After watchin the Wesley game UMHB played last year I dont seriously think that they can beat the hawks, that dosen't mean the hawks cant lose it.  With big hawk wins two weeks ago against lacrosse and this comming sat. its gonna become pretty clear that the 2 best teams in the country are just that much better than everyone else.

IF there is anything you should know about football, it is that you have a short memory.  Besides, that Cru Defence is the best I have ever seen and lessons come ahrd but at least they come.  That game has nothing to do with the game this saturday.  GO Cru!!!  It will be a long trip home for Wis!!!

From the looks of it, and from what I understand from looking at the stats each week, it seems that if 2 players sack a player, the person who made contact first gets 1 sack, and the player who assists gets a half sack.  I don't know if that is our stat guy or the stat program the ASC or our school uses.  And on top of that, who knows if that is official or accurate.

Sounds like the NEW Texas math joke:

Q.  How many UMHB players does it take to get a sack?
A.  One, but 2 get credit for it.

Sounds like someone missed a day at STAT Taking 101 class!

Please note the quote was from a Sul Ross player.  At UMHB they get their sacks the old fashioned way, by crushing the QB ;D

All I said was that our SID does it like that.  Has nothing to do with my math skills.  He uses the same program as all of the other ASC schools to record stats, which is the reason I was confused on why he was awarding 1.5 sacks for a sack that should have been 1 total sack, with each guy getting .5 sacks.  That could be the same way every team in our conference is getting stats.  I also noticed that if you assist on a TFL, only the first person listed gets the credit for the TFL, the second guy gets an assisted tackle.  This sack thing is the same as getting credit for one tackle, when all you did was assist on the play.  Sorry you guys couldn't figure that out on your own, but glad I could clear it up for you.  And on a side note, all my sacks have been solos (while "crushing" the QB).  If you think the tackles sound funny, call our SID.  He's in charge of it.  I was just shedding some light on the situation.

What I have learned from being a UW-LaX alum and WIAC fan is that for the past couple years, UWW has been the one giving others the hard lessons nearly all the time. I expect Sat. to be a 4 quarter game, but otherwise business as usual for UWW.
With a pleasant ride home after the game.

Please don't take offense to my comment about math skills. I have two brothers living in Austin and we always joke about how unique Texas is compared to Wisconsin. A little light banter is good for the soul.

Oh, I'm not offended in the least.  I was kidding around myself.  No hard feelings.  I just was making sure it was clear that those were my observations on the SID's stats, not my understanding of how the stats should be taken.

The sacks thing must be a setting Sul Ross decided to use. Sul Ross' stats on the ASC site display sacks in the normal way:

W00t!!  Thanks for making the trip, guys, and enjoy the game.  Weather tomorrow:  mostly clear, highs in the upper 70s, light winds.  Perfect football weather!

I think alot of you fans from up north forget that when UMHB has been the underdog ie ( the run to the national championship) they have risen to the occasion. UMHB knows how to win the big games and they know how to play all 4 quarters. Remember 2 years ago at Mount Union, the cru handed them their first defeat at home in a long time. MU going into the game was something like 122-1 not to mention their home winning streak. So I know the cru can play ball with anyone in the nation.

I dont know enough about UWW other than their number 2 ranking, but i do UMHB can be vulnerable at times.  As a former player it does exicte you to play a higher ranked team, but it also puts a thought in your head.  It should be a wonderful hard fought game this weekend.  I guess we shall know staurday evening.

I met a girl who sang the blues and I asked her for some happy news. She just smiled and turned away. And I went down to the sacred store where I heard the music years before but the man there said the music wouldn't play. In the street the children screamed, the lovers cried the poets dream, not a word was spoken the church bells all were broken and the 3 men I admired the most the father, the son, and the holy ghost the caught the last train for the coast. The day the music died. They were singing bye bye Ms. American Pie drove my chevy to the levy but the levy was dry and those good old boys drinking whiskey and rye singing this will be the day that I die.

Kinda dead on the board and this was the first thing to pop into my head looking foward to a classic battle tomorrow. Go Cru

I may have missed an earlier post, but does anybody have any thoughts on the keys to beating UWW?

Bill - Some of my keys to a UMHU victory

1.  Getting off to a fast start.  WW nearly always plays from the lead.  Last week at UWP was the first time they trailed in a game (7-0 & for only 1 play), but it quickly turned into a 21-7 lead and the rout was on.  When they get ahead, they'll step on your throat and not let up.

2.  Keep the ball out of WR Derek Stanley's hands. Contain him after the catch.  He is very fast, has outstanding leaping ability, though he is not tall in stature, and can easily turn a short route into a long gainer, usually a TD.

3.  Control the clock. Keep WW's offense on the sidelines.  WW defense is very good too, at least the front 7.  The secondary is small at the corners and have shown to be vulnerable to the long pass.

4.  Win the special team/field position battles.  WW has a freshman placekicker who is very good (9 for 9 I believe in fieldgoals) and a very serviceable punter.

5.  Play with poise - control penalities.  WW takes advantage of other teams mental mistakes better than most teams I have seen.

More later, I have to get on to some family business (my 3 year old daughter wants to go ride her bike :))
