TLU is going to make it interesting.  That is for sure.  But don't forget about Howard Payne either.  These guys also have a good program.  There will be some very good football games to come.

I have a lot of respect for the UMHB kids. But enough already with the "1000 mile trip". It's not like your guys walked from Texas :D. Can't you give CNU a little credit and accept the loss like a gentleman. Your team was out coached plain and simple.  No doubt that UMHB is talented and I hope that we see you in the playoffs. I would enjoy seeing these guys play again.

UMHB is a tough team. They'll be ok. When they got to the 1 with less than 2 minutes left, I figured we lost since we would not be able to stop #23 4 times. I'm not sure about the play call on second down....but that's hind sight.....if it worked, we'd all be saying, "wow, what a great call". I think the real difference in the game was that CNU had big plays, made adjustments, and the coaching staff really coached the game. UMHB seemed like they were on auto pilot. I was expecting more after halftime. They just didn't adjust anything or try to mix things up a little.

It was great game to watch....the atmosphere was incredible! The fan support for UMHB was good. Even with the long trip, you filled the visitor bleachers more than many conference teams.

OK...so I'll be landing in DFW at 3:00 PM on Friday.  By the time I pick up my rental I figure it will be about 3:30-3:45'ish.  How bad should I expect the traffic to be when heading West out to Abilene?  Looking forward to my first trip to Tx.

Probably pretty heavy, at least until you get on the west side of Ft. Worth.  Sorry for the unfavorable report, but that's DFW rush-hour traffic on Friday afternoons.   :(  You should be able to make it to Abilene in time for a reasonable dinner, though.

Look me up on the sidelines on Saturday night, though.  I'll be the big guy with the camera.  And if you can, it might be fun to trek across town to see McMurry and Louisiana College play each other.

wildcat, I very strongly recommend that you take 2 (two) hours on Saturday morning to visit the museum, Frontier Texas!  It is on North 1st in Abilene.  It covers that part of west Central Texas (Fort Worth to Abilene) from 1780-1880 and is as fine a museum as you can find!

[.  Any Oregon folk going to make the long trek???  Just trying to put some life into the board some.

Yes ,  I will be making the trip but first this OLD MAN has to stop off in Tulsa and pick  up a pretty blond so if I don't get side tracked leaving Oklahoma I'll be there for the kick off..  the twins are busy this week with nascar again..  ;D

We got our butts kicked  pretty bad this last week so,  :-[  "IF"  the young kids step up and preform we just might give you a game?  ;D But from what i hear you have a very good team this year .   :-X
And might even win your league this year?  :-*

Ralph, great suggestion!!!  Frontier Texas is a very underrated attraction in Abilene.....very much worth the time, if you have it!!!

I believe the West Texas Fair & Rodeo are going on as well.....the parade kicked things off on Saturday......

On another note, one of the guys that I work with lives in Oregon, and he is a Western Oregon alumni.....I sent him a note this morning about the WO/Linfield game this past weekend, but have not heard back from him yet!!!

If my daughter's soccer season didn't start on Saturday, I would make the drive to Abilene from SA to see the game.  It sounds like HSU is going to be good again!!!

Go Cowboys!!!

Frontier Texas is a MUST SEE!   My wife and I went last year and it was great.  Well worth it.

Also my wife and I will be set up (probably behind the visitors side stands -- good parking there) and we will be grilling.  Looks like fajitas are the dish of the day so stop by and pick one up.  Homemade tortillas too!!!  I'm planning on setting up a small card table (Will probably have a yellow or purple table cloth).  I'll have a gass wok beside it and it should be smelling up the place!  We will be driving our black Honda Accord so we will be by it doing the cooking.  Come by and say hello and get a bite!

Here is what I look like so you won't miss me

Ok don't do any funny business with my picture either!!!!

Can't wait until the game.

tlugrad 2000,

Be careful in what you say.  I do not think there are many arrogant UMHB fans on this board.   UMHB did lose, yes.  Do i think they should've, no.  But it still happened.  A good point was made earlier in that CNU already had 1 game under their belt and UMHB had none.  As a high school football coach and ex UMHB linebacker, i can certainly tell you that the amount of mental mistakes made from in the first game as opposed to the last game is usually much higher.  Is this an excuse, no, but something to consider.  (this includes fumbled snaps, stalled drives, penalties, etc.)

Also, you quoted Coach Fred as saying TLU  had no running game.  This may be true but doesn't sound like something he would say, much less any other head coach of a football program. Remember that the UMHB defense prides itself on stopping the run.  I think -6 yards rushing in three quarters shows that they can do that.  TLU has an excellent receiver in Trahan, but even he needs a balanced run game to be successful.

I hope and think the CRU will bounce back from this and take it as a lesson.

Not like I was talking to you,  and UMHB aren't "my guys," but ...

Allow me to quote the esteemed owner of this board on the concept of ranking two teams:

Quote from: Pat Coleman on September 11, 2006, 02:26:45 PM
Christopher Newport: playing second game, at home
Mary Hardin-Baylor: playing first game, a thousand miles from home

A ranking should determine which team would win if a game were played on a neutral field. CNU held all the cards here, including an extra week of practice. I have no qualms about listing CNU behind UMHB on my Top 25 ballot.

Not taking anything away from the CNU kids who won the game that was presented to them on the field, just saying that all things being equal the result very well could have been different.  In this case, all things weren't equal, and the result was an upset win for the Captains.   Congratulations.

Thanks for the feedback.

Ralph...I'll make a point to head over to Frontier Texas.  Great suggestion.  I'll try to swing by before the game and say hello to the posters on here.  Just hope my 'Cats can come down and meet the challenge this Saturday.
