Talked with a FB from McMurry Thursday, and move in day for them is today. He also told me that ALL of the starting offensive linemen opted to not return after their coach accepted another position out of state. If that's accurate...what a blow to the team. I'm working with several HSU players and they are looking forward to a good year...biggest concern is replacing Jesse Ramos, but they say some of the new guys have ggod speed. should be fun to watch.

Hello everyone, ready for another season of cowboy football.  Early thoughts as I made it out to see the boys in action this week.   Energy is great, players flying around all over the field, very excited.  Early two cents
Question marks: obviously the d line, hard to determine this early if we can come close to replacing last years beasts. I will continue to monitor this as we move forward and see more good on good in practices.   Also for me the running back position is still wide open  looking forward to see who steps up here.

Strengths: QB position is solid along with a lot of returning O linemen up front.    Defense is crazy fast at the skill positions.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and throw our receiving crew in as a strength but allow me to make my case here.  Ramos is impossible to replace, he is a rare find with that speed. However I feel we are a more complete group as a whole.  I have seen no less than six speedy receivers (not Ramos speed) but fast enough, on the field and have made some incredible catches.   Maybe it's wishful thinking but we will see on this feeling.   Don't forget our kicker/punter, he is a true weapon in the special teams department and will help pin plenty of teams deep which will help the defense.

I agreed with the preseason rankings and know the Cru is still the team to beat , but also know we best not sleep on anyone cause the conference is tough and loaded with teams that can beat anyone at anytime.

Anyways, I was new to the board last season and enjoyed the friendly conversations with many of you and will try to post updates and opinions throughout the season.   #purplereign WeRideWeWin!!!!

I wonder if they already updated their football roster (http://www.mcmurrysports.com/roster.aspx?path=football) which only shows six OL and no seniors.     They haven't added the freshman class yet.

Nice Ahead of the Curve Article. Great to see Kris Brown back, Blake is the starter and Bryce Wilkerson to Wide receiver? Looks like new eyes on this line, I dig that, exploring options, sharpening the tools and such.

McMurry had their first practice today and their article said they welcomed 125 players, hopefully that includes a few extra o-line.

Hey yeah! I get to give Hooyah their first +.

I do that with more knowledge than I've ever had of the ASC.
I drove from D.C to Orange County mainly on Hwy 20 because I wanted to stay in Abilene and tour HSU. My impression? Sul Ross is more in the middle of nowhere than HSU.  :)

As far as D3 football goes, it's hard to say anyone is more in the middle of nowhere than Sul Ross. Those conference trips to Sul Ross are the ugliest in DIII. I can't imagine La Col to SRST or the reverse. 800 miles, 11+ hours each way. I know teams have taken longer trips, but that's a conference match up! Uggh... That alone might have convinced MC to go DII. And yet here's is Belhaven lining up for 900 miles and 12 hours 45 minutes each way!

I made that trip to SRSU when visiting Big Bend earlier in the year.  I briefly considered coming back for a game, but then thought better of it.  Maybe when my son is a little older.
