I hate this time of year, the time between the Bowl games and the draft is too long.

It would be nice to know which athletes plan to go to the DIII schools.  I think last year on our local news (Wichita Falls) they announced several players that decided to go to DIII schools and they announced them on TV.  It is just so dang dead around here on this board.  I know it will pick up but wow just waiting sucks!

I saw the progress made on the FieldTurf and new 8-lane track at McMurry yesterday.  That is a really nice change!

The Track will be ready for the Abilene Invitational for the high school students on April 6th and then the Indian Relays on April 8th.

That will be very nice for McM.  I know I have a daughter that will be looking at McM as a possible place to go to school and run track.

Z, Staci Jackson ran in the 400 Meters at the Indoor Championships at St Olaf's, MN. She did not make to Finals.

Staci had run at SMU in 2004-05, but did not like it.  McM's head track Coach Barbara Crousen is a wonderful coach and very personable.  I ran track in highschool and one semester of Cross Country at McMurry.

I would have enjoyed running for Coach Crousen.

What does your daughter run?

She runs cross country also but is a middle of the pack runner (Best time has been 14 something). I say middle of the pack (at regionals this year I think she was 60th out of about 120 girls.  She is only a sophomore but I think she has great potential.  In track she runs the 3200.  Qualified for regionals last year as a freshman but didn't do real well there.  She has taken up the 300 hurdles and I think that she likes this race a lot better.  Ran a 54 yesterday at Sweetwater (Ratlesnake Relays) but her form  needs work as well as she is not quite sure how to run the race yet.  Hoping that she can run a 50 by district.  Then over the next two years she will need to get down to 46 or so.  She also ran the 800 yesterday and ran a 2:55 which she can improve on.  First time to run the 800 yesterday and only her second time to run the hurdles.

I sent her to the ACU track camp last year and will send her to another camp this summer (Not sure where yet).  She is also a Cheerleader in High school and wants to cheer in college too.  Anyway, she is a blessing and I'm sure going to enjoy taking her around to look at all the different colleges this summer. She wants to major in Criminal Justice.

Zmotion,  It sounds, from your comments, your daughter is joy to be around.  I have two daughters and they are quite different from each other.  Each a pleasure in her own right.

Keep working with her!!  She has a lot of interests and will want to test and taste most things.  You and your wife have a fun and interesting few years ahead.  It will be time well spent.  You won't do any thing more rewarding!!!

I am itching for some football though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know this time of year drags out.  I wish I knew what each of the teams had coming in (New players and all).  But I guess we will not know that until the fall.

Of interesting note, I'm doing a five year research on several Lone Star Conference Schools and their recruing class of 2004.   This will be the third year and I'm excited to see how many players are still left on these teams from the orginal signing class.

Oof, play some D-III schools, huh? Someone should get the new coach a copy of the championships handbook.

Zmotion thanks for the HSU schedule info.  Looks like HSU has a couple of tough non-conference games.

Pat are you being a little critical of the HPU Coach and schedule?  Coach Redwine came from a NAIA school and I'm sure that is where most of his contacts are.  I understand the strength of schedule thing for the playoffs and Pool C bid if you are not the conference champs.  HPU will be fine.  Coach Redwine is in the process of building a conference championship program.  I'm not saying they will win the ASC next year.  I am saying that HPU shouldn't be taken lightly.

HPU showed a lot this past year.  TLU was also tough then throw in HSU and UMHB wow.  Then you have McM doing much better and ETBU.  I think the conference is getting tougher.

One thing I wonder about is how much the JV helps these players prepare for varsity.  I know at HSU they play everyone.  That is good and bad.  The good is that everyone gets a shot.  The bad is that the better players get about 16 snaps and that is it.  Very limiting.  I know that these players learn the plays (responsibilities) real well by getting actual game experience.

I'm curious about the other JV programs???  I know that HPU had a JV this past year.  How many games did they get in?  What schools in our conference do not have a JV program?
