Anyone know if either or both of the scrimmages will be streamed online?

The Boregos game was last year by this dude on Youtube:

I haven't seen anything for the UANL game this year though... Twitter seems to not have anything posted about it from their side and UMHB hasn't really updated their stretch internet site yet this year...

A few takeaways from the Cru's last-minute win in their scrimmage with the Tigres:

-Play by QB1 and QB2 was absolutely horrible.
-Cormier's early injury gave Kenneth Miller lots of playing time, and he was outstanding.  Backup RBs look solid.
-The return game reminds me of KJ and Aaron; either Miller or Jackson can break one at any time.
-Run defense was shaky in 1st half, but halftime adjustments shut the Tigres down in the second.
-Jack Bruner looked solid in the kicking/punting game.
-How can we go 0-3 with the short-yardage QB sneak?

Discouraging to hear about the QB play. I was concerned that we might not have a quality QB this year, but to hear that the top two options are "horrible" is troubling. We won't get out of September without 2 losses if that remains the case.

Hopefully Cormier's injury isn't serious. If we don't have a passing game this year, we're going to need him.

I'll echo a lot of this.

- Tingler got the start at QB and had a lot of issues recognizing the blitz and didn't look that sharp throwing the ball.  Overall wasn't too impressed but a lot of it is stuff that can come with experience.  Hopefully he gets enough before the first couple of games of the season against really good opponents.

- I believe Landon Howell was QB2 off of the bench.  His series at the end of the first half was nothing to write home about... Lots of penalties that ended up being 15+ yards behind the sticks to start...  His series in the 4th quarter was nice though.  Sparked the offense that had been dead all of the second half with some nice passes to a couple of different receivers.

- Return game was on point.  Miller and Jackson are two quick dudes.

- Cormier looked like he had a rib injury and was out

- Don't remember who was wearing 0, but he went out with a head injury/concussion with some helmet to helmet contact.  Tigres player had to be taken off on stretcher.  Hope everyone is okay there.

- D-Line looked really good in the 2nd half and was getting QB pressures and penetration with only a 4 man rush.

- Cal Robinson looked pretty good in his limited time at WR, caught some really nice passes.

- Not sure who #83 was, but he was quick and managed to get open a couple of times at WR.

- I believe the 3rd string RB that came in was Jordan Woodward, he had a few really good runs.  Once again, looks like the Cru are going to be stacked at the RB position.

- Looks like they were trying to get the TE (Will McClintock) more involved with the passing game and he lined up as a WR much more often than as a traditional TE that we've seen in the pass.

- They did manage to have one successful QB sneak.  Interesting that they brought that into the playbook.

All in all, the offense side was lackluster.  But, defense looked pretty good.  In the end, it was the first scrimmage against a team playing their last scrimmage of the preseason.  Hopefully they improve for next weekend's scrimmage.

Oh yeah, and it SUCK still not having a roster lol...

Good breakdown.

I'm happy to hear that the defensive front as getting pressure. The inability to do that consistently without blitzing was one of the main reasons the defense took a step back last year. Hopefully the D if for real this year, and they can hold things down during the tough opening stretch while the offense comes together.

Centenary takes on ETBU in what I presume will be a scrimmage Thursday night in Shreveport.  According to the Gents' website they "won" their initial scrimmage last Saturday at Millsaps, 14-6, which if true speaks volumes about where the Majors find themselves these days.  I expect ETBU to have a much better result.

And speaking of ETBU, I see that they have signed Dairy Queen as a sponsor this year and that fans will earn "Blizzards for a year [...] when they buy season tickets."  It's a good thing I don't live in Marshall because they would lose a boatload of money on me.  ;D

Yeah, that seems dangerous...

Is it only for local DQs? Depending on their season ticket package prices, the juice may be worth the squeeze. I pass multiple Dairy Queen's everyday out on the hwys traveling for work!  :P

Anyone up for being in the Region 3 fan poll? I know Cowboy2 and ksclegal were in last year, but neither have responded for this season.

Corey Hogue's latest Blitz looks at a hypothetical merger between the ASC and the SCIAC.  Included was this:

A "source said a meeting was held last Friday evening between [ASC Commissioner] Flores and representatives of some of the [ASC] schools.  According to the source, little was done to alleviate those concerned about the ASC's direction and future."

Thanks for the link. The telling quote from that is "An alliance or merger with the SCAC would be ideal. However, the schools would've had no reason to leave the ASC if they were willing to give UMHB the automatic bid to the playoffs every season."

Unless they end up attracting HSU, it looks like the SCAC will be another mediocre football conference that has no nationally competitive teams (after losing Trinity). Meanwhile, UMHB is getting backdoor St. Thomased (to coin a phrase).

I believe the administrations of these schools remaining in the SCAC are perfectly content with that level of athletic excellence as part of the mission and vision of their respective institutions.

umhb2001

So I've read through the posts and will give my two cents concerning UMHB's scrimmage.

First, Tingler looked OK. I don't think he looked terrible. He made some good throws. Left some opportunities out there. That's to be expected when he played sparingly out there last year and is playing against guys much older.

Oline struggled at first but played better as the reps continued. I think they will be much better this weekend.

WRs were not good. Day and Cephus were fine, but others dropped wide open throws. I plan on going to the newcomers scrimmage to see what is on the rise.

RBs were excellent. Cormier looked like he was ok and not in any pain on the sideline. It seemed precautionary.

Defensively, the line pursuit was very reassuring. They continued to work and adjust as the night went on. They ended the night on a high note.

DBs looked ok. They need to grow quickly. One thing we noted was their pursuit and ball hawking ability that we didn't see last year. The injured one did look banged up but didn't appear to be too serious as he didn't go into the locker room.

LBs are going to carry this defense. They weee superb.

As a reminder, the team they played is one they have played for several years. I have seen them play almost every time and we usually don't look good against them. I think we will be fine.

Of note, several 1D guys were sitting in the stands as they were banged up. At one point, they were rooting for the kid from California to get a chance at QB. In warmups, he had the best arm and I suspect he will get a chance this week.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!
