When is all the talk about UMHB-HSU going to start?  I miss the passion.  :D :D
I don't know if the pregame chatter will reach normal levels due to the fact that this is the first year in quite a while in which one team is the clear underdog. I am sure the HSU faithful will be out in full force should they pull the upset.

I am not sure what HSU's chances are this weekend, but let me play devil's advocate for a minute. For comparison sake, UMHB and MC have two common opponents this year, McMurry and Texas Lutheran. The Choctaws outscored those two teams a combined 63-11 in the first half when the game was still competitive. The Cru outscored them 47-3. The Cru went on to dominate the second half 62-16 while MC outscored them 18-8. I attended those MC games and can attest they switched gears in the second half and ran the ball, killing the clock.

Plus, I don't know how impressive the Christopher Newport win is now in hindsight. Thus far, it would seem they were overrated.

I am not suggesting UMHB is overrated, I know they are loaded this year, but have they played a quality opponent yet? I think they still have something to prove. For Hardin-Simmons' sake, I hope they have not been on cruise control waiting for this game.

Chris Brooks, I agree with your assessment of the game.  As it has in years past, I think defense will be the key to the outcome.  If HSU can handle the defensive pressure, they have a great chance.  UMHB's speed has been difficult for them the past few games.  If HSU can stop UMHB's running game, then they have a chance.  Turnovers have been huge in the previous games and I'm sure that will be the case on Saturday.  Wish I could be there to see it.

This is my first time posting on the football board. I have gone from an Augustana Aunt to a UMHB Mom.  It was fun to pull up the top 25 and see the Cru ranked 2nd. Hi Ralph, sorry about the game last weekend. I'm just starting to get the idea that UMHB has a strong football program. I guess with a daughter at the school, football just wasn't on my radar.

Should be a great game this weekend with HS.

Josh, Keith, and whomever else may come

look for me saturday.  I'm hopefully going to be wearing a purple t-shirt with MHB8904 on the back, and i'll definitely be on the visitor's side with kids in tow.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Welcome, armywife!

Hope you can get back stateside soon.

As for football, ASC football is like CCIW Hoops.  ;)

To put Patrick Oliver's contributions in perspective, UMHB QB Josh Welch's stats read:

46-24-3 for 457 yds and 10 TDs for a passing efficiency of 194.32

Patrick Oliver's stats read:

8 completions for 183 yds and 7 TD's

Subtract those numbers out of Welch's totals and we have

38-16-3 for 274 yds and 3 Td's or a passing efficiency of 113.0.

(Corrections appreciated.) :)

I really wonder if Mr Drennan even knows where Coach Teaff played his college ball or that he was the youngest head coach of a 4-year institution in the country.  :(

With "google" the failure to do adequate background research on any subject is inexcusable.  (Maybe those facts were not pertinent to the story.)

Thanks Josh and Ralph, it's good to be on the football board. What a great way to stay current with what is happening with UMHB sports.  I really enjoyed walking around campus this summer, it's a beautiful place. One of these days I need to see McMurry. I'm sure it's a beautiful campus as well.

8 catches and 183 yards 7tds...hmmmm....if those stats are correct then the cru should definately be throwing the ball his way a lot more.....umhb has not been known for their passing in the past years and with 7td's he has to be close to a school record 4 games into the season...
