I think it would be kinda cool if the HSU-MCM game adopted a charity to benefit, too.  It wouldn't matter necessarily which one, but the idea is great.   Maybe Ralph and I could help make this happen....

Kudos to MC and Millsaps for their spirit of community involvement.

Josh, the January basketball game is the Kiwanis' charity event.  By the time that McMurry and HSU are playing football,  (the latter more adeptly than the former   :-\ ) high school football is in full swing, and so it may be harder to mobilize volunteers than mid to late January, when everyone is trying to get into a routine.

I was just thinking about each school maybe donating a percentage of the gate or something like that...and of course getting the local media outlets involved to promote the thing to get folks out to the stadium.

From a volunteer standpoint, if they're needed, it could be a good service learning project for the students at each school, too....

Josh,  you have a great idea there.  It would certainly add to the rivalry, in a friendly way.  I hope you can prevail on the leaders at each institution to take a look at your idea.  How about if the game where the same weekend as Cooper - Abilene High?

Chris:

Love the photo, though it creates pressure to make lots of Michael Vick jokes.

The best part is the look on the kids' faces.  It's a mix between, "Cool, I'm gonna be the man on this poster...I just hope this dog doesn't pee on me."

I think everyone deemed the photo shoot a success when it was over and the dogs had not marked their territory. I'm sure their will be the obvious comparisons to the Vick situation which is just unbelievable. So far the press coverage has been excellent locally which is good for the game and more importantly for the shelter. Game night should be a great atmosphere with what should be a packed house and all the dogs at the gate. Its a win-win for everyone involved.

#11 in the preseason poll is a respectable decision by the voters.  Can't really complain, being we are the only 8-2 team in the top 20 and we have been booted in the first round the past few years.  Hopefully we can put something together this year.  Huge hole on offense to fill and we will see who steps up and fills it in.  Almost like a Brett Elliott type QB being replaced in Abilene this fall.  Well Goodluck to all teams and it would be nice for the Cowboys to regain the crown again!!!

Minni, HSU was one lightning storm away from 9-2.

#11 makes sense.

Carry the conference banner! Two non-conference in-region wins will go far!

Ya, this comment caught my eye as well.  As a UWW fan and someone who has had the pleasure of watching Elliott play in person in the greatest game I have ever witnessed, (Linfield/UWW, 05 for West Region Championship,) I don't believe that there are many, if any, D-3 QB's that can come close to him.   In fact, there are plenty of D-1 QB's that couldn't come close.  He was amazing!!!

And don't the Indians let the Lions Club of Abilene make money off one of the early (maybe the home opener?) games?  Let's take this a step further, and let McM and H-SU have homecoming the SAME weekend, and play the game at Shotwell, with a charitable twist to it?

Sorry I've been out for a while. . . seeking justice and all that.  Amen to what Josh B. said about just being glad H-S U doesn't have to watch Josh Kubiak play up close and personal anymore!!
