I hadn't seen anything on the board about this, so ...

Pat Coleman's D3 preview for USA Today states that Wil Galusha will be moving from CB to receiver/nickel back this year.

That is true.  I saw him in practice and a scrimmage.  He looked good too!  made several nice catches.  The guys is dangerous when he has the ball.  He can score from anywhere on the field.

Ron,  I think the biggest cause of longer games are the number of passes being thrown today.  That will extend games with all of the incompletions.  I bet Texas Tech games are close to a 4 hour average.

Quick question for HSU folks.

I've noticed a couple of things with the roster/two-deep that I was hoping someone in Abilene could clear up for me:

1.  Jordy Bernhardt is on the numeric roster, but not listed on the two deep.  Is his knee still injured and he's out, or has Justin Feaster beaten him out for the second spot?

2.  What happened to Thurston Ashley from last year?  I don't see him on the roster.

Thanks in advance for the information.

I'll find out what's up from J Neal, but it may be after this weekend.  I probably won't see him til class Tuesday.

On a MHB note...

Coach Fred doesn't sound very happy in an article from today's paper

and Jordan, if you reading (or Mrs. Neal if Jordan is not)  Freddy was running in yesterday's scrimmage.  I guess it was just a rumor.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

1) I noticed in the scrimmage that Bernhardt was not running with group 2.  He was practicing though so it doesn't seem like he was hurt in addition, Feaster looked darn good.

2) T. Ashley had academic problems.  I saw him during summer school but I guess he wasn't able to get to where he needed to get.

Ashley's absence may have brought Justin Greene to running back from safety.  He is very quick.

I went up to the "track" at HSU to run the other day and saw Jordy doing kind of a 3/4 sprint down the straight.  He looked like he was in good condition.  I know that ACL rehab can be a little more lengthy than you would think.  The common rehab protocol is no running at all until 12 weeks post surgery.  After that an athlete will begin more sports specific rehab for his or her respective sport.  It's possible that Jordy could still be "fine tuning" some things as far as his knee goes.  However, I've seen players before at HSU get hurt and never get a chance to win back their spot.  (just a little personal bias)  :)

I went to the Menlo-McMurry game today. great day for a game. Menlo scored on their first two drives as the Indians showed the effects of having arrived at their hotel at 11p.m. the night before. McMurry finally settled in and held the Oaks scoreless the rest of the way and had a couple of good drives in the second half but were unable to score. McMurry was robbed when they went for it on 4th and 12. They completed a pass and the reciever took it inside the one. He lost the ball after his knee hit the ground but the refs gave it to Menlo. I was right on top of the play, not looking from the stands. I enjoyed talking with a few of the McMurry faithful that made the trip out to CA

Made the trip to Bethany OK for the HPU opener.  It was a good day for football, raining and about 70 degree at kickoff.  The game between HPU and SNU turned out to be a defensive game.  HPU move the ball well between the 20 yard lines but had trouble punching it in.  SNU didn't cross the 50 yard line untill late in the second quarter.  HPU missed two field goals.  Defense intercepted a ball and ran it back for a TD in the thrid quarter for the only score in the game.  HPU next game isn't until 16 September.  Looking for big improvements then.

I was at the AC/TLU game on Saturday and wanted to post my observations.  I will talk about TLU here and put my thoughts about Austin College on the SCAC board.

TLU obviously had the more skilled athletes and hurt AC with speedy receivers hitting the seams of the zone coverage AC was playing.  AC just could not keep up.  Trahan played as good as he always does. Vyvial was pretty sharp in his passes but does not appear to have the mobility Salinas had.  The running game was successful on cutback and draws whenever a RB had some space to operate in.  However, the line hard a hard time with the front three of AC and especially with the nose guard, #97 who tied with a LB for the tackle lead in this game. The line did do a good job of picking up AC's blitzes.

Defensively it was harder to get a read. AC did not have much of a passing attack and was hurt by obvious blocking errors while they are learning the option system.  AC did have their best success with power running and especially with an inside power sweep which was their best play.  I think TLU will have to improve in this part of there defense to have a chance at a title.

Overall I was impressed with TLU's execution and noticed that both teams appeared in good shape as there was no cramping by any of the players even with a noon start in the hot sun.

Man, this is the quietest I can remember the ASC board being at this time of year.  Hopefully everyone comes back after Labor Day and gets back after it!

dsc

Ron,

I agree...almost too quiet.

I hope everyone had a good summer and Labor Day cookout!

Congratulations Cowboys and all the ASC wins over the weekend!
