Great joke in there...

Q. What is the breakpoint on classification between 4A and 5A?

A. Highland Park HS's enrollment plus 2 students! ;D :D :)

dballa

Well Ralph look at Brownwood, the cutoff between being 3A and 4A is 975 and Brownwood is reporting 977.5 enrollment.  What I don't understand is how you get a half kid in there? Is that a discrimination thing against someone ;)

:D :D :D :D ;) ::) :-\

It's worse than you think...

It's a larger number of "0.5-kids" who have been designated as having 0.5 value due to their TAKS test scores.  It has worked to Brownwood's adavnatge, and this group usually includes a key LB, DB, WR and D-Lineman and the bass player in the band, should that player need to come out after the halftime of the Stephenville game.   8)

RT -- The ARN did not have the nerve to print the worst/best joke: The break between 3A and 4A? Wylie +1.
That one just strikes way too close to home. Literally.

dballa -- That half kid was the victim of a tragic slicer accident at Underwood's.  ;D
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

dballa,

While I appreciate all the jokes pertaining to .5 kids, the real reason has to do with several factors which include;

1) a formula used to figure equivalent numbers for those schools who are 10-12 grades or 11-12 grades as opposed to 9-12 grades

2) a formula used to calculate the effect of Katrina relocations

3) there may be another instance I can't think of right away.

I just want Thursday to hurry up and get here !!!  ;D

And the difference in 2A and 3A is Celina + 0.5.  This may be the year they finally get kicked up into 3A to stay.

Gray Fox

It sounds from these discussions about they accuracy of predicting school enrollment (and slicing and dicing the numbers)  that we have more than a few schools with faculties capable of making them math or accounting magnet schools. ;)

What I wish the schools would have to do is use the numbers they submit for federal/state funding, since Texas schools maximize their funding by reporting high numbers there.  Actually, it would be very interesting to see someone do a comparison in the numbers reported for funding and the numbers reported to UIL ...

That is a good one I wish I had the time to do that.

From the UIL Constitution  http://www.uil.utexas.edu/policy/constitution/index.html

Section 351: CONFERENCE BASED ON ENROLLMENT
(a) ENROLLMENT. Participant schools and charter schools shall be assigned to a conference on the basis of enrollment on a date from the previous October. Schools will include all resident students including those in alternative settings.

The formulas used to determine enrollment shall be:(1) Schools with four high school grades (9-12), and three year high schools (grades 10-12) which will receive incoming tenth graders from specific, identifiable feeder schools:
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 = Enrollment(2) Schools with only grades 10, 11, 12 when it cannot easily be determined which schools the ninth graders will attend as tenth graders: Grades 10, 11, 12 x 1.33 = Enrollment

If no prior enrollment figures are available for the specified date, assignment of a participant school or charter school just admitted to competition shall be on the basis of the projected enrollment. A magnet or special school for academically gifted students shall be assigned to a conference upon the basis of the enrollment of the school in its member school district having the largest enrollment.
Schools that have established attendance zones do not fit the definition of a magnet school even if they operate a magnet program with optional attendance zones. Schools may subtract students with multiple disabilities (as defined by Texas Education Agency standards) from the total enrollment for that school upon proper certification.

The date selected is the same date in October that all PEIMS data is required by the state and the UIL cross checks the actual PEIMS information with the info turned in on its reclassification request.

For an explanation of how Texas uses the PEIMS data see this website. http://www.tea.state.tx.us/peims/data.html

Actually the data is the same as used for all state reports.  Basically, it is the same data for both.

Also figured into the ADA on snapshot date are other factors such as homeless poplation and students with several disabilities...so the figure is not arrived at simply by the number of students enrolled at that time...there are many complex factors used in coding students properly for that PEIMS snapshot date...BUT I agree, we cant wait until 9 am Thursday---we are hoping for a move down to 1A with our enrollment at 198....

cruprez:

Who is "we" (if you don't mind saying)?  I have a bit of experience with 1A football as our guys were runnersup in 2003 and won the championship in 2004.  The general prediction of the top end of Class 1A seems to be 199.

If you haven't already found it, see the premier message board for Texas Class 1A Football (and other sports) at this address:
http://p083.ezboard.com/f1atexasfootball5178frm17

If y'all go to 1A, then welcome to "real" Texas football ... just like D-III is "real" college football, right? ;D
Trinity Tiger Football ... where champions compete on and off the field.

No, I dont mind saying...Jarrell, located 40 miles north of Austin on I-35...thanks for the links, will check it out...hope to see you down the road next football season....

also for those who are interested---UMHB's first game is on
Sept. 9th in Newport News Virginia against Christopher Newport

Wow a lot of players signing today.  I sure wish I knew what the Cowboys were getting.

split six

There is some good news coming that way to Abilene.  Hopefully sooner than later a 1st Team AllState Punter and wide reciever and a all state linebacker will commit to the Cowboys.  The Linebacker will be a great assest for Abbate and his stellar defense that he has composed all ready.  This linebacker is in my opinion the best linebacker in 3a, but his size limits him.  He reminds me of a young Jared Sanderson.  That have alot to look forward to from these two great football players.
