I am going to be in Texas over Thanksgiving and the first weekend in December. If UMHB can keeping winning, it would be great to take in two playoff games. I am also holding out hope for a Linfield vs. UMHB re-match in the semi's. If everything mentioned in this post occurs, I will be one happy DIII fan!

cruprez,

You can count on my eating my weight in BBQ when I am in Texas! In the Northwest BBQ is a verb, it is something you do to hot dogs and hamburgers. Of course in Texas, BBQ it is a noun!

Just out of couriosity, would HSU have had a better chance of getting a Pool C bid if HPU had lost to MC? Having HPU and HSU tied for second place in the ASC clearly made it impossible.

I am thinking the depth of good teams in the South region was the major factor in HSU not getting in.  Kind of like in high school football....a 7-3 team doesn't go to the playoffs in one district but a 4-6 team goes in another district...go figure...

HPU had three losses (two in-region); the conference tie for second was irrelevant.   Given the selection committee's apparent desire to have eight teams per region no matter how bad some of the regions are, there was just no way for a two-loss team from TX to get in as a Pool C.

Ron, I think you are right.  It seems to me that the east is incredible weak.

Ron, Does the Trinity QB compare to any of the QBs in the ASC?  It seems in the local paper they have dogged him a bit, when there has been coverage.

In reference to looking ahead:

UMHB should take one game at a time. They should not look ahead to any game but the present. Trinity is not going to just lay down and let the cru run all over them. That's just how we do it here. We don't look ahead except to that week's game. Last year we didn't even work on getting fan buses until we knew we were moving on the the next game.

UMHB-alum-incatland:

It would be great to have you back down here. This week we will be in the process of getting word out to go to the game. Thanksgiving will be a harder game to get people too, but we will see. However, we have to take care of Trinity first and go on from there.

I think you will find the Cru DOES take one game at a time....

Having played the game myself, I understand that there are no guarantees and that looking ahead for a team can be, and usually is disastrous... however, I do have scenarios that I hope pan out  ;D. UMHB is playoff seasoned. I am quite confident they will take it one game at a time... one team at a time.

Trinity's not as vertical as in years past, but Cannon has been getting the job done.  He's no Roy Hampton (please, no River Walk jokes), but even with some mid-season issues led the conference in passing yards and passing effeciency.  They don't seem to lose much when the second string QB (Barmore) comes in.

I don't know who I would compare him with in the ASC.  While he will tuck and run the ball on occasion, he's not a Sellers type who is going to dominate a game that way.  He's not a pure passer like Jordan Neal, either.  Of the starting ASC QB's, Jordy Bernhard might be the closest fit, except that he's not as accurate.

In reference to ASC and next year's out-of-conference schedules.  I am pretty sure I read where HSU is playing Linfield...for starters.

Good luck to UMHB...keep us TEXANS happy! :)

Well I was sorry to see HSU lose at TLU on Saturday night.  I went to the game and just now got my bearings back.  That was actually a great game to watch as a fan as it went back and forth.  HSU had an opportunity to win it at the end but the TLU defense held tough.  That TLU defense was just up to the task of shutting down the HSU offense all night.  Man I feel terrible, I was making plans for a trip to San Antonio.  We all know the saying.

I have a son that plays for HSU and he has been on the JV so it could have been much worse for me!  I hope that he hits the weights this offseason and can contribute to the varsity team next year.  I have read more than I have posted this year and I have enjoyed all the information.  Thanks to everyone.

Best of luck to UMHB and it would be nice to see you guys win it all.  Without a doubt the Cru was the best team I saw play all year.

Doesn't ETBU play Trinity?

In all fairness to the East Region Pool C bids,

Wilkes was 2nd in the MAC.  The MAC moved from the South Region to the East Region in 2004.  Wilkes had an ugly first week loss to WPU to go with the loss to MAC Champion Del Valley, but the MAC is a good football conference.  ETBU lost to MAC's Lycoming in 2003.

Cortland State has a loss to Rowan but a win over Ithaca and were NJAC Co-champs.

Hobart was runner-up in the LL.

I think that it is clear that HSU's 2nd loss did them in.  Proverbially, it was HSU's Pool C bid to lose!  :(

Maybe the problem is the 'regions' themselves.... I've long complained that the 'south' region got changed forever when the ASC grew into it's current proportions.... the south extends from PA to West TX... The west covers all of CA as far east as 'some' of the WI schools, while others are in the North. Pat has mentioned that Lakeland and Whitewater are in different regions.... Maybe now with 32 teams they should consider trying to balance things out in 8 regions. Maybe the regions need to be dynamic and be 're-drawn' after the top 32 teams are identified, and 1-32 has been established and strength of region/travel/???? could be factored in...
