So I was listening to the podcast (Good show guys) and thought of a crazy offseason thing to do, use a random number generator to decide the top in DIII.  and here are the results

1 Stevenson 2 Carnegie Mellon 3 UW-River Falls 4 UW-Eau Claire 5 Endicott 6 St Vincent 7 Grinnell 8 Carthage 9 Lawrence 10 DePauw

Now this has absolutely no official baring to anything remotely scientific or even logical, simply 10 randomly generated numbers to select the top ten. But for fun the website also has a game simulator...so I decided to sim some 2017 games.

Like Linfield v UMHB 20 to 35 ( I like that) so I've decided as a project to sim alot of the top ten teams and their games for 2017. And lets see how accurate it may/could/might be.

Interesting that this randomization generated two WIAC teams, two MWC teams and two PAC teams.

Cru adds a new coach (Receivers, JV HC) as Steven Thrash will replace the outgoing Kieth Mullins - http://cruathletics.com/news/2017/7/17/football-adds-steven-thrash-to-coaching-staff.aspx

Best of luck to Kieth at Tolar High.  The Mullins clan did great things in Belton.  Any opinions from our resident TLU fans/alums on Thrash?  My wife's cousin is really involved with ACU athletics and says the coach was well liked up in Abilene.

I know in the past some discussion has come up as to whether or not UT-Tyler might eventually add football. According to a report in the June 20 issue of the Kilgore News Herald, UT-T president Dr. Michael Tidwell recently addressed the issue: "The idea of a football team at UT Tyler is a big one for the school, Tidwell said, and 'I have no intention of bringing football to Tyler unless one condition is met ... we get a $50 million gift to bring football to Tyler.'" http://kilgorenewsherald.com/stories/ut-tyler-president-touts-growthpresses-need-to-tailor-education,112984

Just thought I would pass this along as an FYI and FWIW.

From the article...
"Sportswise, Tidwell spoke on UT Tyler's athletic accomplishments with a women's softball World Series win last year, third place this year and 16 championships – officials are contemplating moving up to Division 2 to find more competition."

38th in the NACDA Directors' Cup standings based primarily on softball (83 pts) and success in other minor sports (158.5 pts in m/w golf, 92 in tennis, 42 in men't t&f) of their total (409.5).   23rd last year, 16th the year before, 36th the year before that, primarily on the strength of these sports rather than fall/winter sports.

Pre season, that weird time between buying your tickets. booking your rooms and scoping out the best BBQ joints in the area. I've been keeping my eye on new players coming in, and you know the majority will not see game time in the varsity lineup. What I hope for them is their understanding that they are receiving a first class education and there are years to come before they hear their name blasted over the loud speaker and their face and number on the big screen. There could be a few standouts of course, but it is my hope they take this time to hunker down and get through the freshman year strong academically.
Alot of hopefuls out there coming to Belton this season, I believe the Cru faithful will wish them well, in a hand full of weeks the Cruthedral will be awake again, Flags flying. Crudogs sizzling and of course the purple ice cream... Pre season good wishes to the Crusaders... be healthy, stay busy and bring home the title for a second time.

For anyone interested, Teidrick Smith has been moved from the practice squad of his CFL team, the Ottawa Redblacks, to first string defensive end for their game tomorrow. The game will be on ESPN3 and starts at 6:30.

For the 2017 season there seems to be a position up for grabs.. QB... the Cru have alot of talent already for that slot, TJ Josey although as a receiver he is invaluable. We did see a snippet or two of Zane Boles, but he went to punter later in the season. So any thoughts from those closer to the program? Are they going to look inside the existing roster or bring in a new, minty fresh freshman and build him up?
