My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I am glad I did not pay for the viscious beat-down I knew UMHB would bring.  I am encouraged that TLU at least put 7 points on the board.  When will TLU learn to spend the money for coaches with stellar winning recors and not coaches who are friends of the university.  This is discouraging.  At least UMHB searched hard and found a high quality coach in Fred and was willing to pay for a coach that can produce results.

Did TLU look as bad as the score shows?

Ok ralph, but going back and forth on a phone is a pain

No need to go back and forth, just post in-game updates there.
Pat Sorry about the confusion, I read the above post  ". . . updates here"  That's why I continued.

The TLU passing game looked good, partially because of some bad play by the UMHB DB's, partially because of some well run routes and a strong arm on the QB.  Truthfully it looked like a competitive game when TLU was on offense.  That was not the case with TLU on defense.  UMHB ran on them at will (not that that is a new thing, but Matt Hurst averaged 13.3 yds/ carry 14 carries for 186 yds)  UMHB had 437 yds on 59 carries on the ground, and that doesn't take into account the long runs called back for penalties.  On the bright side TLU put up 380 yds on UMHB, and rushed for over 100 as a team, something that doesn't happen much.

My favorite quote from the Temple Daily Telegram article about the UMHB - TLU game:

The Crusaders (2-0) rushed for 437 yards, ripping through the Bulldogs (1-2) with a combination of effective option plays and powerful dives up the middle.

"It wouldn't have mattered if they'd have had my wife back there because we couldn't tackle anybody," TLU coach Dennis Parker said. "It didn't matter who they put back there because we couldn't tackle anybody they had.

"Even at the end of the game, when they had their JV in there, we couldn't tackle them."

The article does say the preliminary call on Daniels is torn ACL & MCL.   :P

Toby,

I addressed the pass defense as well on the Update Board.  I am copying that post below;

I think this also goes to my post on the ASC thread about the lack of success rushing against UMHB.  I went back through the play by play summary and between 80-85% of TLU's 72 total plays were pass attempts (counting sacks and QB scrambles).  If you are worth a lick as a passing team (and I think TLU is) you are going to complete a fair number of passes against anyone.  I was at the game to and I saw a lot of underneath routes and a lot of fade routes by TLU.  I think you were probably referring to the fades and some of those were just good plays by TLU.  Don't get me wrong, I saw some people open like you did but I am not sure it was all that bad.

I think we sometimes just forget how many passes the secondary has to defend against each game!

Looks like we passed each other in our posts.  I just saw your reply on the other board.  ;) ;D

Man I wish TLUGoat was still on the board.......

Great game by the Cru.....total domination. Score should of been 63-0 but a huge miscommunication left a TLU wide receiver totally uncovered on a short yardage play which led to the score....I found it amusing that right after the play TLU got a little pumped up on their ensuing kickoff. The Cru ran all over the Dogs, they had no answer for anyone running the ball as the TLU Head Coach stated. Hurst had a heck of a game....as well as the O-line. My condolences go out to Quincy...I know he worked his tail off this summer preparing to have a great year. My prayers are with ya man.....The Cru D played pretty good.....bending but not breaking. I seen countless holds that were not called....particularly No. 64 for TLU. He had no answer for Mark Manning other than a handful of jersey. Adam Aguilera  had a heck of a game....good to see him on defense....sucks it took 3 years to get him there (I feel your pain). He should have a great season. Special teams were a joy to watch....I've always thought UMHB's special teams have been what separated them from the rest of the conference...from blocked kicks...punts downed inside the 20...to run backs......the special teams were really impressive...specially with it being so early in the season. I wish there would have been less penalties but that's understandable for the second game.  All in all the Cru are exactly what they've been for the last 6 seasons....DOMINATE. Look forward to seeing all the games this year. Also found it funny that ex kicker Joel Munoz got a chance to kick a 25-yard field goal at halftime....gotta love free Chick-Fil-a. It was great to see some old friends...we should get together more often. Good luck this week Cru....gonna try to make it to Abilene...got a truck show in San Angelo so the game might be the "Night Time" entertainment. Good luck!!!
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

While looking through the TLU site I found this picture of Quincy Daniels lone carry.  Knees shouldn't bend like that.  Am I right Dr. Turner?
