I think that UST (and SJU) offer an educational experience comparable to the finest liberal arts colleges in the US. About a decade ago, the MIAC was part of the D4 movement along with the NCAC, the UAA, the NESCAC, etc. I am sure that you have a long legacy of having D1 transfers who want a "quality diploma" and more playing time than they got at a D1 or D2.

Maybe that kind of thinking explains why UST has never won the big one.
Always respect your opponent. Works for Mount Union!

You're the worst kind of haughty. Seriously, guy.

I'm sure Mt. Union's success has nothing to do with the fact that they have superior athletes and every single position 99% of the time. It's all about the respect. Mt. Union players probably toss and turn all night thinking about their upcoming game against Muskingum.

Everyone who follows D3 football knew MUC would sleep walk through Frostburg State. Even you. What you're doing is some sort of patronizing form of faux respect, to build some sort of coach-speak equity that is not required of you, because you're not a coach, you're a fan. "Derr, Frostburg sure looks tough. Man, I don't know if we can beat these guys." What is the purpose of building this insurance? Whether you "respect" Frostburg State or not has nothing to do with what Mount does on the field. Coincidentally, me making a JOKE about the competitive level of east region football, also, has nothing to do with the prospective outcome of the game. Mount Union hung 70 Frostburg State, maybe you were surprised by that, but I wasn't.

Outside of John Carroll, this weekend will be Mt. Union's first competitive game in nearly a year.

As an aside, UST held UMHB to -16 yards rushing and had 15 TFLs. So, I'm fairly confident UST had plenty of respect for UMHB, because those numbers don't manifest themselves out of sheer luck in play-calling. The Cru made key plays when it counted, but I think everyone who watched that game knew UST prepared well, the Cru were just better. It's about the Larry's and Joe's more than the Xs an Os, MUC57. Always has been.
You know very little about Mount and the history of this team.  Sure they have had some superior athletes but in the early 90's when they started this run that was not the case (particularly in 1993).  Also there have been years when they have been a little better and blew out their opponents through superior preparation and coaching (ST Johns in 93 rings a bell as does a couple of other games later in the 90's.

In Mount's case it is for sure The "Larry" vs. the "Joes"

"Some" superior athletes? Jim Ballard, Pierre Garcon, Chris Kern, Kyle Miller, Jasper Collins, Cecil Shorts III. I think in 2012 Mount Union sent more than 10 guys to pro camps. UST sent one. You can game plan all day against that kind of talent, have the best game plan imaginable, and you're still going to get housed.

There's a reason SJU beat MUC in 2003 going away, they had Blake Elliot (on one leg) and (Cam McCambridge and Jeremy Hood) and you didn't. Elliot was a legit NFL prospect making big plays. It wasn't because Gags was some sort of mad scientist. He only had like 6 plays.

When all things are equal, sure, game plan matters the most. But, Mount Union is a school in the middle of one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country and they know how to recruit. LK or VK could run nothing but fullback dives and punt on 3rd down all game long and beat 95% of D3 by 3 TDs.

It's fertile but super saturated... sometimes I wonder if Mount would be better off in a different part of the country. There are two D2 schools in the same county as Mount Union, FCS Youngstown State is an hour away, Kent State and Akron U are about 40 minutes away and BW and JCU are around an hour away as well.

Which is why you'll actually see more than a couple guys from Michigan and Florida on Mount's roster.

So the players you listed were at Mount over 20 a year period.  Mount has never had 10 guys in pro camp that is ridiculous and you are just making stuff up to support your position.  They have had a share of really good players.  That is what happens when you are in the top 4 of the country for a quarter of a decade.

Going to rookie mini camp and signing a deal are two different things. SMH. Anyway, I believe it was this website  that reported double digits had tryouts, but 5 actually signed with teams from the 2012 team according this article: https://www.ohio.com/akron/sports/larry-kehres-effect-mount-union-players-who-played-in-nfl

If you don't think that's a little unprecedented for D3 then I guess I don't know what to say anymore.

You're arguing that you're less talented than I'm implying. Which is odd, but I didn't arbitrarily pick a number.

How many of UMUs players have made a contract position to a team? Attending a camp is dime a dozen in terms of the size of the talent pool.  UMHB has had some invited to mini camps that go beyond a simple mini camps appearance, Tiedrick Smith signed a free agent deal with the Rams, but is right now up in the CFL playing for the Ottawa Redblacks. Jarel Freeman has made strides to the Chicago Bears. Point is, an appearance to a mini camp means next to nothing. Blake Jackson after last seasons end attended a mini camp but nothing came of it. So far. as I can see Joe Callahan is still #2 at Greenbay, a fantastic D3 QB for Wesley, look how long it takes to just get there. (and by an Rogers injury no doubt) So for D3 players to break out and make it is very very rare territory. Simply listing camp attendees does not equate to anything superior.
I'll tell you what I did learn, freaking Saint Thomas is one superior program, great spirit, great discipline and poise in adversity, I've become a fan now...of course my UMHB is closest to the heart But I am a St. Believer now. Caruso has something going there.

Listing camp attendees isn't such a big deal once you have several guys hit the NFL. It's a matter of scale I guess. We're still working towards that. This year's defense was certainly impressive, but there really wasn't one guy that stood out or would likely get any kind of sniff at an NFL mini camp, much less a roster.

In tonight's final QB Club of the season for St Thomas, Coach Caruso was EXTREMELY complimentary of the UMHB program, facilities, and fans. Many of our fans who made the trip also had tremendous things to say about everyone down in Texas too.

No time for BBQ, unfortunately. We stayed in Dallas and hauled down to Waco early Saturday morning so we could hit the Silos at Magnolia.  Scored big points with my wife and daughter ha.

But what your really do is knock out the walls to open the kitchen, dining room and living room to make one big open area.  You find some shiplap on one of the walls and then get an iron sign with a cute saying in it.

Bingo, 3500 square feet and 3/4 acres of land for $250K  for the family of 5 plus pets.

The next show will be Property Brothers who will find 1100 square feet in an urban area for Double Income/ No Kids but 3 cats. Re-do all for $800K.

The UMHB fans I know were mighty impressed what they witnessed of the Tommie program/fans. And like any respectable Texan, we're going to tip our hat and say so. It was nice of the coach to take notice and call attention to it.

We know we're blessed beyond measure at UMHB. No one associated with the school/program takes our blessings for granted. We believe these blessings require a meticulous stewardship. It starts with the president, who models a servant spirit, and trickles down to the janitorial staff. As a result, everyone strives to treat our guests as well as we treat our season ticket holders and treasured donors. The UMHB staff seeks to serve our fans and opponents - including our rivals - with dignity and respect. After all, isn't that the essence of D3 sports?

I'm not saying we don't have "those fans" who are ignorant and boorish. We do. However, when we encounter them we do try to address them as diplomatically as possible. If that doesn't work, then said fans are shown the exit. Thankfully this does not happen often, but it has happened.

So, thanks to the Tommie fans who were able to make the trip to Texas. Cru fans know all too well how bad it hurts to lose one like the Tommies did Saturday. I've no doubt your coaching staff will use the experience to make UST that much stronger going forward. I'm quite sure UMHB and the Tommies will meet again. If it is anything like the first meeting, it will be a good one!

That goes without saying. Went to Franklin's when I was in Austin once. Stood in line for 2 hours with a bunch of buddies and cooler of beer. Best BBQ I've ever had, hands down (and I've been everywhere in the south). Damn fine way to spend a Thursday morning IMO.

;D ;D My wife has got me watching that show too. She wanted to move to Waco so we could live like kings. I told her, "If David Koresh can do it, why not us?" Then we watched a documentary on the Branch Davidian Compound and she changed her mind.

I was going to suggest that if we remodel the 'Catdome we do all the finish work in shiplap.  Then we can slap some big rusty letters on the wall that spells out L-I-N-F-I-E-L-D and put 500 pillows on a set of bleachers.
