Coach Fred told me a couple of years ago that he thinks teams make their greatest improvement between the first and second game.  You have a good point tlcbdawg.

Bill M - The CRU lost 6 off their starting 05 defense-Reed, S. Williams, Mosley, Morton, McPhaul, And RoJo. 3 Linemen, MLB, and two DB's. UMHB has to re-load on both sides of the ball, and then hope that some of the guys from last year's two deep can step up. Looking at the starting two-deep from all 05 games will give you a pretty good idea that the CRU got a lot out of their entire roster. They played a lot of folks. Realistically after losing 12 starters 06 could be considered a re-building year for the CRU.

Gentlemen - I call your attention to the above posted on 1 July 06. In addition, in the CNU game both starting cornerbacks were out with injuries. Coach Fred pulled no punches, he said that he did not have the Crusaders ready for the game. He made no excuses about travel or injuries, he said the Cru did not execute.
UMHB has a lot of talent, but they haven't jelled yet as a team.

MINNI, you need to  realize who beat HSU and kept you from going to the post season last year with a team that is even better this year !  So do not get so full of yourself until the clock runs out in the 4th quarter and the winner is revealed.  It could be anyone.  HSU will have their  hands full with TLU as will UMHN unlike seasons past.

No one personally insulted me. I just felt some comments really werent called for but as it has been said if you deal it out you have to take it and I can do just that

All these excuses about this injured player and a scout QB is BS.  As a coach we train ALL our guys with the same plays and the same discipline.

Uh-huh.  And you lost to SUL ROSS last season when Salinas was hurt and Vyvial had to step in at QB.  Go ask Coach Mueller how happy he'd be if he had to play his #3 QB in a key game.  The lower the player is on the depth chart, the fewer reps he gets with the starters.  "As a coach" we certainly understand that, don't we?

tlugrad2000

Lower on the food chain less reps is the case.  HOWEVER, we beat HSU when it was all on the line and HSU could not beat a truly inferior team.  HSU beat themselves by not executing.  Maybe TOO overconfident? HMMMMMMMMMMMMM???

Game of the Week. Game of the Weak?
We can all stop hyping the UMHB-Christopher Newport game. I know that CNU is a talented program but, judging from last week, it doesn't appear that this is going to be a big year for them. I think UMHB will handle them pretty well just because the Cru has had nine months to think about their playoff loss to Wesley. Some things have changed for UMHB defensively and I'm afraid that they're gonna take out their frustration on CNU.

Here is a UMHB who is NOT drinking the kool-AID

TLUgrad2000,

You seem to be all over the board.   TLU lost by 8 at Trinity, by 7 at UMHB, by 1 at ETBU, by 7 to HPU at home and by 1 at SRSU!  TLU was lousy on the road (2-4) with wins over AC 42-9 and MissColl 27-22.  Conversely, TLU was 3-1 at home, including wins over McMurry 41-20,  LC 44-41, and HSU 32-27.

TLU was 29 points away from 10-0.  Your win over HSU was with your first and second string QB's against HSU's 3rd string QB.  I don't think that TLU was truly inferior;  we all wondered which TLU team would show up!

I have been a long time supporter of D3 Athletics...and a frequent reader of this board. Most of the time I dont choose to react to others' stupidity but tlugrad...chill man. One week. One win. This is a LONG season and as we can all testify to, anything can happen. Just as last year you upset HSU and lost to a horrible team in Sul Ross...this season you beat a beat up TU team and might just run into a healthy HSU team. Before you accuse me of making excuses for last year you can stop b/c I'm just stating a fact...not defending ourselves for losing. I commend your team for winning... 1 GAME...just lets be careful what feathers we fluff after week 1. If the W's keep coming then your mouth is sure to follow...until then get the chip off your shoulder and enjoy D3 football and the fact that you might just have a sport at TLU to brag about...

as the name states. GO HSU!!!

It is not Minni that needs to realize this but the current Cowboy players.  Speaking of realizations, you may not realize this but you are making some very good bulletin board material for the opposing teams that TLU plays.

My best advice is to be respectful of each team.  You surely can critique teams and point out strengths and weaknesses and even pick a projected winner without sounding too bold.  That should help your karma situation.

If HSU and TLU are still leading the conference on November 4, this board will be jumping.  Still almost 2 months away.

What is the story on ETBU? I think HPU will be looking for a little redemption after last years loss.

UMHB has a lot of talent, but they haven't jelled yet as a team.

CNU also lost 6 starters on D and 6 on Offense. This included 3 LB including one LB who was an All-American LB who played in the Aztec Bowl. This is also a "re-building" year for CNU.

I like the UMHB coach...similar to CNU's Kelchner....pulls no punches and tells it like it is. Maybe that's why they both are so successful.

For some "rebuilding" teams that was one heck of a game!!
