I'd get your bus ticket ready, if I were you.

For starters, UMHB and Millsaps are the only two schools in the ASC/SCAC mix that can bus to one another without scheduling conference rematches in the first round (or more importantly, the dreaded flight the NCAA would have to pay for).

And, I'm not sure why you think the Crusaders deserve two home games this season.  If they win out, the Crusaders will only be 8-0 in DIII competition, vs. 9-0 for the Majors.  Millsaps has a much more impressive win over a common opponent, though, and UMHB hasn't played anyone outside of the ASC (that counts) to earn any extra brownie points.

I can see UMHB getting a 2 or 3 seed and possibly hosting a second round game against a Trinity/HSU winner (if they beat Millsaps in Jackson), but that's about it right now.  Millsaps, should they win out, will get the 1 or 2 seed (Muhlenberg is likely the only other team in the region that might edge them for that distinction).

No, I wasn't saying we deserve to have a first round this year.  We haven't played as impressively as Millsaps, and our record, if we win out, won't be as strong.  But I think it was last year or the year before, they wouldn't bring Millsaps to us because NCAA said it was too far, so we had to end up playing HSU.

While I hate to say it, UMHB as it is right now, is not the best team in the region.  I'd even go so far as to say if the injury plagued UMHB that played SOU would have been killed by HSU.  Unless some healing happens and rights the ship, the Cru hasa no real claim to anything higher than 2/3 seed
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Keith and I lay out an interesting alternative for UMHB in this week's podcast.

Yes, I have been listening to the podcast as I have been typing.  Traveling to Occidental, though if we are seeded higher nationally should mean they come to us, but whatever, is fine.  I just don't think we should have to play another ASC team until the second round.  If they turn around and make us play HSU or go to Millsaps, then there is a serious problem that needs to be taken care of.

I agree.  We don't deserve the #1 this year, but in times past we have and have had to play a #3 or 4 when we should have played a much lower seed and not had to play HSU.

FWIW, we don't want to play you in the first round, either.   ;)

Even if UMHB loses to ETBU, you still have the tie-breaker against HSU for the Pool A bid.

Right, I know, and not because of the rivalry thing for me, it's for the ASC.  We deserve to have more than one shot at getting further into the playoffs.  If we have to play each other down the line, then bring it, another fight between the two school would be great to watch, but some diversity in the scheduling would be exciting also.

We're on the same page all the way across that board, 2001.  I think if we could ever get away from that pairing, the ASC could represent in the South Region very well.

Pat--RE: your suggestion to move UMHB out west...that would break up Oxy and Willamette (which would be fair), but it causes a lot more flights than the AA has ever been willing to pay for...

Interesting concept, though.

As long as UMHB remains undefeated in the ASC, they should be no lower than a 3 Seed.  A Trinity win might send Millsaps to UMHB and HSU to Trinity.

minni

As an HSU fan right now I say bring on the world.  The guys are playing so well right now and I would love to see them play anyone right now.  No love for the Cowboys in the poll but oh well we shall see how things shake up!!!!

Bill McCabe

If things play out and UMHB, HSU, Trinity and Millsaps are all in the playoffs, I think they will be the Texas Sub bracket.

minni

ok Bill tell us somthing new!!!!

Bill McCabe

minni,  I'm intrigued by what happens if Trinity beats Millsaps.  Does Millsaps still get in?  Would that then set up a UMHB-HSU 1st round?  Is HSU going to Trinity no matter what?

baddog

Bill -- For HSU this is not time for "no matter what." The Cowboys still have two games to play. Yes, they are and should be heavily favored, but as we all know -- anything can happen.

One game at a time, Cowboys. Focus. Hammer down on TLU this coming Saturday. Then focus on beating down McM the next. No matter what.

It has been my general observation that over the last eight years I have been keeping up with UMHB, they have one game a year against an opponent they should beat handily that for whatever reason, they play poorly.  This game might result in a loss (EX. - HPU in 2004) or they play just good enough to win (EX. - ETBU in 2006).

This year that game appeared to have happened last week and with the decimated skill position situation it made it even worse!  While most teams have been honing their game all season, UMHB has played revolving doors with their tailbacks and there is no way their execution could possibly be where it should be for this time of the season.  I hope that they can rebound once again like they have in the past and that in the final few games they can begin to improve their play execution and be ready for the playoffs (whoever they end up playing).

I know that no one is more upset with the results last week than the players and coaches and I feel sure they are working hard to avoid a repeat performance.
