Well maybe not all of it. But according to your own website, it was "the largest gift in the history of UMHB" which is nothing to scoff at. But I digress.

I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, our lack of outrageous funding is and always will be to our advantage. It just made me laugh and seemed very fitting to hear complaints about visitor accommodations from you because I heard it for 4 years from your players. Nothing pleases me more than the thought of MHB fans and athletes being dissatisfied with our above average d3 facilities  ;)

Have a nice day & Go Cowboys!!

Kelly,

Your stadium, which is probably worth more than our campus, was given to you by a Baylor University alum. If that's not lucking into a competitive advantage, I'm not sure what is. We have to fund raise for months to get a new pair of practice pants so the fact that we can compete with MHB should be an embarrassment for you and speaks volumes to the quality of the program and coaching we have at HSU.
Hooyah, While there may be a lot of fundraising going on, lett's not act like the cupboard is bare at HSU. I'm an alumnus of both schools. lived in abilene for the last 12 years.  have many friends in faculty and administrative positions HSU suffers from falling enrollment numbers and from finances that are in many ways linked to the oil industry. HSU has BIG, well connected donors ( I know because i lived next door to one) but still has had to cut its orchestra program, offer scholarships to any high school grad willing to come, eliminate faculty positions... I loved my time @HSU and barring this game each year it's all go Cowboys for me, but let's not pretend having a great friend of the university is the only reason things are as they are. It has everything to do with administration, board, univ. goals.. I would also add Drayton McLane you s a long time friend of UMHB. when i started college in the late 80s he was hiring grads and donating for facilities. I look forward to being in Abilene Saturday and using my HSU ID to get in the game😎. If you're in town, hit me up. I'd love to meet you some place local for a beverage.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

above average? maybe the home teams facilities, but the locker room is even kiind of sad when you're going swimming in the summer. it is definitely better than huddling outside though.

I've dressed in many D3 visitor's locker rooms and, as sad as it may be, HSU's are well above average lol

For the last time, I did not complain. All I suggested  - in fact, I said "I wish" - is any school with limited visitor seating - which is true for most schools - is to make at least a portion of the guest side reserved seating - and to even charge more for those seats. If I'd known it was such an over-the-top, unreasonable, outrageous suggestion I would never have mentioned it.

I've long maintained the worst place possible to try to have a reasoned discussion is online, whatever the venue - Twitter being the absolute worst. I once again affirm my belief.

UMHB fans travel safely to and from the game. I'll see you there early.

It should be a barn-burner of a game.

Ralph,

Yes, I agree, HSU has more capacity for visitor seating than some places I have been.

just finished this weeks podcast and jaquan hemphill is interviewed by Pat. He said as long as they take care of their stuff HSU will come out on top. Love the confidence in the coaches ability to game plan, but he might be being a little dismissive of a fantastic defense. I don't think UMHB needs any bulletin board material, but i wouldn't offer it up if i was HSU.

It wouldn't be rivalry week if these boards didn't get at least a little hostile haha

After doing just a bit of research, there are plenty of HSU alums who could help foot the bill for some above average upgrades to the stadium. Do a quick Google search and you'll find them.

The fact is, the Hardin in both school's names is the same one, so we both came from humble beginnings.  Now, whether you have West Texas "black tea" or I35 grocery billionaires, the point is both schools have the connections. In fact, I'm aware of one HSU alum, former football player, who has a nice gig with a major sports team in Missouri .  I'm sure a little fund raising could rake up some desired funds.

And, to say that we should be embarrassed because y'all rival us even with our facilities is crazy. HSU has a long storied program, and to talk like that seemingly speaks to your own lack of trust in the HSU product.

I don't doubt that HSU is formidable and capable of beating UMHB. The fact is, I want HSU to be difficult.  I want them to beat everyone except UMHB.  I think Kelly would agree.

Anyways, I'll be there Saturday, and I expect a tough game. Looking forward to it.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

+k, 2001. I would like the ASC to be the toughest conference in D3. I am passionate about D3 athletics and respect all the coaches and STUDENT-athletes who invest time and expend effort to play the sports they love. I'm also grateful to Pat, Keith and company who make this venue available to all who appreciate the wonderful world of D3 sports. Thanks, gentlemen! That's all I have to say about that.

Well being a DFW dweller and not always able to travel to central Texas for UMHB home games much less away games, I do appreciate the changes HSU has made in their broadcast for those in far and away places. The HSU broadcast is now first class rivaling most of the top 5 tiered teams.
Watching the UMHB/HSU playoff games some years back the images were blurry and darn near unidentifiable especially in Red Zone areas of play, but now with the new technology upgrades the images are crystal clear and first class so I would give HSU  two thumbs up in this upgrade, with new field and technology layouts it seems they are willing to address changes.
Perhaps they have not just approached concerning the seating outlay or addressed with passion.
As said most other programs really don't have a great following which means the concern does not meet action to be taken, but perhaps the two sides UMHB/HSU can make arrangements in the future meetings to address this, it just takes a meeting of the minds, HSU would probably be willing to do some sort of arrangement if it is an organized proposal and would mean additional dollars in the coffers. It just takes the right people coming together of course I don't know who that would be but I am sure someone out there with a title after their name would be willing to spearhead this...perhaps?

It's a great rivalry, the Hardin sinners and the University of Money Hungry Baptists (i'm told by my senior daughter at UMHB and her cousin at HSU that is what they are calling each other) and one that all eyes in ASC will be paying attention to, not to mention many many outside the ASC.

A funny aside, my daughter came out to her car to find that her cousin had put a HSU licence plate holder on her car overnight. If family will drive that far to pull off a prank, then it is indeed a big rivalry. Christmas will be fun this year since the kid has ordered a set of UMHB graduation note cards for her cousin to announce his grad for a Christmas gift.
