UMHB03

I started at UMHB in fall of 1999, the second year of the football program, and I've followed the team ever since. I've never seen a worse performance. I don't think this bunch could beat any of the teams that we had during my 4.5 years in Belton. What an epic collapse for this program.

Re: UMHB @ UWRF

1) The River Falls student section was chanting "over rated, over rated" several times. They weren't wrong.

2) A River Falls player dad I met in the parking lot said that Coach Harmon had a media clip saying that UWRF would be a good "tune up" for UMHB. River Falls was using that for bulletin board material motivation. If true, not smart.

3) Another River Falls man (maybe a player dad) approached me and asked me if UMHB was playing their varsity team. I just shook my head and said "it sure doesn't look like it, does it".

4) The River Falls QB is no joke. He's really good. UMHB couldn't stop the QB draw that they ran about a billion times nor could they cover any receivers and the QB was accurate. If he can make it through the season with all that contact, that team could go somewhere. They looked solid at all positions.

5) UMHB can't help but be better. They made so many dumbass mistakes over and over that it only gets better from here.

On a slightly more positive note, if the Crusaders are going to have any chance to right the ship, or at least be competitive this year, then Phe has to be the QB the rest of the way. Considering the OL decided to take the day off, he actually looked okay, especially compared to the other QBs who spent the entire game in the fetal position. He seemed to have decent command and some mobility in light of he previously mentioned failure by the OL to block anyone.

Been watching Cru football since 98. This was the worst team, worst motivation, worst work ethic of any Cru team.

I don't think the coaches prepared them at all Coach H said that we would see a big difference from last week. No. No we didn't. Delusional.

Padron had all of the weapons last year and laid an egg. No dynamics.

Phe, the best QB all day, didn't get a single shot in either scrimmage. Huge oversight when determining what you have and who would step up.

I'm so mad right now. I know it's just a game, but I'm passionate. We expect more from our team than this. So frustrating. We could be 0-3 to start conference play.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I think UMHB03 summed it up quite well. If The Cru continues playing like this HSU and ETBU will battle it out for the AQ for the playoffs. UMHB will be lucky if they finish up the season above .500!

It's looking like the Harmon era may be short lived. I don't think I've ever seen a team at any level that is this undisciplined and unprepared. They look like they've never set foot on a football field.

You could find better long snapping at the local junior high. The OL just stands around. The DBs don't cover anyone, and then miss tackles after giving up the catch. Just embarrassing.

Forget about the playoffs, this team will be very lucky to finish above .500. From National Champs to struggling for mediocrity in just two seasons. Sad.

It won't be ETBU, I don't believe they're all that good.  HPU on the other hand could be a problem.

If the Cru finish 500 or worse, do you clean house and rebuild most of the coaching staff?

That's a bit of an overreaction. UMHB spotted River Falls 4 possessions close their goal line early in the first half (2 muffed punts and 2 fumbles) plus an interception that gave RF the ball close to the red zone. Additionally, they kicked the ball out of bounds twice in the first half giving RF the ball at the 40 or better. It's almost impossible to make that many errors again.

edit add: what does worry me is that in the past two games against good opponents UMHB showed a serious lack of resiliency after getting punched in the mouth early (North Central last year and now River Falls). That's an issue that needs to be corrected.

Fair enough, an early overreaction... however, there's no excuse for poor execution or effort, and from a recruiting point of view, little reason a program like UMHB cannot recruit a quality QB.

If they keep playing like they did today, 0-4 is not out of the question. I'm not sure if the performance we saw today would be enough to defeat ETBU.

I agree that it's just a game, but I'm mad too. UMHB football has become a major source of pride for students, alumni, and the local community. Many on this current team don't seem to share that pride. It's not just the pitiful lack of effort and discipline, but the unnecessary cheap shots and personal fouls. There was a lot going on out there today that was not worthy of this university.

Harmon needs to institute a serious reset, in my opinion. That means finding the guys who take pride in what they do, and in their school, and putting the others on the bench. It might not result in more wins if he plays guys who are less talented/athletic, but it would result in a team that we could all be proud of, even in defeat.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it... But Harmon's comments about showing kids they're not as good as they thought they were during this week's coach's show make more sense...

Totally agree.

I guess if today's game accomplished anything, it showed this team that they are DEFINITELY nowhere near as good as they (or anyone else) thought they were.

Good! Based on the OL's apparent inability to block anyone, Phe's mobility could give the offense a spark.

Now, if only they could institute a defensive scheme that involved pass coverage.

I'm more interested than maybe ever to listen to coach Harmon and try to get a feel for what the heck is going on on tonight's coaches show. Had to go grocery shopping and totally missed the live show, will there be a way to listen back on playback?
