It would be nice if the Texas teams didn't have to play each other right off the bat.  HSU and UMHB playing in the first round was ridiculous.  Let's hope 07 doesn't have the same pairings.

According to the HSU website, the Cowboys have replaced UW-Stevens Point on their 2007 schedule with another WIAC school--UW-LaCrosse.  The Eagles won a playoff game last year, and played UW-Whitewater as close as anybody did.  They peaked in the D3 poll last year at #6.

With this game, the conference slate and the return game against Linfield, I'll be bold enough to suggest that HSU may have the toughest schedule in the country this next year--three potential playoff teams on the schedule in UW-LAX, Linfield and UMHB.  Even if they don't, I still give major props to HSU for scheduling tough non-conference opponents.  Wish some of the other solid programs in the midwest and the east would do the same thing....

Josh, with the move to opponents' opponents' record, playing WIAC teams that you think that you can beat may be a good tactic.

HUS's Pool C bid last year was the result of good scheudling, IMHO.

I thought that was just for basketball, Ralph.

Josh, I think that the Championships committee had proposed this across all championships.

Corrections appreciated. :)

I dunno--which is why I ask.

I think the QOWI would work fine for football, if they got rid of the "in region" criteria.  Just calculate it based on all D3 competition.  Doing that would eliminate the "Wesley Effect".

Basketball is a much different animal, though, due to the larger number of schools that participate.  I can certainly see why folks think the proposed change would be beneficial, there.

I can't seem to find any information on the subject going back through the threads, though.  If someone could point me in the right direction, it would be most appreciated.

I think Wesley has proven that they can beat any team in the south the last two years. So the only thing that has effected the south is the committee. Although using a QOWI isn't a bad concept in a short season a three loss team could be picked over an undefeated team.. Not a good thing

I'm not knocking Wesley's performance or ability--I am knocking their scheduling.  Five "in-region" games for a team located where they are is pretty sad.  Their independent status keeps their QOWI from being affected by much weaker teams in their "conference", essentially circumventing the "system"--since the "system" is all based regionally.

I'm not suggesting that they haven't done good things with their program the last couple of years, but if all DIII competition were taken into account, their QOWI certainly wouldn't be significantly higher than everybody else's at the end of the season.

It has been stated time and again that Wesley would play more games if teams would indeed play them. As of today they have only 9 games lined up for next year.
Waynesburg backed out of the two tear deal to play a new conference team and Chowan also dropped them which doesn't matter region wise but only gives them 9. Brockports is in conference and yet not region. They have added Widener and Del Val. They still have Morrisville who may or may not join the conference and  New Port News is a non D3 member. So other than bussing to Wisconsin or Texas there aren't too many local teams willing to play Wesley. They have traveled far and wide over they years to get games so don't tell me they intentionally pad the schedule. They have regularly played N.J. teams over the years.

Wesley joins the Capitol Conference next year in all sports sans football although there are wispers that one or two of those school are adding football along with Gallaudet who is just rejoining D3 football this year again. But that would not be a good fit right now I would imagine.

Pa_wesleyfan, I can see the Capital AC earning an AQ in 2010.

Salisbury, Wesley, Gallaudet, New program #1, New program #2 as full members.

Affiliates--Frostburg, Brockport, SUNY Maritime, Apprentice Newport News.

Let's say that five programs of the CAC are playing football in 2008  by adding those affiliates to get up to at least 7 full NCAA D3 members.  (Remember that Apprentice doesn't count as a full member, but stats against them are official, as I understand it.)

I know that the NJAC is romancing Morrisville but they are heavily sheduled in the ACFC again this year so maybe they will join the ACFC next year. I do know that they are trying to join the SUNY school for other sports so that may be a fit. Of course I am sure the travel questions may push them toward the NJAC.  Morrisville is near  to Syracuse so travel is a concern.  Dover and Salisbury are probably 7 and 8 hrs trips and NNA is at least 4 more than that. I know Brockport does it  and they are farther yet.
