Ralph, I had a high school teammate that played at LeTU.  He only stayed a year or two.

Congratulations to Preston Meyer, former LB at UMHB, on earning a spot on the ASC Hall of Honor.  He is one of two of the first student-athletes to attain this honor.  My son played behind Preston for two years and I know him pretty well.  This is a huge honor for this fine young man.

See link below from D3Football.com notables.

Anything that you ardently desire, vividly imagine, totally believe and enthusiastically pursue will inevitably come to pass !!!

SU played football when it was a two year school.  In my mind, I think SU was all male at that time.  I could be quite wrong on that statement.  With the progress being shown by CUA, It would not surprise to see  serious consideration on adding football as they mature into their new campus.  I think CUA could become a serious contender should they determine to make the effort.  It is my recollection that Ozarks played football until about 1960.  What are some thoughts on what might, might not, happen???

Ralph,

I've been thinking that one way to help get the D3 message out in Texas would be for the D3 schools to start the recruiting process early.  Now I don't mean hounding kids about coming to a school.  I mean all the D3's should make an effort to expose kids in a 30 mile radius to the product.  Give all of the middle school football teams passes to the games...let the kids hang with the players and create a connection in the minds of the kids.  For MHB that would encompass copperas cove, georgetown, temple, Killeen ...  Add that exposure to the personal connections made by coaches who played d3 ball (like Preston Meyer) and you start building a base of kids who might choose to play d3.  You might even find d1 or d2 caliber students making d3 the first option.  I had a friend growing up who wa offered several D1 soccer scholarships, but turned them down for academics.  He played during college, but school was primary.  Those are the kids I'd like to expose to d3.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Congrats to Josh Kubiak who was selected to play in the Texas vs America All-Star game in the El Paso Sun Bowl but due to an injury will not be able to play.

mhb8904, That is one good strategy in that part of the state.  IN Abilene/Brownwood, those aged kids already know the campuses.  Unfortunately, there are as many football players in the Garland ISD as there are in the 30-mile radius of Belton, and we have not even begun to cover the Mesquite ISD, the Arlington ISD, the Denton ISD, the Lewisville ISD, the Richardson ISD, the Spring ISD, the Alief ISD, etc.

As you mention, I think that the long term strategy comes from the Junior High and High School coaches that have played in the ASC.  Of course, every kid playing junior high ball thinks that he will win the Heisman.

Guy's, I think it is a matter of funding.  These programs have only so much money for recruiting.  I talked with John Neese (HSU AD) one time about recruiting in San Antonio.  I had noticed that the majority of the players that play at HSU come from the West Texas/North Texas area.  John said that one of the assistant coaches covers the SA area, but also covers other areas as well.  If you look at all of the D3 schools, the bulk of their players come from their backyard.  It is much cheaper to recruit a kid who lives down the street rather than traveling to San Antonio or Houston.

San Antonio has got some good HS programs and I think Trinity, Texas Luthern and to a small extent, UMHB, capitalize on that homegrown talent.  I just wish HSU would concentrate down here a bit more!!!

Since Kubiak is injured and cannot play he is not on the roster. I just know that he was selected but cannot play. I would also send my congrats to Farney and Hambrick I didn't know they made the team.

Posted this in the SCAC topic, but thought some would like to see this here too ... some have already mentioned this game, but here's more details and a couple links.  Congratulations to all those young men selected.

Since Tx State's coach left, do you think they may go after UMHB's head coach.  He would be a good choice.  I was just wandering.

Ron Boerger

I think that Pete is happy where he is.  Can't see him wanting to take on the rigors of a D-I program at this stage of his life.

But Ron, it's the off-season!  What's a little innuendo and intrigue when we are still 7 1/2 months away from the next game!   ;D :D ;D :D ;)

In fact, one strategically placed rumor might tip the scales to Trinity on a great RB or QB! :)   ;D   :D

Or you football fans can come over to some D3 Baseball!  ;)

Coach Fred is a graduate of SWT, umm Tx State.  Lot different in D1 AA, although I think he would do an outstanding job.  I had a coaching friend tell me that Baylor University's football team has never been the same since Coach Fred left there.
