I agree that Welch fits UMHB's program better than he would fit in anywhere else. Its hard to say who the most impressive QB is, since there is a plethora of talent at that position in this pass happy conference.

So Ill take the wins and the rings....

Will the asc ever get over the hype of Will Galusha and Jordan Neal. Dont get me wrong by any stretch of the imagination. Jordan Neal was a tremendous football player who will go down as one of the greatest qb's i have watched when it comes to fundamentals and reading a defense. Will Galusha is another great athlete who i thought though was a much better player on the defense side of the ball. He showed no fear was no afraid to try for the pick and i would pick will as an all american any day as a defensive back before i would him over say Brandon Talbort(talbert) from HPU. They were tremendous athletes but now its like everybody continues to talk about them. WHy dont people talk about current players  like the linebacker from UMHB or HSU.

I really wanna get into a conversation with somebody about Sul Ross. I think straight up they have the rawest talent just really no team work/ discipline.

another thing .. are there any TLU followers of LC followers on here becuase ive never really seen to much talk about them besides when coach mueller resigned. A trainer from HSU just signed to TLU a GA signed with TLU and HSU's First linebacker coach this semester left HSU for TLU so maybe they know something we dont?

Winning games especially as a QB is what brings on individual honors. Example LC QB one or two years ago lead the nation in all purpose yards as a senior, LC went 4-6 He got no conference, region or all-American awards. More than any other position on a football team the QB, much like the coach is ultimately evaluated by wins and losses.

TLU is experiencing success early in their 42-14 win over Univeristy of Mexico at Chihuahua in front of 22,400 people.  Now , with the new coaching staff at TLU hopefully this will give them the boost they need to compete in the ASC without giving them a "bighead".  New TLU Head Coach Dennis Parker is no stranger to football in Texas.  One of his best friends is Coach Jack Welch of Copperas Cove High School who has had some very good things to say about Coach Parkert.  Coach Mueller revived a program that was heading south fast and felt it was his time to to step aside.  The TLU football program is finally creating a reputation for quality since Coach Mueller took over and Coach Parker is off to a great start!

The true test for these 2007 Bulldogs will be how they compete against UMHB, HSU and Trinity.  My prediction is with the wholesale change in the coaching staff at TLU I see a very successful season ahead for TLU.  We probably won't get a ring but we will go 6-3 at worst.

Some good-natured off-season chain-pulling...

Only 6-3?  Which game gets knocked out because of a hurricane or lightning?   ???   ;)

SR97, I think you underestimate Welch.  He has been in the playoffs every year he has been at UMHB and won games.  His freshman year, UMHB advanced because he played great, including his passing.  I'm not sure the other QBs in the conference could take his place at UMHB.  Wins are what count in the long run and he has plenty of them.
Wins are the ultimate stat tallied when looking at a person's career and yes UMHB has a lot recently.  I don't underestimate him, I just don't think he has too hard of a job.  Hand off or pitch.  I think pretty much any starting QB in the ASC could lead UMHB to the playoffs with the surrounding talent they would have.  So any QB would have the wins and the rings.  The question was who do I think should be all-conference and sure he'll get a nod.  But if I had a choice of QB's to build a so called "ASC Dream Team", Welch is about 5 or 6 on my list.  That's all I was saying.  He's perfect for UMHB.  And by the way, Davidson ran the option in high school, so he might give Welch a run for his money.  (It's a fact and a Sul Ross plug all at the same time  :))

Amen!  I don't care who the QB is if I'm winning rings.

I just can't put much stock in a blow-out over a team from Mexico.  The Mexican teams NEVER keep these games close, so they mean nothing to me.  It's a great experience for the guys who get to travel, but the score is pointless.  I just can't see TLU being better than last year, especially with a new coaching staff.  Overall, I say they drop off a little without Trahan.  Just my two cents...

Well I am the man to talk to about that.  I see it all first hand.  We have excellent talent.  Great coaching.  A great scheme.  Ultimately, we can't keep kids out here long enough to have a team that gels.  This year could be different.  There are a lot of people back and that's not the norm out here.  (There.  I started it.  Now we can converse.  ;))

I'm glad that SRSU was able to find a 10th game!  (TLU a second time!)

It's nice to get to play 10, but 6 road games will be tough.  We'll see the new TLU first time out.  I'm dreading the heat of 4 of our first 5 games though.  @TLU at 2, @SAGU at noon, @UMHB at 1, ETBU at 3:30, @ HPU at 1.  The heat at these kickoffs will be awful.  I may be down to 280 by mid-season.  Ha ha.  Not that that's a bad thing.

SR97

Forgot to mention that our game @ Howard Payne 2 years ago kicked off at 1.  I haven't played in a hotter game, heck, I haven't been that hot in my life.  I thought my cleats were melted to my feet and the bottom of them melted to the turf.

HSWho2007

That's no lie. I swear Brownwood turns the wind off when visiting teams roll into town.

SR97 six road games is tough, but it can be an advantage for the team to spend more time together and gel. I know that in '04 when UMHB had 9 road games before the Stagg, going on the road and staying in a hotel was just part of the game day process. At least your tenth wasn't in Mississippi  :D

SR97

You're right.  The wind had to be blowing north at 0.00 MPH.

I hope our road games do exactly that and bring us together.  We have a great core of people back who can pull the new guys in with us and make us that better of a team. And thank God we got to La. College Week 9 and host MC Week 10.  Last two years game 10 has been La. College and MC, respectively.  And those trips are from Alpine.  I would much prefer those trips leaving from Belton rather than practically Mexico.  But that's the way it goes.  And if 6 road games can lead to a trip to the Stagg, that's fine.  I'd play 16 on the road for a National Championship.
