I think ETBU will do some things very well this weekend.  First I think our offensive line will be pretty solid.  We were ok running the ball last year and with most of those guys seeing significant playing time its an area we have improved on.  The two freshman running backs have also made big strides.  We lacked a serious big play threat last year and we have added one. We have a running back who is not on the two deep but will see some touches for sure.  He is returning kicks and punts and his name is Trevor Cavness.  I think we will have a chance to make some big plays this year and maybe Saturday.  Jari Brooks and Fred Taylor are both receivers that will help the offense.  I know they are listed as 2's but I wouldn't be surprised to see them getting a lot of time.

I am not a coach nor do I have any access to the game plan but I can see us trying to shorten the game by running the ball and doing our best to limit big plays on defense.  George Paongo is probably the most noteworthy addition on that side of the ball.  He is a load at DT.  Our defensive line is one of the strong points of our team.  I think we will be solid in the kicking game as well.

Ill also say this.  Coach Sartain did not schedule this game for experience or for a nice travel trip.  He scheduled it because he thought they would have a chance to compete and to win.  You wont ever catch me thinking ETBU does not have a chance to win.  Call me a homer or whatever, thats who I am.

For the over confidence bit that was just a little board give and take.  I don't think either team reads these forums or will be too overconfident taking the field.

Interesting news from the UMHB website:   :)

They left out a word designating exactly how many players have been asked to blog.

For those interested, I just posted a preview of the Johnnie defense at www.JohnnieFootball.com.  We already have our ETBU preview posted and will have more content tomorrow as well as game predictions Saturday morning.

alum, the more I think about it, the more convinced I am that the Johnnie defensive line is going to absolutely own souls this year.  You better hope your offensive line is more than pretty solid.

I'll be interested to see what Jari Brooks, the 6-5 transfer receiver for the Tigers looks like.  I think the Johnnies'll be weak in the secondary.  The supposed starting CBs for the Johnnies are 5-9 and 5-10 and could have a lot of trouble with the big Tigers receivers.  I just don't think it's going to matter, unless ETBU perfecting a passing game built around half step drops.

I have no idea what the Johnnies will be like on offense, so that side of the ball should be interesting for both teams.  It sounds like a transfer from Air Force has pushed his way toward the top of the depth chart at RB.  Could be something to watch.

Trinity will again endeavor to do live audio and video streams of ALL games this season.  Check the TU football website for links...  Dr Ralph Turner has agreed to join Jonny Wiener in the booth as a guest for the TU v McM game at 6pm central Saturday from San Antonio.

I noticed that UMHB has very few starters returning, compared to years past. This appears to be most prevalent on offense. Does anyone have any opinion regarding someone else possibly winning the league this year? It just appears to me, that umhb might be BIT down, and that maybe MC or even HSU might be able to sneak out a title. I know this would be a long shot,  but I thought maybe IF IT COULD BE DONE, this might be the year? nonetheless, UMHB still is a heavy favorite, I guess.

I think you are on the money and ETBU will have to be very good up front to give time to find those receivers.  I will say our offense is not built on 5 and 7 step drops and ideally the ball would be away quickly.  That has not always been the case.  I think that was more on our QBs than the offense.  Osh is young but looks really good at times so we will see.  Hopefully the receivers will be able to cover up some of the mistakes he will most likely make this year.  That being said if St John's shuts down the run we are in trouble.

Actually, Hansel is the backup quarterback.  And with ~158 folks on the roster I wouldn't be surprised if Gretel were an 8th string kicker or something...

No, but really: if anyone makes the trip up and has some time to kill before the game, please stop by the 'festivites.  You won't be disappointed!

TC,  What is your sense on how the game goes tomorrow?

ritz72

bill and alum---

Im going to agree with TC in the fact that the key match up tomorrow is in your olines ability to do things against our d line.  If your boys aren't fast and aggressive, they are going to be in for a LONG day as our two deeps on the line and at LB are all very quick and aggressive..Looking at the height and weight of some of your boys on the oline, quickness is not something I see...

Not to sound arrogant, but fans of your program is looking at this game as a chance to get some attention and get your program rolling in the right direction, and a large majority of SJU fans are simply looking at this game as a schedule filler.

While I do not think this game will be a laugher (SJU has been known to have games get in the 60-14 range) with the number of seemingly decent athletes on the team, I do expect SJU to win quite comfortably.  My prediction on www.johnniefootball.com is 48-17.  Granted, the game may still be in doubt at half, but with how badly ETBU has been outscored in the 2nd half, especially last year (outscored 159-64 in the 2nd half),  equates into trouble as the SJU's coaches are very good at making adjustments and capitalizing on them in the 2nd half.

Safe travels to any and all who are planning on making the trip to Collegeville, and please stop by the pre-game in the south Science Lot over looking the field starting at 9:00 for the best hamburger you will ever taste!

Hmm ... DIIIwatcher (or all his posts) seem to have vanished into thin air ...

It the curse that is levied upon all who invoke the moniker "mister" when referring to my posts!  Kinda like the Curse of the Pharohs, only much less sinister.   ;)

Temporary problems with my profile.  Post were removed because their meaning was being misrepresented.
Only wanted to bring attention that ETBU is much more athletic and a better team than they were last year.  No need to post again until some actual football was played. St. Johns definitely saw that today. Seven point game with ETBU driving in Johnnie territory in the last minute until a costly pic-6 sealed it for St. Johns. Looking forward to seeing what the Tigers will accomplish the rest of the year.
