The St. Paul (MN) Pioneer Press is reporting that Jim Good of TLU (their associate head coach) will be hired as the Hamline (MN) head coach.  Is this a surprise to the TLU fans?  What is the rap on him?

edit: misspelling.  My apologies.

Jim Good's bio.

(He's a Linfield grad from back in their NAIA days.  He'd been at Illinois College, too.)

Has anyone heard when recruits will begin visiting the ASC schools?

Bill McCabe

Are any of the non-football playing ASC schools considering adding football?  Is the ASC looking for another football member?

Good question. Concordia's new campus in northwest Austin apparently will have room for a football field, but I've no idea if they wish to initiate this sport. Football would boost their [male] enrollment, but competition for D3 players is already pretty fierce down there, isn't it?

Bill McCabe

Warren, do you know where the new Concordia campus is going to be located exactly?

There are lots of good football players in the Dallas - Houston - San Antonio triangle.  UMHB, Trinity, and TLU would be the only schools in that area.  I would think another school could successfully add football.

I've read several times that one reason TLU brought back football was to stop the decline in male enrollment.

Bill, go to

        http://www.concordia.edu

and then click on "Relocation." Full details are there.

The new venue is the former Schlumberger research park in a heavily wooded area not far from Lake Travis. A beautiful site, indeed, part of which is a nature preserve.

Bill McCabe

Warren, you are right.  What a beautiful site for a university.  I would think if Concordia wanted to add football they would be able to recruit players.  Austin is a place a lot of young people like to go.

Though I'm a native San Antonian, Austin remains one of my favorite places. Back in the very, very Dark Ages, I lived there for eight years (four high school, two college, and two grad school [UT]). Were my wife and I a bit -- quite a bit -- younger, we'd consider relocating down there from Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Our second choice would be Seguin, where I taught at Texas Lutheran, 1963-66, or perhaps the Hill Country. (On the other hand, our daughter, son-in-law, and grandson live just minutes away from our house here ... and that counts for a great deal.)

Living hereabouts isn't bad -- far from it -- but the locals have little idea of what real barbecue is all about ... and the same for genuine Tex-Mex cooking. As well, Shiner beer still isn't available in Pennsylvania.  :'(

Warren, we can send you the Shiner beer!!!  :D

Great! I'll take a stack of Bock and a stack of the Blonde.  ;)

Actually, Shiner is available in the Middle Atlantic region, but you have to go to Delaware or Maryland to get it. Thus far the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which tightly controls the sale and distribution of beer, booze, and wine, hasn't seen fit to place Shiner on its list of "authorized" brews.

Congratulations to Boise State!  What a courageous effort! :)

I agree Ralph.  I have never seen so many trick plays in one game.  That was incredible.

Sender

They only ran trick plays at the end, when Ou's depth came into play.  They out played OU on the lines.  That was the best game I ever saw.  They had walkons and guys nobody wanted like D3, and shoved it right up Bob Stoops @#@.

Bill McCabe

Sender,  Boise State was very physical and had great team speed.  I had seen them play on TV several times and thought they might play well against OU.  What a great game.
