Watch out Cowboys, I think you overlooked TLU last year, and talking about 60 or more points this year, you may be in danger of doing the same.....

Ron Boerger

The football team isn't doing the posting about "60 point" wins.  You can bet they are fully aware that lack of focus cost them a playoff bid last year.

minni, you really can't assign a player to anyone in the kicking game.  It will completely mess up their rules.  I would imagine one player failed to execute or more likely blocked the wrong person.  When you go picking out one player you will most likely open up the rush for someone else.  Everyone has to execute their assignment.

...or maybe it was just that screwy punt formation somebody on the HSU coaching staff thinks is a good idea.  Thank god its gone--this isn't the first time it's been tried, nor is it the first time we've seen the same result!

How did they line up Josh?  Was it that spread punt with the crazy wide splits?

minni-- anyone can say "assign a guy to Kubiak and don't let him through."  Coaches talk about that all week long in game planning of offense, defense, and special teams.  It always looks pretty on the board, but it never really turns out that way on the field.

Indeed, they're not. Players (and the coaches) know better.

Yeah it was a spread punt formation.  Definitely not the best formation against an explosive  and tested block.

I think they went back to the regular formation after the punt block.

A couple people have already mentioned how you cannot possibly block one particular player on punt, but as a former Crusader I would like to add a comment.  Blocking kicks has become a more important part of the Crusader special teams in each passing year.  There is great pressure in the middle and constant pressure on the outside.  One of the best block I ever saw was when the guys on the outside and in the middle were blocked, but I linebacker ran through the C gap untouched and blocked the punt.  This just proves that every team needs to work on special teams and turn it into a weakness and not a strength.  Because I have also been involved in a pretty big game (Stagg Bowl) where one special team play may have made a big difference, but that is why I love football, every player on every play has to be doing there job and working as a unit or it is a no go.  UMHB will continue to work on its special teams (particularly blocking punts), since Coach Fred knows how it can impact the game.

Crualum39 is right too.  If someone as slow as him can make a block than really anyone can!!   ;)  :) :D

Hope you enjoy reading that as much as I did typing it.

I talked to JNeal after class a few minutes ago.  I can assure you he's focused on TLU and plans on leading the HSu to victory.  He also said he would rather play someone other than UMHB in the playoffs, not for fear of losing, but because he has played against them 7 times in his carrier, and he thinks that HSU matches up better with most other teams.  I can't say I disagree with him.  I think it would be cool if HSU and UMHB could meet up further down the road than the second round.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I agree mhb8904, and hopefully in a few years after both teams continue to be ranked within the top 10 and don't lose to any other teams than each other this could actually happen.  Ralph, Ron, and/or Josh do any of you guys think that this is an event that could actually occur in the next few years? Just wanting your realistic opinion, because if it were up to me (and I am sure other Texas football fans) these two great teams would meet in the semis  :) It could happen.
