I personally think in the 12-17 range is right for HSU.

I think a lot of the voters in the DIII poll are A) remembering how awful the HSU defense was last year and B) seeing that the Cowboys haven't won their first four games this year by wide margins.

What the voters in the this site's poll are discounting too drastically, IMO, is that HSU has played arguably the two toughest non-conference games of any team in the in the country and are in the third of a three-game stretch against the best three teams in the ASC.

IF the Cowboys win this weekend, however, it's my opinion that they should get a bump into the top 10.  What more could be asked of them at this point in the season?

very well said josh!! This is a great accomplishment for Coach Keeling, showing his ability to get a team back on track and hiring coaches that can do a great job!! This weekend is going to be exciting for both schools!

Does anyone know of Quincy Daniels progress?  Is he eligible for a medical redshirt/another year of eligibility?
Thank you for the  help!

nice quote by coach Fredenburg:

"When we started this program, everything we did was based on measuring up to Hardin-Simmons," Cru head coach Pete Fredenburg said. "This is one of those things that you really enjoy about football. These are the kinds of games that you want to play and coach in. They are so prolific on offense that you have to be concerned about containing them."

Well, they are ranked comfortably to significantly ahead of all the teams they didn't beat by wide margins, so it can be said that this is all they've proven so far.

You know Pat, there are times when it's OK for people to criticize the poll, especially when it's done in a non-emotional, thoughtful way.

Just because the site supports the poll doesn't mean that it or the voters are above reproach.

Josh,

I think I laid out actual facts myself, not emotions. Surely I am allowed to do so even if you don't like it.

Two thoughts concerning the poll.

1) The earlier the poll, the more it's just a guess anyway...and the season is only what, halfway through?

2) Since D3 actually has a playoff, the poll isn't anywhere near as important as in D1 (at least from my perspective).

Josh,

I don't know about HSU playing the hardest non-conference schedule in the country.  That might be a bit of stretch.  Delaware Valley has played Iona, Wesley and Salisbury.  St. John Fisher opened with Mt. Union.  Just a couple of examples of schedules that might be a little more challenging.  Wisconsin-La Crosse hasn't won a game and will probably lose this weekend.  Linfield is 1-1.

Pat i see in the polls on week 3 where franklin jumped a few spots in the poll after a "narrow" victory in week 2. not sure your arguement holds alot of water here. I think everyone here understands and knows that because D3 has a playoff system the polls aren't as important. I'm curious how a team with only two games played and one win is even in the top 25. i'm looking forward to the game this weekend should be a good matchup between to very good football teams. no matter who wins t his week my theory is these teams will see each other at the end of the season come playoff time. good luck to both teams i hope we see an injury free game.

Bill,

In some aspects josh is right HSU played two very good football teams early in the season.

The Temple-Telegram has a good story about UMHB sophomore starting LB Ben Beckworth and his HSU receiver Step-brother Zavious Robbins in todays edition.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Or UMHB is just so good that they can blow out any opponent in the conference by 3 TD's.

I follow two indexes that begin to get some credibility about four-five games into the season.  (This is the fifth weekend in D-3 and the sixth in the other classifications.)

Lazindex has UMHB at #207, with a "power" of 79.19, in the realm of D1-AA's.  That is 3rd among D-III's.

Bornpowerindex has UMHB slotted at 60.7, higher than Tarleton, SF Austin, Texas State-San Marcos and UNT.

Hope HSU Packs a Lunch, cause its gonna be an all day a** whoopin from the CRU.  Ring fingers are getting heavy in Belton!!  I already hear key jingling!!  UMHB's former rival HSU will be going back to Abilene with thier tales tucked between thier legs.  Get ready, its gonna be ugly, all I gotta say is 46 and 47, POWDER RIVER FOOTBALL from the CRU, (thats right POWDER, look it up, its an old mining term i believe)
