Thanks for the feedback.

Ralph...I'll make a point to head over to Frontier Texas.  Great suggestion.  I'll try to swing by before the game and say hello to the posters on here.  Just hope my 'Cats can come down and meet the challenge this Saturday.

It should be a great game.

If any of the Linfield faithful are interested (HSU fans too), I'd be happy to fire off the grill on Friday night and have people over so we can put faces to comments.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I would like to meet up with you myself on Friday but I'll be attending a high school game.  I'll be there on Saturday so mhb8904 come by the east Visitor parking lot.  You can find me look at the picture above!

I have been on an off of this board supporting TLU since 1999.  I had to actually WORK for a living since graduation (imagine that).  Coach Fred WAS quoted in a UMHB fall sports circular that was delivered in Morgan's Point this past weekend.

So what you flew 1000 miles.  YOU FLEW!!!!  You slept in a HOTEL!  It wasnt like you humped it a 1000 miles and then slept in a field before playing.  When you are ranked #6 you should not get beat by an unranked team.  Plain and simple you got beat no excuses, even Coach Fred said his CRU DID NOT EXECUTE.  I am a high school football coach as well and I know as well as anyone that even the best talent on a football team is for naught if you can't execute.  TLU proved that from 1998-2001 until Coach Mueller came in and in his SECOND season took the DAWGS to 7-2.  If TLU did not beat HSU UMHB would have been staying home before getting whooped by Delaware last year.  TLU beat Trinity.  TLU has played Trinity close for the last 3 years but could never get that monkey off their back until this year.  They were coached better and executed.  As a coach I also know that a top ranked team does not miss an opportunity to score a TD from the 1 yard line!!   TLU is finally being respected for the quality program is has always been.  Now if I am wrong (which happens just ask my wife LOL) I will retract my statements and give credit where due, but I am gonna have faith in my alma mater and believe they are going to chase the ASC title.  They may come up short but it will be better than the past 6 years.  The last time TLU started this well they won their SECOND national championship IN A ROW with their current head coach as their Defensive Coordinator and Jim Whacker as head coach.   UMHB is good but not that good as falling 8 spots indicates.  If the CNU game was such a close thing UMHB would not have dropped so many spots!

I LOVE the ASC!  I dare to think there is a tougher division in D3 football with UMHB, HSU, HPU and TLU.  All in all we are the best  conference in D3!  Good luck to everyone this season!

KUDOS!!!!!  and tlugrad2000 I respect your opinions and all of your comments but they have a lot respect to earn among the ASC.  It has basically for many years either a one or two team conference.  We have seen ETBU come and go in two years.  Yes TLU beat HSU last year among injuries or whatever, but with all do respect I think they need some big wins in the conference to earn that repect from the big two.

Pat, game of the week in Abilene this week????

tlugrad2000, I don't think that you are giving enough credence to the first game/ second game facts of the UMHB situation.

Without the 1000-mile road trip, from 2002 thru 2005, TLU opened its season in the second week of play against a Trinity team which had opened against Austin College in week #1.

2002 Trinity 42-14
2003 Trinity 40-0
2004 Trinity 42-31
2005 Trinity 31-23

Second game of the season for both teams--

2006 TLU 14-9!  TLU turned the corner when the schedules were equivalent!

As for falling 8 spots in an early poll after a loss, that is about the average that we have seen in Pat's poll over the years.

... Jim Whacker as head coach.

Jim Whacker? (Somewhere in the universe, I bet the late Jim Wacker is now rolling his eyes.  ;))

No way I'm gonna touch that line, Josh ....  :P

Seriously, didn't Jim Wacker pass away not too long ago...?

Yes, about a year or two ago. Some sort of malignancy, as I recall.

Son, I've been "working for a living" probably since you were in diapers.  And supporting my team (which isn't UMHB, as anyone who has perused these boards for any length of time would know) through thick and thin - and for all the success my guys have had, there have been some pretty embarrassing moments along the way.

Congrats on defeating Trinity.  I know it's a huge step for your program, even if TU was lacking its starting QB for most of the game.   Mueller is a very fine coach who will not make the mistake of equating a 2-0 start with a national championship ... or that last week's result equates to an ASC championship or a bid to the playoffs.  It's a step along the way, but substantial challenges remain.

Now let me get this straight, Ron. Are you, above, damning TLU with faint praise ... or praising them with faint damns?  ;D
