maybe with these really good athletes out of the UMHB lineup, Fredenburg felt he had to run the QB so much last week? Any comments on this?

etbualum

etbualum,
    How has etbu been able to run the ball with so much success? I noticed that the O-Line seems to be quite small (tall, but light weight) at the tackle spots.

I think we will do our best to run Saturday, but the one time we faced a much bigger d-line we didn't fair to well...see st john's.  We probably average 40 attempts per game while we only took 22 in the first game.  We pretty much had to abandon the run up there.  I would imagine the Johnny fans will tell you the strength of their team is the dline.  That being said we have played the bottom of the ASC so far and while our backs are solid we haven't been pushed yet.  It will be a nice test this weekend even though LC is the only team that didn't run the ball well against HSU.
Trevor Cavness got hurt early in the first quarter of the Sul Ross game and he is a very explosive back and returner.  I doubt he will be back this week, but when he does come back it will help.
The single biggest factor in us being able to win this weekend will be consistency in the passing game.  It will make the running way more effective.  We have seen the box packed the last two weeks with both teams daring us to pass.  That was what happened late in the game against MCM when George broke a couple tackles and went 80 yards for a touchdown.

Limit big plays, avoid turnovers, have consistency in the passing game= finally an ETBU victory over HSU.
You can pretty much say that about any football game so we will see Saturday.

What is the tailgating like at HSU? I am going to be making my first trip to Abilene anything I need to know?

The temple daily telegram reports the Quincy Daniels may be back before the end of the regular season, and that Pi'Dadro Davis has a high ankle sprain and will be out for a while.  Here's the link:

Good news, that Daniels could be back for Cru fans. Interesting call though, do you take the medical redshirt this year or try to come back for the last couple weeks and a playoff run? Guess it would depend how Quincy feels in a few weeks.

I do have to take issue with Coach Fred on this comment, “Historically, the Pool B teams that have gotten in haven’t represented very well, consistently."

Wesley has been a Pool B team the last three years and the have eight win playoff wins. He could be right though, can anyone think of any other Pool B wins other than Wesley. I know Case Western (Pool B) beat Widener (Pool A) in the first round and Salisbury (Pool B) lost to Muhlenberg (A) last year.

@d3jason

Just thought of another Pool B win. Carnegie-Mellon over Millsaps in '06. I can't remember how Whitworth and W & J did (the two Pool B team aside from Wesley that year,) I think they both lost.

Coach Fred is probably thinking about W&J.  Every time in recent history they see a Texas team in the playoffs, they get pounded.  UMHB did it one year, Trinity another.  I think the only time W&J defeated a Texas team in the playoffs it was 1995, Trinity's first year there - and they pounded Trinity that day.

It is good news to know that Quincy progressing quickly.  I know that the UMHB training staff and doctors will do a great job evaluating his return.  What a exceptional young man.  He is one who represents all things good about student-athelets on the collegiate level.  Honest, hard working, great student, and a humble spirit.  Glad to see him doing well.

With Pi'Dadro Davis, and  Matt Hurst injuries, it will be another opportunity for some of the young players to get some significant playing experience. Any one know of any young guys who may get the call from the JV?  If I remember correctly Quincy had a similar experience.  I wish both Pi'Dadro and Matt a quick and complete recovery.

@d3jason

I remember that W & J team, it end up going to the final four and losing to Rowan. The year before they lost to Albion in the Stagg Bowl.

I remember going to a few Trinity games in Williamsport (my hometown) in the 90's during the playoffs. Seems like it took the Tigers a couple of years break through against Lycoming if I remember right.

Here is another Washington & Jefferson score from Nov. 27, 1999:

Sounds like that's a fond memory.  :D

To be fair, UMHB escaped with a 30-27 win in 2006 ... then got plowed by Wesley.

The Trinity loss was in '94, btw.   Even tho it ended up 28-0 the outcome was never in doubt.

For HSU, but not so much for W&J.
One of the HSU players who worked at my tire store told me that between plays in the second quarter or so, one of the W&J players commented to him, "Man, you guys are kicking the [feces] out of us!"  :D

UMHB record versus Pool B.

2004 -- Beat W&J; Lost to Linfield

2005 -- Lost to Wesley

2006 -- Beat W&J; Lost to Wesley

2007 -- Beat Wesley.

UMHB Record versus Pool B (3-3).

I think there's a big difference in the programs at Wesley and Linfield and W&J.  That gap may have closed a bit this year, but traditionally, the PAC teams (whatever pool they're in) haven't been as strong on the national scene.

Just my humble .02 worth.

Good luck to all the teams this weekend!

But they always had the numbers to get a pick into the system!   :-\

The Pres AC is 7-9 in the playoffs.  (The archives for the previous seasons is temporarily down.  I cannot find the playoff results since 1999 very easily.)
