Weak Safety

HSU falls five.  UMHB climbs five.  Sounds fair to me.

D3 football has UMHB 7th and HSU 10th.  I like 2 Top 10 teams from the ASC.

I was just looking at the conference standings and SRSU is in 2nd place all by themselves.  HSU's cancelled game prevents a true tie.  Who would have thought this in August?

I was at the ETBU game.  MCM couldnt stop the run.  It was a mistake filled game on both sides.  MCM starting QB did not play the first half.  Roshawn was in uniform but did not play...Brandon Sampson who was playing corner earlier in the season was awesome running the ball 100+ and 3 tds and he had another called back.  Maybe this is something that the team can build on.

barring some freakin disaster and UMHB losing a conference game they still have the Pool A spot correct and HSU Pool C?

Another scenario:  UMHB Loses to UW and loses a conference game and goes 7-3 gets the pool A and HSU gets a Pool C, can HSU still have the number 1 seeding as a Pool C????

I think i finally have the crow out of my teeth.  It wasnt as bad as it could have been.  Thanks UMHB fans.....

I was wondering about Schoepf's Barbecue...

Did they feature the barbecued crow on Saturday?  :-\

What a weekend!

To answer Minni's question, UMHB can lose one more game and hold the Conference's AQ and go 7-1.  HSU can go 6-1 with the LC cancellation.  UMHB can even keep the Pool A bid if they lose to UW-Whitewater.  ON the Pool C page, I have HSU as my Top Pool C team.  If Bridgewater goes undefeated, how do you deny them the Top seed?

UMHB has the tie-breaker if they get a game canceled for weather reasons, too.

We can see how the CRU does, but if defense wins championships, we should get a doctoral dissertation the rest of the season on how it does.

On the basis of the McMurry game, and how we were able to score as much as we did, (15 points plus one more scoring attempt that failed in the red zone), I honestly thought that HSU's offense would overcome UMHB's defense.  Perhaps no one in the conference can beat UMHB now.

If so, then go Cru!  We need a Championship. :)

Well, Ralph--I didn't need to eat any crow, personally, so I'm not sure how Schoepfs would serve it up.

Second, HSU had over 320 yards of total offense, to less than 200 for McMurry.  In fact, HSU significantly outgained UMHB in total yardage.  HSU was denied one other score because of an untimely false start penalty and an outstanding, athletic play by Josh Kubiak to block a field goal.  That would have at least made the score 28-20.

If it weren't for HSU's three turnovers, two of which really set UMHB up for excellent scoring chances from a field position standpoint, we very well might be talking about a different outcome.

The Crusaders' front seven is extremely good.  Extremely.  Maybe the best I've seen at the DIII level.  However, HSU moved the ball effectively for most of the game.  The Cowboys were just unable to execute at the most key moments and to hang onto the damned ball.  This was by no means a woodshed beating.  It was an excellent game between two very evenly matched teams, where one made mistakes and the other took advantage of those mistakes.

And doesn't that seem to be the way this game always goes.  He who makes the least mistakes wins.

I finally get to see the CRU as they come east to play LC on Saturday! Any of you UMHB folks coming this way, I would love to meet you (I don't post much, but read most everything).

I have only seen LC play once, against LaGrange - which they won with ease. However, everything I hear indicates they are improving. The new head coach, Dennis Dunn, enjoys almost legendary status  in Louisiana having won 9 state high school championships at Evangel (located in Shreveport).

UMHB needs to come in and take care of business in order take another step toward defending their ASC title.

GO CRU!

And I'd like to go on the record by saying that the team that deserved to win the game yesterday, did.

two things when do the regional rankings come out.  Second how freaking fast is the UMHB defense? The third thing is how freaking good is Josh Kubiak in the words of Manuel from "The Bad News Bears" the orginal version

I know I said only two things and then brought up 3 but I have been celebrating and might be a little too "happy"

So Josh and Ron
The MHB d-backs, what is y'alls opinion?

Weak Safety

I'm not Josh or Ron but I have an opinion anyway.  Kubiak is a free safety stuck in a linebacker's body - but he has cornerback speed!  Definitely the best in the conference, probably one of the top few in the nation (heck, maybe the best). The rest of the DB's weren't anything we won't see the rest of the year.  The linebackers were extremely fast.

UMHB's defense somehow continues to improve every year.  This years team will go as far as the defense will take them.  If the defense digs a hole, I don't believe the offense can dig them out.  Two phases of UMHB's game are clearly superior, but the offense won't have a short field all season long.

HSU special teams must improve if we hope to make the playoffs

Weak Safety,

Nice assessment.  I think the dbacks are basically serviceable.  They're not lock down, but they have good enough speed to defend most receivers.  Kubiak on the other hand is sick.  He's big, he's fast, and he hits like a freight train.  I've only seen him turn on the afterburners a few times, but he showed that he was fast enough to walk down dusty thornhill from 10yds away with no angle . . . twice.

I just hope UMHB finds a clear offensive identity before playoffs.  The run game is there, but I think it would be more effective if they could get the pass game a little better.  Welch has the skills, and there are a couple of receivers that I think could really be good.  maybe we'll see that develop over the end of the season.
