So we are half way through the week....what is everyone's take on the HPU/HSU game???

Always a tough game for HSU, but HPU is apparently not as good as they were advertised.  HSU should probably handle them, but just curious about everybody elses opinions!!!   ;)

minni

ok does Mississippi have the internet????  Come on guys give us some info.  What are they saying about the game this weekend?  Any hopes at all for yall or have yall just given up on the season?

By the way I hate this game for the Cowboys this weekend almost as much as playing UMHB.  Every weekend I am going to be on edge from here on out.  I dont know the last time we didnt make the playoffs two years in a row, but im almost positive someone could tell me right away.  Ive got faith in my team though, and hopefully we can just keep on rollin.

I never really said much about the UMHB game, other than me chocking on crow, but I talked to some guys and they are extrememly excited about another chance to play them, given the opprotunity.  We dominated the first half , they dominated the second half.  A tale of two halves.  This rivalry, and i think you can call it that, has got to be one of the tops in D3.  My only hope is that it ends up in Abilene again.

kickahoe,

Jimmy K loves to beat his alma mater.  The Cowboys are playing in the playoffs right now.  They lose they are done.  I just hope they keep that in mind everyday as they prepare.  I havent heard much from the HPU faithful here on the board.  I think the Cowboys should pretty much handle them with no problem.

Offense was clicking last Saturday, starters didnt play much in the second half, maybe one series.  Put up 42 points in one half and i would say that 99% time you will be doing fine after 4 quarters.  Defensively we seem to be sporadic (sp) at times.  I think we got to Van Cleave several time last week, just need to work on consistency on the defensive side of the ball.  EAD PIB, come on defense i know yall read this.  SHUT OUT THIS WEEK.  MAKE A STATEMENT.

sorry its kickhoe not kickahoe!!!  My bad!!! ;D

OxyBob,

I will defer to any HSU alums on that one.  This Methodist was just having fun with his Baptist brethren.

(Old joke-  do you know the difference between a Methodist and a Baptist?  The Methodist will say hello to you in the liquor store!  :D)

Josh, any HSU or Logsdon lurkers out there!

Yea not much has been said about the HPU/HSU game this week.  I'm still trying to get over the frustration of the past three games in which HPU has been leading by 9 points in the 4th quarter and ending up losing the games.  I have my thoughts on the rasons but will keep them to myself.

I just hope HPU pulls it together and plays the best game this weekend.  Can HPU win the game, that will be decided on the field.

With Dr. McGraw, anything is possible.  Given that I don't know who Dr. Longbotham is/was, it's hard for me to say.

If HSU plays like they can, HPU has no prayer.  After watching HPU at McM they have talent, but HSU's D can hold down their passing attack.  If HPU can generate a run game up the middle they can give HSU a little trouble.  Ive seen HSU play 4 games now and the middle of the D-line seems to be its softest point.   Of course that might be like saying a sack of flour is softer than a piece of granite because they've been solid most of the time.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Tsk, tsk, Josh.   ;)

The Longbotham's: Preserving the Heritage of the American Buffalo

Dr. Jack Longbotham, a 25-year professor of education at HSU and his wife Elizabeth, a former faculty member at McMurry, are keeping the heritage of the plains buffalo alive. Authors of the children's buffalo trilogy books, Young West Collection, the Longbothams discovered their passion for the buffalo in the early 1990's when the popular icon of the American West was making a slow comeback.  They now raise over 30 buffalo on their property near Zephyr.

The Longbothams recently came to the rescue of West Texas A & M when their mascot, a buffalo traditionally named Thunder, died unexpectedly after ingesting a piece of wire on Memorial Day weekend.  The Longbothams donated two young buffalo to that university's program in time for their annual homecoming activities.  "They really bailed us out," said WTAMU's Herdsman Advisor Shawn Burns.  Thunder VIII and IX were immediately nicknamed Jack and Liz, and the Longbothams were invited to the homecoming parade as Grand Marshals.  Dr. Longbotham even offered to help start a bison studies program to take advantage of the rangeland in the Quitaque area.

mhb8904...I agree with you...I also think HSU is a bit weak against the run....ETBU was able to run pretty easily against them...fortunately, ETBU couldn't do much else!!!  If HPU can establish a decent run game, they will give HSU problems......

One other issue I have with HSU....an this goes back for years....HSU makes some of the most stupid, idiotic penalties at the wrong time....without fail, HSU will get some sort of personal foul called against them that will keep a drive going for the other team....mark my words!!!!  ;)

After seeing that, I think Jack may have been retired before I got to HSU, Ron.  I never knew of him prior to today.   :-\

kickhoe,

Imagine how annoying it is for the home team when UMHB shows up with as many fans in tow as the home team has coming and shouting that.  My question is what's up with Dr. McGraw's whole "the thunder roles" thing at a touchdown?  It doesn't bother me just makes me wonder where that came from.  It does not make sense to me.

mhb8904, I actually think that the "the thunder roles" goes back to a 14th Century question on the Legitimacy of Anabaptistic Apostolic Succession.  ;D :D ;D

An HSU lurker friend of mine calls me forward to the early 16th century for a more serious consideration of Anabaptists.   As for Apolsotolic Succession, he declares that that's a Roman Catholic thing!  ;D

Ralph: If I remember correctly, and for what it may be worth, the  Church of Sweden [Lutheran] also claims Apostolic Succession. Maybe the Church of England, too, though ol' Henry 8 may have put the kibosh on that.

I don't think I would automatically give HSU the win, yes they will be favored.  Some strange things have happend when top ASC teams have come to Brownwood to play.  Last year UMHB lost to HPU in Brownwood.

I am hopeful that HPU puts together a great game and pulls out the win.  It would help in dealing with the frustration of the past few weeks.

Now before I hear that HPU doesn't have a chance or in your dreams, who would have thought that Sul Ross would be playing as well this year as they have or that TLU would have beat HSU last year.  They play the games for a reason.

I pray that both teams play their best (HPU a little better) and no one gets injured.

Ask an HPU fan whom they would rather beat and it is most likely HSU followed closely by McMurry and UMHB and then Sully when necessary!

This is a rivalry game and all bets are off! :)
