the same in the north east as it is down here in the south or out west. And the density of lower level schools means that most kids go to camps or see games at the FCS or DIII level. Whereas most kids in the South/West have parents that went to large state schools because that's primarily what's available, that's not true in the north east, mid atlantic and midwest.

No, I definitely would not say that. Only in a couple of southern states where the D-III brand isn't very well established.

Although it was nice to watch The Cru on-line, the video feed was pretty bad so it was hard to see anything in detail. The Cru's O-Line seemed that they forgot that they were playing a regular season game. There were a lot of flags being thrown at The Cru for really foolish and basic errors. The Cru's D-Line came to play and did a pretty good job considering there were four freshmen starting in the backfield. I'm not sure what was happening with Anderson, but he was not playing like a senior with plenty of experience under his belt. Anderson seemed unable to read the defense and was not very mobile on his feet. But, to Anderson's credit he did have some great moments, he just didn't string enough of those great moments together. The 42-3 final score doesn't show the whole picture. It wasn't until the fourth quarter that The Cru picked up a lot of points. Coach Fredenburg has his work cut out for him as to what needs to be worked on for next week's home opener.

Well, from what I could see of the game, UMHB played well, started slow (what's new), but came along well at the end.

Offense: Zach played well. He threw some nice balls and the WR's made some good catches. His lone Int was a great play by the DE. I think Zach should have read it a bit better as a senior, but it was a great play on the ball. Blake had some good runs but did not throw well. The running game looked good. The o line looked a bit improved but missed some opportunities early.

Defense: CB's looked good on the ball and making hits. A couple Int's were made by good plays on the ball.

Special Teams: WOW  :o PR is electric. If we can stop the penalties, he'd be even better.

Highlight for me: Zane Boles looked good on his TD run. Bright future.

Can't wait for the home game, and I'd also like Kelly's view from the stands.

Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

As always the second sight cru will see the things those on the field at the moment won't, but that is the nature of the game.

But to start lets talk about the video feed, in which video production I can talk about. some hints, please quit with the panning to the scorebord when it is permenantly posted on the live image, panning away, we miss what is going on and we already have the information your panning away from the game to try to bring your viewer. It's like trying to put on a shoe, over your shoe.Once more if there is a pole between you shot location and your subject, quit shooting the pole.

I gave up on the video it was just too pixelated and went to the video from OWU, it was great quality, obviously, it's home so the quality was far better. By the way i'm not pounding the quality from a visiting video team, I understand your challenges to produce on the road and we do appreciate it, believe me. It's just some production aspects should be reviewed to correct and it is not the image, it's more about the shots.

So I listened to the OWU broadcast and I can tell you.
First off our play by crew is outstanding in comparrison, the OWU play by were condescending and in my view poor sports. I would have listened to John and Coach but they were two plays ahead of the video feed of OWU and it was weird to hear what was coming up and then see it play out later, just got too weird.

So listening to the OWU cast, they bashed the ASC "Who's ever heard of them and any of their schools" Umm hey hellas, the ASC team is 39 points over your team, a little respect should be given. John and Coach (UMHB's Play By) are upbeat, even for the opposition and respectful of teams we face, these guys from OWU reminded me of the two old men in the muppets, "get off me lawn yer darn kids" I was truly shocked, they spoke as though outside Ohio there is no football.

My impressions of the game, Slow and frustrating at first, but the first half is usually slow for the Cru, still, I know this team could have put at least three more TD's on the board against OWU, the Cru seemd to be their own enemy. And I think that is what is bothersome, at least to me, I know the talent UMHB has. OWU's punt return is flat out great, that young man could move I was impressed. But our Special teams simply rocked it, the D line are monsters as well, the beasts were released. the O line, wellllll....frustrating, it's gotta get worked out. I loved the fact that Zane Boles finished, and showed promise.
The OWU guys could not understand why we had Zach, Blake, Zane, Michael, Malcolm and Dwayne rotating in..."why are they using three quarterbacks, and thee backs so much. Well gentlemen from OWU, i'd like to let you know, because UMHB played like an anaconda last night, they choaked your game to a crawl, and inserted Malcolm (who the play by guys seemed to fear) to pound your line into submission, and to finish off, inserted Dwayne to slice and dice you in the fourth to finish the job.
A 42-3 game is a good start overall, it was a tad bit messy, but it is the start of the season...

I think it's probably important to remember that your visiting video person is doing more than one job. If they're panning over to the scoreboard, that's because they are also taping for the coaches, and, frankly, that's more important than your desire for specific shots.

But if that was their desire, they shot a pole, which blocked out the scoreboard they were supposed to pan to, that was the point. And as stated, the scoreboard image is inserted into the shot already which would show on any frap or copy software, so there would be no need. And also stated, it is very appreciated what a traveling team video crew does and their challenges, but this was about production, not broadcast

Actually, no -- coaches are not watching the low-res broadcast feed, they're watching the version recorded locally. That version is then fed through a laptop, which adds the scoreboard.

I'm pretty sure OWU's broadcasters are students, not professionals.

I just wanted to post this so everyone going to Alpine Tx to play Sul Ross would know how you will be treated as an opposing team. When TLU arrived at the stadium for warm ups the gates on the visitor side for the team entrance were locked and the team had to stand out side in the 95 plus heat until someone came and unlocked the gate (about half hour). Then in the middle of the 3rd quarter the sprinklers on the visitors side of the field came on and caused a 15 minute rain delay when it did not rain. Then after the game the football locker rooms were locked (visitors side)so the team had to again wait 10 to 15 minutes till we got it opened so the team could shower before the 6 hour ride back to Sequin. Poor sportsman ship. What a disgrace, no respect at all. If you do not want to play a particular team do not put them on your schedule. I drove over 500 miles ( one way) to witness this welcome for our team. I can only hope that the rest of teams scheduled to play Sul Ross this season gets a better reception.

Pat Coleman

Disorganization doesn't necessarily mean disrespect. It's opening week for everyone and I daresay Sul Ross State is a pretty bare-bones athletic department.

I can never convince myself to make the trip to Alpine since it is so far, however I haven't heard great reviews before. Every thing I have heard seemed to come from a lack of caring/resources. Did they seem to actively treat the Bulldogs badly?

zipmac22

What I have noticed over the years of The Cru playing Sul Ross is that the majority of the players are good hearted and honest, but they always seemed to have a little more than a handful of players that skirt around the rules and play dirty. I would hope that their actions are that of their own, but after seeing a pattern over the years it makes one wonder if the coaching staff turn a blind eye to that behavior.
