Congrats to Jordan Neal, anybody know how well he did in his after college career? I heard he did pretty good but just wondering ???

Toby Taff

Jordon went to Sweden and played football in Malma last spring - fall and he led his team to the championship.  He also got married during that time and got to coach for the Malma teams.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Are you sure it is the Offensive Coordinator position?

That seems a little odd for a college program to hire an inexperienced coach to be the OC.

Just looked it up on the HPU website and saw it to be true.

Still a little odd to me though.  Nothing against Neal, but I think it just takes more experience to get a position like that.

Major Applewhite former UT quarterback, 29 I think, is the offensive coordinator and QB coach for Alabama.

I think if you have a lot of experience playing at the college level, especially at the QB position, then you have a lot of experience in being able to run an offense as a coach.  Jordan Neal was a great athlete and a smart one who will do well as an OC no matter how early on it will be.  I'm excited to see what he can bring to HPU.

Major Applewhite was also a quarterbacks coach at UT for a few years after he finished playing.

I don't think it matters how much you play at the college level, (even QB) because coaching and playing are two completely different entities as far as the mental aspect of the game.

If I were Fanara, I would DEFINITELY hire him, I think he has potential to become a great coach.  But I would also hire an older, more experienced coach to bring him up through the ranks, and in 3, 4, 5 years turn the OC over to him.

But I'm not Steve Fanara, I'm sure he has good reasoning to what he is doing.

Congratulations to Neal and I hope he does very well.

I agree it will definitely be a challenge, but I think with his ability to lead a team and his knowledge for the game he should do very well.

HPU may very well struggle on offense next year but that won't be because he's coaching.  They have a lot of holes to fill.  I think it's a great opportunity for him to work from the ground up with a team and try to build it back into one of the top teams in the conference.

we also can't forget another HSU player now coaching for HPU.  Lance Unger is the Offensive Line Coach.

If I'm not mistaken, part of his job in sweden was being the OC.  Hiring Jordan could also be a boon to area recruiting.  Jordan is well liked in the area, was a star at Abilene cooper, a leader in FCA, 6 year leader of HSU...attaching his name to a growing program in the Abilene area is likely to be a good thing.

HPU's web site lists qb coach for the juniors team, so i'll go with that until I can find out for certain.

LSU is up 31-17 and get the fumble return for good field position.

LSU gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of the play.  That penalty ultimately knocks them out of FG position and a 17-point lead

What strategies have you heard of coaches to penalize players who lose their cool like that?  He has tiger spots on the helmet.  Do you rip one of those off for the first stupid mistake like that, and two more for the second and leave the vacancy on the helmet for all to see that he had one taken away?

There is no player who is more important than the team!

We are back to a monkey-stomp, LSU 38, OSU 17.

If the Ohio State guy blocks the punt instead of roughing the kicker, we have ourselves an entirely different ballgame.  That was the biggest play of the game.

IMO, Tressel should have punted the ball on 4th and 6 or 7 with ten minutes left to go in the fourth.  Still plenty of time, and for the first time since the beginning of the game, Ohio State had good field position.  Even though the personal fould knocked LSU out of FG range, it still was another huge momentum swinger, and OSU lost that field position battle they had worked for the entire second half.

Oh well, he could have been a hero if they had made it.  Price you pay.
