HSU fans:

The Linfield coaching vacancy has evidently been filled.  It'll be even more interesting to see this game with a new head coach on the Wildcats' side of the stadium.

I have an eligibility question that someone may know the answer to:

Does the student's GPA go by overall from all colleges or only from the particular institution that they attend?  For example if the student has a 1.8 at his college but does summer school at lets say a junior college and it raises it up to a 2.0 is he eligible?  Please don't ask why I'm asking.  Just the facts please.

From the way I understand it if a student athlete takes class at a JUCO during the summer, the transcripts, from the JUCO, must be sent to the College/University that the student/athlete attends prior to a particular cut-off date, normally sometime before the first day of fall classes.  The grades (Classes) if accepted by the College/University will be figured into the Student athletes GPA.  If the GPA is raised by the accepted grades (Classes) the student/athlete will keep their eligibilty.

The last line of the previous post should read "If the GPA is raised by the accepted grades (Classes) to a level that meeets eligibility requirements the student/athlete will keep their eligibility."

Good luck with this.

And yes, they were easier to care for when they were in diapers.  The poop that they messed us up with back then wasn't as bad! ;)

Jack Johnson, a former player and recent GA for UMHB has been hired to coach full time as the defensive line coach at Bridgewater.  See link above for quotes from Bridgewater and Coach Fred about this fine young man.  Best of luck to you Jack and maybe we will get a chance to see you next year.

As a side note I will be off the board for two weeks as my wife and I are leaving for a much anticipated vacation to Costa Rica on Friday, June 23rd.  I have promised her that she will get my undivided attention (except for while I am billfishing in the Pacific).  ;D  I must also recharge those batteries for one more year of D3 and Texas HS football.
Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

THAT sounds like an awesome trip, roocru.  Have fun, but don't drink the water!   ;)

Did anybody see Lindys College Football Mag. Josh Kubiak and Hunter Hambrick were both named to the preseason All American team. Congrats to these two fine football players.

The campus would be one of the most beautiful in D3, but most Texans already acknowledge the beauty of the hill country.
...
At the same time, I'll shed a tear or two for Kilian Hall, the oldest building on the current campus. I lived in it for four years of high school and two years of college. No air conditioning, no screens on the windows in the 1940s and 50s -- we were tougher back then.
-----------------------------

And there was less humidity due to no air conditioning, no swimming pools, and fewer people in Austin.  (Austin was a one public high school town until 1953.)  You could stay cold by sleeping under a "swamp" (evaporative) cooler.
Ralph, there also weren't any dinosaurs but honestly, are you serous about the humidity?  Mabey you should read the book Trashing the Planet by Dixie Lee Ray.
I may not have much to say, but I'll say it anyway.

Past Prime, from my recollection of the late 1950's, the humidity seemed to worsen about IH-35 and eastward.  There were very few lakes in Texas.  In 1952 there were only 320 lakes in Texas greater than 200 acre feet capacity (one acre wide by one foot deep), of which only 8 were more than 500,000 acre feet.

By 1963, there were more than 20 lakes in Texas having a capacity of 500,000 acre-feet and the Texas Almanac stopped keeping track of the smaller lakes down to the 200 acre-feet size.  There was that much increase in the surface impoundment of water, for flood control, recreation, municipal use, domestic and agricultural, and industrial use.

We may be talking about the same thing, just in slightly different timeframes.

It has only been brought up a little but lets get some talk going. Dave Campbell picks HSU as ASC champs what do the hard core  ASC fans think. I bet nobody is surprised with my pick Crusaders champs but here is how I think the conference will fall

UMHB
HSU
HPU
ETBU
TLU
SRSU
LC
McM
MC

OK, I'll bite.  How about the rationale behind your picks?

Here's mine:

1.  HSU--Offensively, they get Neal back, and have an experinced O-Line, RBs and WRs.  Defensively, if Reggie Robinson, et. al. are indeed back, as DCTF reports, then this unit could be real good.  If the injury bug doesn't bite significant numbers of guys--which admittedly hasn't happened in a number of years--HSU could be top 5 in the country.  We'll know how things will shake out on 09/17, for sure.

2.  Howard Payne--They've come a long way, baby, and have everybody back, too.  I'm not crazy about their schedule, but there's a legitimate chance they could be 7-0 heading into their 10/21 home game against HSU, where the Cowboys have historically struggled at times.  Plus, they proved that they could beat the big guys last year.

3.  UMHB--Still on the contender list for the ASC title, but I think graduation losses catch up with them a little bit this year.  Rollins and Kubiak are back, but Bryson and Williams are gone.  The Williams loss hurts, as he was the Crusaders' proven home run threat.  Crossing the country for road games at CNU and SRSU the first two weeks of the season will catch up with the Crusaders by the halfway point in the season.

4.  ETBU--IMO, ETBU will be the Texas Lutheran of last season.  They'll have the talent to knock off the big guys, and will likely beat at least one of them.  They could potentially open up 0-3, though, and that's a tough hole to dig out of.  Johnson back in the backfield is big for the Tigers.

The reasons are UMHB and HSU will be there year in and year out even though I am an offensive person defense will be the difference and UMHB has a great D year in year out they got Josh Kubiak back Ricky Lopez Jerrell Freeman coming back those players all had stand out years last year as they led the best D in the Conference. HSU is getting a great QB back and that will give the whole conference problems Jordan Neal is an outstanding player and he will make HSU better. SRSU and HPU were the two most improved teams in the conference last year but I don't think they are over the hump yet although HPU did beat UMHB last year they are still on the outside looking in. SRSU kids played harder than anybody in the conference so I wouldn't be surprised if they suprised people this year either. ETBU always has solid players so they will always be in the mix. LC's offense keeps them in games but the D has to play (See the top of paragraph) TLU and McM have to replace great QB's and that is tough so that is why I think they might struggle. Mississippi my only logic for them is some of you will like this and some of you won't but they are from Mississippi.
