Hammack can't fix such a bad offensive scheme.  I have been a fan forever but they rely on defense way to much . They try to out athlete everyone and their offense is so plain and vanilla it hurts to watch. If zone read up the middle with offinsive lineman blocking a zone scheme is anyone's idea of fun to watch then they for you.

I'm not there to see this scrimmage; but, this scheme has had them go 44 and 1 over the last 3 years. As the folks in front of our season tickets say, there goes Miller up the middle again... Iirc, they tied this team 17 all last year.

44 and 1 is amazing. And very hard to question.  Nonetheless, there are those out there who believe that the conservative scheme actually keeps UMHB closer to the pack than necessary given the defenses they have annually and the overall athleticism on their team. I'm not saying that thinking is right, but it is definitely out there.

WR Jenkins ~4 catches (slants) for 70+ yards; WR Jonel Reed ~2 for 50+. Jonel could've had 5 for 100+ but errant throws. Running game mostly ineffective, Borregas stuffed the box. Could've passed at will but threw sparingly. First D was stout but lost contain. Backups outmatched. ~ Hat tip Ron Jenkins

Agree with bleedpurple and every thinking person. 44 and 1 is most impressive.
There were times when, during a regular game, Larry Kehres would call a seemingly "weird" play. We in the stands would then remark, "What the hell was he thinking?". Then, of course, it was back to reality. We remembered all the national championships and all the other records he set, so it was "shut up. He knows what he's doing!"
UMHB has nothing to worry about. As was stated earlier, scrimmages are "practices". Things are done that, probably, wouldn't be done in a game. The Cru certainly deserves to be number 1 in the nation. I'm hoping this year Mount Union can regain the top spot.
Getting to the top of Dlll should be easy for a program like The Purple Raiders. However; it seems there is this team in Belton, Texas that has their own ideas on being number 1. And they're damn good. I'll keep fingers crossed and hope for the best.
In the interim, Go Cru and Go Raiders!  ::)  8-)  ;D
I'm old! I get mixed up and I forget things! Go Everybody! 🏈 ☠

Also saw someone on Twitter (Jack Phelps) saying Avila was 4 of 5 including a 53 yarder to win the game.

Keep in mind, these are just scrimmages.  I'm sure UMHB is throwing just about everyone they have into these to get a good look at what they have.  Will be some kinks to iron out.  Considering that over 100 guys are new to the team, prob positions, new terminology---------------it takes more than a week to get things ironed out.  You'll see them progress throughout the season.  When they find guys like a Jefferson Fritz that comes in his freshmen year and starts-----------that really helps out a lot.

They also split up into 2 teams A and B-------------not the same meaning as in middle school where A has the better players and B has everyone else.  It was a pretty even split.  They will assess what they have after and start to put things together.

It's hard for me to believe that Coach Lee has a bad Offensive scheme when last year they had the #1 scoring offense in the Nation and scored the most points UMHB has ever scored in a Natty game.

Just hope everyone came out of the scrimmage healthy. So happy for Avila, +50 FG for a game winner is great for confidence.

I was just going to add that, the team does split up on days from what I understood

I say this with all due respect to UMHB, but I hope something besides UMHB going undefeated happens!  This is a boring read. ::)

Of course you expect it to be rough. You also expect your lineman to win their battles and for the longest run by a back to be more than 4 yards. Noone said open the playbook or anything of that nature but now is the time to try some plays that are not run up the middle on every down. There is no Markeith to keep getting pounded anymore.

You do realize we are playing 18-21 or possibly 22 year olds and they quite possibly are playing 24 and 25 year olds. Size and muscular maturation do play a part.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

The 2, 4, 6 lineup tonight for UMHB looked good. The QB that came in tonight was throwing lasers and dimes to WRs. He is going to be something. His running was great, too. And a little guy from Beaumont was running well behind that OL. UMHB ended up losing 13-10, but the fact that they played two scrimmages and came out without any foreseeable injuries is a plus for me.

Well, it seems HSU has some new horses in the stable. Brennen Wooten, transfer from Louisiana Monroe by way of TJC and TCU, has come back to West Texas to probably take the reigns for the Cowboys. Hemphill is back and healthy. Their JV gave our JV fits last year, so we'll see. Gonna be another fun one in Belton. I just wish it was a 6:00 game instead of being at 1:00.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

Agreed. Lol, rooting for somebody to give them some competition. Last year was a *yawn* for conference play.

How's that LINFIELD transfer doing?
