...  Ironically, the move of Austin from the ASC to the SCAC this year will likely serve to increase average ASC attendance and decrease average SCAC attendance.  ...

That phenonmenon of dramatic shifts in the nature of conferences is actually quite common.

When the University of Arkansas left the old Southwest Conference (SWC) and moved to the Southeastern Conference (SEC), that move raised the average of SAT/ACT scores of incoming freshman classes at member institutions of both conferences. ;)

The Austin College attendance is listed at 2250 for 6 games or 375 per game.  If we subtract the AC attendance for 6 games from the ASC total, then we get 44 games for 119,228 fans or 2709 fans per game.  That raises the ASC average game attendance past the OAC and the ODAC into 2nd place. :)

Better Burgers in the Concession Stands will boost attendance greatly. :o

Yeesh, that sounds awful (not to mention packing >> 1000 calories).  Sorry, GF.

Linfield Coach Jay Losey is reported to be going to Oregon State.

CatDomeNation is quaking.

Here is an unconfirmed press report.

As a HSU fan, I'd like to encourage Coach Locey to make that move.

I just want him to wait another three weeks or so before he officially pulls the trigger.

Thanks to Warren Thompson for sending me this "heads-up" on the negotiations to find a new campus for Concordia.

Concordia-Austin's new campus?

The article requires registration into the newspaper's database.

And why does the most liberal major Texas Daily newspaper require all of that personal information just to look at one article?  What about my privacy?

What assurances do I have that that information will not be used against me by the big liberal media cabal?  Who knows what cookies they have surreptiously placed on my browser?  Maybe I need to get an Ann Coulter cookie for an antidote!

No, I don't think that that is a good idea either.  Ann Coulter vs. Molly Ivins on my hard drive?  Major computer crash!  Just Molly Ivins' pulchritude deficiency is enough to deter that thought.  :D :D :D

That's right, Ralph. Keep it up and I'll send you a gift subscription to The Texas Observer. And I'll make certain that you read it religiously. ;)

CUA's downtown campus value is $85M.  The property in Northwest Austin (off FM2222 and RM620 just north of the Bee Caves Rd area) was bought in 2005 for $25M and has 189 acres of developable land plus 6 buildings and a 250 acre wilderness preserve.

This is the old Schlumberger Ltd. business site.  Click on the photos on the left side.  The campus would be one of the most beautiful in D3, but most Texans already acknowledge the beauty of the hill country.

The campus has a cafeteria.  My guess is that CUA would need to build dorms/apts., athletic facilities and probably a science building.  Whether they would need a library is interesting.

Do you leap ahead to have a totally "virtual library" and a storage area for book collections?

Yeah, Warren, when the Austin paper was asking my preferences on  sections in their newspaper, I noticed that one of the sections that they omitted by "Religion".

I don't know about the Texas Observer but some of those ads in the Dallas Observer are pretty weird.  :D

Ralph, many years ago, Molly Ivins was the editor of The Texas Observer. BTW I also hate it when a newspaper requires registration; I've registered with the Austin and San Antonio outlets only because they keep me current with two locales wherein I spent considerable time (some of the best of times ... and some of the worst).

I appreciate your calling my attention to that article, because I would not have seen it.

Thanks!

My comment concerned the hypocorisy of the AA-S editorial page on its postions on databases, when they use the same tools as well to identify persons of interest, those who will buy products from its advertisers.

Indeed we do, though I'm not overly familiar with that part of Austin west. I hope the move pans out.

At the same time, I'll shed a tear or two for Kilian Hall, the oldest building on the current campus. I lived in it for four years of high school and two years of college. No air conditioning, no screens on the windows in the 1940s and 50s -- we were tougher back then. (Kilian is named for one of the Wendish Lutheran "saints" who fled Europe for the wilds of Texas back in the 19th-century. And it's strange that a Slavic people should have so many folks named after a relatively obscure medieval Irish monk, ain't it? *)

* As far as I know, St. Kilian has no connection with the beer of the same name.  ;)

And there was less humidity due to no air conditioning, no swimming pools, and fewer people in Austin.  (Austin was a one public high school town until 1953.)  You could stay cold by sleeping under a "swamp" (evaporative) cooler.

Has anyone read the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Mag yet?  Last year they had a good write up on all the teams in the ASC.

My Wal Mart doesn't have the book in yet.

Can't wait to see...

DCTF predictions have the top five in the ASC as:

1.  HSU
2.  UMHB
3.  HPU
4.  ETBU
5.  TLU

Bought mine at the grocery store last week.  Feature interview was with Jimmie Keeling and Jordan Neal.  Can't remember the rest of the conference predictions off the top of my head.

There's also a nice "what are they up to now" on Jerrold Jones, a 2005 grad and RB at Trinity.  He's showcasing some of his artwork, and is very talented.
