Overall I really liked what I saw from HSU tonight, outside of the penalties. I think everyone knew the running game would be fine, but Reed and the WR core were able to make enough big plays to keep Trinity from putting 10 in the box. Defense will get better I hope, it seemed that there was a huge mental problem and not really a talent problem on that side of the ball.

Hats off to Trinity, they should compete for their conference. Just a gritty, well-coached football team.

UMHB looked like world beaters again, of course. I'm excited to watch them take on TLU in a couple of weeks, the Bulldogs had a great gutsy win against a good Hendrix team tonight. HSU needs to iron out all of those defensive problems before October 6th gets here, we'll need everyone at their very best as usual.

HSU's DLine looked very good against a physical Trinity offense. How many return from last year? Our OLine looked pretty good, but they were just bigger and better today. They'll have to get better by October for us to be dominant against the HSU Front.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I said a while back that I'd like to see Mount  and UMHB meet in the Stagg Bowl. 91-7?
Never mind. Maybe we can play (insert name of stinky team here).

TLU responded well vs. Hendrix after losing their starting QB.  Hope he is OK.  TLU looks physically strong and it appears the players worked hard in the off-season.  Hendrix is a pretty good team and was one of the top offenses in the country last year. Looking forward to next week.  I predict UMHB and TLU will be undefeated and a "must watch" game when they meet in a couple of weeks.

The 3 year cycle favors that possibility

Trinity looks like they will be very strong in the SAA.

Trinity catches Berry at home the last week of the season. I expect them to be 8-1, and regionally ranked.  This helps the ASC get a Pool C bid if HSU loses to UMHB (as the form chart suggests this early in the season).

For game #1, that was a good HSU performance. I agree about the "sloppy/careless" penalties.

That's a tricky answer, we have 3 guys back from last year but they didn't start and were shuffled in. We have about 4 new faces from transfers and moving guys up from the developmental squad. The dude on that anchors our line is going to be sophomore Kyle Zavala. He missed last year after transferring to Texas State didn't like it and came back to HSU. He's a flat out stud.

Thanks for the info. I'm sure both teams will work hard to fix the things that need to be fixed and will look to move forward with improvement next week moving towards that October clash. Both teams start the ASC slate next week. I think SRSU will be a bit tougher than LC, but we'll see.

Curious for anyone watching the TLU game last weekend - was the Hendrix starting QB injured, or just pulled at half for struggling against the TLU D?   His replacement was, frankly, awful; not sure why you stick with a guy who went 6-16 for 20 yards if you have any choice.

OK UMHB y'all didnt hit triple digits so I'm counting that game as an L.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

But for real, 91-7 is crazy. I'm excited for conference play though bc I'm not sure any of these initial games have shown exactly what each team really is.

I watched TLU's online telecast but not closely.  It was unclear to me why Hendrix pulled their QB.  The video/radiocast did mention the change at QB but did not say why.  My guess is there was an injury but the timing on the change seemed odd and I had not noticed Hendrix's starting QB exhibiting any signs of injury in the first half.

TLU lost their starting (and senior) QB on a frightening injury on the game's first possession.  I hope he recovers fully and can return to play later this season.  The backup QB played well and was poised despite it being his first collegiate appearance.  The second and third quarter was played in a heavy downpour, which made the passing game and special teams difficult.  TLU turned the ball over in their own territory on three (or was it four?) straight possessions during the third quarter but somehow held Hendrix to only one touchdown during that stretch.  Both teams relied heavily on the run game in the second half.  TLU did a substantially better job of stopping the run. Not the prettiest win but a win.

Update:  Here is a link to the Conway, Arkansas newspaper that says Hendrix's starting QB left the game with an injury.

Ouch. I hope it was nothing serious and that he can rebound soon.

I guess UMHB has some players that are banged up. Defensively, a couple guys pegged to start on the DLine are hurt. Hopefully they can come back in a couple weeks.

Hate for any kid to miss a game due to injury, but y'all are so deep at every position, will it even be noticed? Plus I don't see SR slowing down that offense much. Too much speed! I look for K.J. to take another one to the house this week on special teams also.
Hard work may not always result in success, but it will never result in regret!!
