There is a down side to all of this for me...Jordan's last game.  I hat to see that.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

No... trying to be a person of integrity. I retracted my previous statement, because it was wrong. And when I realized it, I corrected it.

What you wrote/said was:

"That play was THE critical point in the game.  HSU had finally stopped UMHB.  The Crusader defense was on the ropes.  The eggregious mistakes by the officials completely changed the complexion and momentum of the game, and ultimately affected the outcome of the game."

"While I wish UMHB good luck moving forward in the playoffs, I cannot and will not ever think anything but that the game was spurilously given to them by the officials."

While you did not exactly say "the call" cost them the game, you come pretty close, don't you think?

And I do not agree with your assessment of "the call."

I am done. The horse is more than dead.

mhb8904,

Thanks for the call. I appreciate it. I would have called you back, but I didn't think you would be able to hear me. The feed was coming through loud and clear.

I will be able to be at the W&J game.

Catland, this is the last I'll say about it tonight, too.

I can appreciate your last comment.  For the record, if the HSU defense had been able to stop the UMHB offense in third-and-long situations (pretty much) all day long, then the call is irrelevant.  The fact that they didn't is the bottom line.

To assume that a game can't turn one way or the other on one play though is just ridiculous.  You've seen enough football to know better than that!

I digress yet again, though.  Though it's quite clear we will never see eye-to-eye on this subject, you should know that I'm not going to take pot shots at your karma.  That would be chicken poo, and I don't do unto others what I don't want done to me.

Just wanted you to know that I think we can have a heated debate without resorting to the type of behavior you mentioned earlier.

I missed 2 calls during the game and caught one, but only because I happened to look down as the phone rang, so I probably wouldn't have heard the phone.  I have to work on Saturday so I won't make it.  That really blows because I'll be in Killeen from Wednesday to Friday.  If I asked, I could probably get off, but with students out for thanksgiving we're shorthanded so I'll set up the Wireless at work and listen on the laptop.

Josh,

I agree that we can debate and argue and agree to disagree agree-ably. I was not referring to you on the smiting... but others seem to "love to hate" whenever "heated" discussions take place.

We both love and support our teams. I respect your passion for HSU and I have nothing but respect for the Cowboys. In the early years of the UMHB program, the CRU just couldn't get over the hump that was HSU. The Cowboys were the gold standard in the ASC that UMHB strove to emulate. Of late, UMHB has had a measure of success. I am proud of their accomplishments.

The real tragedy is that HSU and UMHB were not beating other teams today.

Tis true.  CNU went out and lost HSU's home game!

Toby, I'd be quite surprised if UMHB doesn't win by at least four touchdowns.  W&J's record in the playoffs against Texas teams is real bad:  they're 0-3 and have been outscored 148-29 in games against HSU, Trinity and UMHB.

Josh, I just got back and am able to read the posts.  The penalty for 12 men was the correct call.  The HSU player was sprinting to get off of the field.  2 of the back judges threw flags.  HSU tried to call time out to prevent the penalty.  UMHB had been penalized for the same thing earlier in the game.  Also, I saw it twice the night before in a high school game and Texas high schools use NCAA rules.  The question among the officials was not if it was an infraction, but had HSU called time out before.  I don't believe they had.

You are correct, it was a huge play.  Momentum had definitely gone to the Cowboys.  I don't think the officials cost HSU the game.  It was hard fought to the end.  HSU could not run the ball at all and could not stop the UMHB option.  This is a tremendous rivalry and I wish they could have met in the 2nd round.

Thanks, Bob.  For those of us in the ASC, a conference that did not get to D3 until 1996, just in time for the birth of D3football.com and D3hoops.com, history begins on this web site!  :)

If W&J doesn't have more speed than they did in 2004, I expect UMHB to win the game in a convincing matter.

Ralph,

the AA rule book says "Team A may not break its huddle with 12 or more players." [Rule 3 Section 5c]  It says nothing about Team B.

Thanks, mhb8904.

In that case, does the handbook mean that Team A is the team with the ball, or having possesion of the ball, etc., or the "defense"? :) ??? :)
