I tip my hat to every one associated with all of the JV teams out there, I believe it goes a long way in making the few teams that have it better. I am not sure of everyone who has them but I am sure that Trinity, UMHB, & HSU do have JV squads. No surprise to me that the are the better programs because they are always preparing the next leader of their teams and getting them playing time.

On my way to the library I noticed that HSU had a JV game going so I stopped by.  They're playing UMHB.  When I got there it was 21 - 2 with 13:00 in the 4th.  When I left to hit the stacks, it was 35 - 2 UMHB with a little over 8 minutes left in the game.

I understand that McMurry JV beat HSU JV about a week ago!   :o
Really.  Good for McM, now if they can just pull it off on Saturday... ;)

Truthfully though, HSU's JV guys are pretty small
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Has HSU put all of their depth in size on the Varsity?  Wow!

etbualum

ETBU has a jv, and so does MC for what its worth.

I think that HPU does as well!  18-year old boys need a couple of years to grow into college ball at many positions!

A kid I worked with a few years ago played jv at HSU and told me some things that may explain the situation. Some of HSU's JV size "problem" late in the season may be due to NCAA regulations that limit participation to 10 games total, including varsity and jv. HSU has gone pretty deep into the roster during varsity games this year. Probably more so during the several recent blow outs. (Hopefully, more will play this coming Saturday.) So, the better and bigger jv players may have seen more jv time early in the season and, perhaps some varsity time too. Later in the season, with the higher-level jv being held out for those reasons, you are left with the smaller size you see.
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

Well, it looks like it will be Bryson Tucker and Matt Hurst in the back field for the Cru this week.  According to the Temple Daily Telegram, Tucker will get the start.  The article also say that the Daniels decision should be made by the end of the week. Apparently the arthroscopic surgery caused swelling that has delayed the decision, but the swelling is going down and a decision to return this season or petition the AA for the medical will be made soon.

Well, here's the link:

Interesting.  So JV players can only play 10 games?  Or is that 10 regular season games irrespective of Varsity or JV?

10 games total per year.

I think ETBU JV only plays 5 or 6.

So with W&J losing and having to hope for Pool C bid, is there a way that HSU, Trinity, W&J, or any other team I am currently forgetting will not get into the playoffs?

Ron Boerger

There's been a lot of discussion of this on other boards, some on the SCAC board, some on the Pool C board, some on the Top 25 board.

HSU should be in with good non-conference wins and only a very narrow loss to UMHB.
Trinity might need a little help because they didn't play anyone outside of the SCAC, and the SCAC isn't exactly a power conference.
W&J - haven't looked into the situation for the perennial Texas punching bag.  But them losing might actually be worse because now they and not Thomas More are in the list of Pool C possibles.

K-Mack said that he will review the possibilities in this week's ATN.  Tomorrow's regional rankings will also give us a good idea.

etbualum,
Seems reports from this weeks game was: that etbu doesnt have any playmakers(gamebreakers) on offense (aka- Jabori Jackson, Earl Morris, Jason Gray, Roshawn Johnson, or even a Andrew Jackson); and the QB play is maybe the worst it has ever been. Any follow up on these observations?

I finally got a chance to watch the mighty HSU Cowboys this past Sat. I have been reading all the spirited boards all year and they finally got close enough to my place to go watch. They did a good job taking it to a much lesser athletic team. However, I did notice some things that could be a concern when they face a better opponent. They are split into 3 qudarents on the field offensively. Plays seemed to be called to these areas and it appears there is never any varancies after the snap. Teams that match them athletically will make this hurt. Something I bet if you watch film that UMHB did against them. I saw many plays Sat. that the back side guys were running free but it was obvious there was a call and it was to be run that way. Maybe they will change in the playoffs. The other thing I noticed was a very well coached disciplined defense. I am trying to take it in context of the opponent but I still thought they did well with assignments and pursuits. Good luck all Texas schools!

Welcome to the boards, simplefan!
