The UMHB defense was very impressive.  Their speed and strength were overwhelming.  The Trinity O line had a real hard time with them.  Hats off to the Trinity D.  They were outsized, but did a great job against the Cru.

Ron, I agree, the offense has got to pick it up.  It seems like I remember something about defense winning championships! :)  They only had one turnover.  Hamrick also changed field position several times with his punts.

Ron - it was 2001.  That was UMHB's first playoff game...

Roocru,
I'll try again.  Maybe I'll get the message in before it posts this time!  Congratulations on a fine win today.  It sounds like you really dominated today.  We survived to play another week, so I'm still in the brownie business.  Traveling to the northern tundra--at least north of Pittsburg qualifies as that for me!!

Here's a good article.  It covers the MHB-TU game, but is more about the spirit of D3.  Check it out:

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Can anyone say HOME GAME???? Wow I can't believe it! Also anyone callin mama to tell her you aren't comin home for thanksgiving? Thanks Cru for an awesome game at Trinity! Keep taking care of business.

mhb8904, I read that article in the paper this morning and it captured the true spirit.  Great read for everyone.

From the Killeen Daily Herald: "Trinity amassed just 200 yards of total offense on 73 plays (2.7 yards per play)."

To hold the #8 team in the nation to only 2.7 yards per play - and at their field... now that is what I call Dominating D!

Again from the Herald: "It wasn't even a matter of doing anything extra," [UMHB] cornerback Nick McPhaul said. "If the offense is struggling, we've got their back. It's just a matter of going out and doing our job, doing what we prepared for."

In years past, Trinity had been able to beat the UMHB defense deep.  Yesterday, the Cru secondary was right there time after time.  They broke on the ball and depflected several passes.  The great pass rush helps!

Bill McCabe:

Yes, that was a nice column, but I wish the San Antonio Express-News and other papers would devote more time and space to D3 athletics. Hometown Trinity, for example, seldom receives much coverage except at playoff time (or when a player runs afoul of the law).  :'(
