From what I was told he made the decision before the season and was waiting for the right time to tell the players.  I think his wife was offered a job that she couldn't pass up and he put his family before his career.  You have to respect a man for that.

I would think he would keep most of the coaching staff together unless he has some different views about what direction he wants the team headed.  He definitely has his hands full with a lot of key players leaving due to graduation.

I know that the polls have no impact on the actual seeding, I just don't understand how the regional rankings have us that low. I can understand that W&J and Muhlenberg are both undefeated so its hard to say that a team with a loss is better than them. But Wesley lost to a team that did not even make the playoffs and had a few other close games and we lost to a team that is one of the best teams in the country and destroyed everyone else.

Bill McCabe

crufootball, I agree with you.  It is hard to understand how you go from #2 in the country to a #4 seed in your region.  The only loss was to the #3, now #2, team in the country.  I realize different criteria are used, but it is hard to fathom.   ???

Maybe the Cru will have a slight chip on their shoulder during the playoffs!!!

I keep looking for information about how UMHB will do against Trinity, but all I see here is boo hooing about your seed.  The cream will rise to the top, and I expect UMHB to be there at least till the region final.  So, how 'bout it, how does your team match up with Trinity?

That's what I as a Mount Union fan am afraid of!

Also, with the rankings, all losses are treated equally.  The difference in them comes from the OWP and the OOWP.  Now I don't know how all those numbers work our, but that's where a piece of it comes in.  Also, the margin of victory doesn't make a difference in the numbers either.  A 55 point win over Mount Union would be treated the same way in the rankings as a 1 point win over Averett or some other winless team.  Obviously the numbers for OWP and OOWP would be a little different, but the wins are treated as equal.  Same thing as if a team had lost by 1 point to Mount Union and had been blown out by Averett.

Granted, there's a bunch of other numbers that come in to play, but these are the ones that seem to weigh more heavily on the rankings.

It most likely comes down to the numbers (OWP, OOWP), as to why why Wesley was ranked ahead of UMHB. Wesley also beat three teams that are in the field of 32 and the team that they lost to by a point finished 8-2. Granted, Whitewater is a lot better than Montclair State.
It's also hard to put them in front of unbeaten teams W&J and Muhlenberg. They simply haven't lost. Look at Case Western getting the number 2 seed in the North and Curry the three seed in the East.
The only thing the Cru really loses is a home game in the second round. The bracket still puts the two "power" teams of the last two seasons on opposite sides of the bracket . If the bracket holds and there are no upsets (and I'm not saying there won't be), would you rather come to Dover in the second round or the regional final?

Well the link was taken off our page today so maybe the game is off

Ralph Turner

dballa, who does HPU play in non-conference next season?

dballa

Ralph I'm not real sure, I'll have to ask around and let you know what I find out.

I'm hoping it's not another couple of NAIA losses :)

I saw someone else post that the page had been taken down, and that answers one question for me.  There was a short story, probably a wire service piece, on the guy from Sul Ross that is 59 and playing this year.  They mentioned in the piece that this coming Saturday was going to be his last game, but in my pre-coffee stupor I couldn't figure out what game they'd be playing.  I was just impressed that it actually got a little coverage all the way up here in NC.  Maybe having to DIII teams in the city helped raise the attention of it.

TigerDad

I would like to encourage the UMH-B Crusaders and their fans to continue to look as far down the playoff bracket as possible.  Perhaps you can spend this week planning your attack on Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl.  Buy your airline tickets!

See y'all on Saturday!   ;)
Trinity Tiger Football ... where champions compete on and off the field.

I bet HSU would take a #8 ranking right now to just be able to strap it on one more week.  Just hope UMHB remembers this as they step out of the field on Saturday, especially the seniors.  It could be the very last time they get to lace em up and strap em on.  Good luck guys represent the conference well.

yessir,

where did y'all stay in abilene?  There are some pretty nice hotels close to campus, I'd hate to think y'all stayed at one of the dumps near campus.   ;D

I'm not sure of the name. It's the same Hotel that UMHB had stayed at since traveling to Abilene. It had always been a nice hotel until that year. I think it changed names. It was pretty bad. There were guys sleeping on cots because they overbooked the hotel, not to mention several of the rooms were not cleaned whenever we arrived. Then the head cook didn't show up for breakfast on saturday morning and Coach Fred and some other coaches had to assist them with preparing breakfast. Then the syrup was all dried up, similar to hard candy. LOL That teamed with a week full of rainy practices. We were worried about distractions, but they didn't affect our play, if anything it made us stronger. Needless to say, the next trip to Abilene we stayed in a different Hotel. Good luck to UMHB this week. Make us proud!!
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

Congrats to UMHB for destroying the Conference! I just hope they represent the conference well and get to the stagg bowl not only for themselves but to strengthen the asc. What about MC? Did a weak non-conf scedule hurt them? Congrats to HSU for winning the track meet and keeping the Wilford Trophy! The offense for HSU hasn't missed a beat and that's huge. Hopefully MCM will win one of those games to call it a rivarly. I believe HSU will get a few pieces for the defense(they always do) to help that 0! Now finding a running back like Quinton Jones will be hard, but Quinton proved people wrong when they said it was going to be hard to find someone just as good as Lance Moore. Who knows. That O-line is so good that they will keep the offense and running game in good standards. If HSU doesn't find some pieces for the d, i think changing what they do will help. The d they run leaves the db's(especially the corners) in more a man to man, and at this moment they just don't have that strength. But I do believe they will at least go 8-2 next year. I'm anxious to find out who Coach K will replace for the Linfield game. I think they should try to play Trinity if that's possible! That would be interesting instead of trinity playing tlu or the old asc kangaroos. Good Luck to UMHB!!!
