UMHB offense looked much better today. CR3 played about 2 1/2 quarters at QB and looked sharp. He was 10-10 passing for 110 yards, no INTs, and gained 53 yards on 10 carries.

did Kyle look better running. i saw that he had some positive runs, but also saw 4 sacks given at least one of those was him.

To me KJ seemed willing to carry, but it was not as (what I perceive) as confident in comparison with other QBs we have and have had. CRIII and Muze looked solid in the run paradigm.

Jones looked good on designed runs and when he had time he threw really well. However, his decision making on the read option was a bit suspect and when no one was open and/or he got pressured,  he looked like he was panicked.

C'mon CRU fans.

Let's get serious!

Look who you were playing. My over/under on this game was whether McMurry would score an offensive point  and whether they could hold UMHB to 60!

In the fourth quarter, the McMurry announcers were talking about UMHB 3rd stringers getting good reps and holding their own.

No malice intended, but you are looking at a 2017 McMurry squad that was overmatched.

zipmac22

By all of the muffs it seemed that we were looking beyond McMurry when receiving punts and kicks. I hope that we can have this fixed by next Saturday.

Ralph,

I'm quite sure everyone is fully aware of the context of the game. I can only speak for myself. I'm hoping to see improvement in the QB play each week and for one player to become the clear leader for the offense. I - and certainly the coaches - can see what I'm/their looking for regardless of the opponent. I also want to see the offense execute regardless of the opponent.

I think the fact McMurry, in your words, was "overmatched" is , for me, even more revealing as to QB play. So, the issue for me was not the score or production, but decision making and some intangibles.

When I said the offense "looked much better" that's primarily what I meant. To quote John Wooden, "Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming."

In today's paper, Coach Fred notched Carl Robinson III the starter from here on out. This is the decision I think many of us have been looking for. I am excited to see what he will do over the next two weeks.

Ralph, I think this is the area we have been reluctant to latch onto. Yes, the defense has been stellar, more touchdowns scored than touchdowns allowed, but offensively, although we have the talent to beat teams, we haven't had one that I would say could carry us to a win.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

CR3! It will be exciting with him at QB. He will make some freshman mistakes, but I think the offense will be much more productive with him at the helm.

I heard someone say that CR3 reminds him of LiDarral Baily. I can see that. I think Robinson is a little bigger than Baily.

I'm really looking forward to the road trip to Louisiana!

I agree with this assessment. He is a bit bigger also. Now, can he "LiDarral"?

Thanks for the comments on the McM-UMHB game.

In all fairness to Coach Hinson, he has had to bring the program from "lower than low".  He has brought the program  through the "unwinding" of D-2 to go through the 4-year "re-classification". He now should be judged for how he is virtually building a program from scratch.

For me, as a fan, going from the joys of being competitive with UMHB in 2010 and 2011 to "back to the doldrums" in the latter half of this decade has been frustrating. As of 2017, it seems that we are solidly in the bottom third, with "Provisional" Belhaven, HPU, and LaCollege who is rebuilding from its glory days earlier in the decade (2012 when they got a Pool C bid).

I knew this was going to be an ugly process when the decision was made and i got to talk to the players that were regulars at the restaurant. They felt betrayed. even though the coach is gone, that's a rep that gets pinned on the school and has to be over come. it has to be frustrating for alumni, especially after having just built back up from a few down seasons. here's hoping the coach can hold on long enough to regain the trust and rebuild.

Very good to hear that the QB decision is settled. Not to be down on the ability of KJ or Tevin Muze, it's just solid to have a constant in that spot now. The D has been the Beast so far this season now let's unleash the O to complete the season and look to Bracket play.
