Coach Spud Aldridge passed away this week, longtime McMurry coach.

Got to meet him a few times since he was my brother in laws grandfather and he was a great man.

I'm sorry to hear this. I met Spud at church one day while wearing aUMHB shirt. He was a great man to talk to, and a great ambassador for McMurry. His presence will be missed.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Hardin Simmons to honor Coaches Baugh and Keeling with life sized status.

Makes me kind of wish the UMHB-HSU game was in Abilene this year so I could check them out but guess that will have to wait until 2022

When does UMHB report for football?  I wonder with all the rising cases of COVID if there is going to be restrictions as far as attendance or games cancelled or even the season?  Hate to think negatively but I guess it's a possiblity.

Next week?  They tweeted out one week on Wednesday.  It'll be interesting to see what the rosters say.  I suspect Aaron Sims will be back just from what he has posted and been tagged in on twitter.  Legit excited to see him and KJ returning kicks again.

If they played in front of full capacity during the spike that was going on during the spring season, before the vaccine was widely available, there's no reason they wouldn't now. The Delta variant has resulted in about a 6 week spike in places like India and the UK, followed by a sharp drop off. If it behaves that way here, and there's no reason it shouldn't, then we'll be well on our way back down the curve by the time the season starts.

On another positive note, it looks like Justin Theriot will be back for the fall.  6'1, 215 running back who showed some promise in late 2019 but didn't play in the spring. If we have Theriot, Cormier, and Miller carrying the ball behind a young O-Line that could average 300# per, we could be pounding some opponents.

Going to be an exciting year. Glad that it is only 33 days until the first game. I also noticed that the first four games of the year are evening games. Maybe it won't be super super hot!

So, It's Thursday already----------------when does the CRU hit the field for the first day of practice????

Looking like ASC is staying in Reg. 6. We heard otherwise, but doesn't matter any more, looks like it's a done deal now.

There have been 21 Stagg Bowls since the institution of the AQ (1999 thru 2019)

UMU has been there 17 times.
We also have Rowan, Bridgewater, North Central and Trinity Texas.  (As an affiliate member of the SAA for football, Trinity is in Region 3.)

The other 21 teams who appeared in the Stagg Bowl have been aligned in Region 6 (if we include the now-departed Tommies).

Go figure.

Maybe the Selection Committee will break up Region 6 when selecting the brackets.

On the field of play, I would take the #10 team in Region 6 versus the #4 team in almost any other region, head-to-head!

Think about the Top 10 Region 6 teams in any given year:

WIAC 3
MIAC 2-3
ASC 2-3
SCIAC 1
NWC 2

I mean should just have a 8 team playoff, with 6 bids from this region 1 for Mount Union and 1 other.

I haven't been on here for a couple days now, but just saw this. I can confirm Sims will not be back. He is currently pursuing pro options and the draft next year but has been working with former UMHB football player Bryson Tucker, who runs Sacrifice Training in Pflugerville. KJ should be back though. And as far as UMHB has told me, they're not planning on placing restrictions at games, though things can certainly change.

One other UMHB related note as we start the season, long time SID Jon Wallin is leaving UMHB for a new gig. Jon has been a great part of UMHB and had been to literally every football game except the first season and one random time that UMHB hosted the ASC soccer tournament. His long time assistant, Sarah Harborth, will be taking over so UMHB is in good hands. I am anxious to see who takes Jon's spot as voice of the Crusader football team, whether that be her or someone else.

Wish John the best and definately going to miss him.  I've been meaning to email him or someone and ask what it would take to get photographer credentials... Guess I'll wait until next season lol.
