No problem.  I just wanted to make sure because you could have been counting special teams some way.  I don't know.
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Hello all.

I guess its finally time to break my silence now that my team's football season is over.  I have been keeping up a little with the board this year, but not very much.  I was able to go to my first CRU game of the year against Howard Payne.  The CRU looked good in all phases of the game.  Howard Payne had no answer for the power or the option, and I saw UMHB run a little zone read that gave them success as well.  There were a couple of UMHB's drives that were held short on 3rd and short to 3rd and mediums as UMHB tried to open it up and throw a little.  They did not need to, but I'm sure they were working on it for the playoffs.  Tucker looked very comfortable at tailback as did Hearst.  It is a pretty good combination as both have a little different running styles.  Tucker has the speed to get to the outside and the strength to run the power, while Hearst has the strength but also what seemed more of an uncanny ability to make some people miss.

The CRU defense got to the QB quite a few times and did not allow him to complete many passes.  The biggest play HPU had was a pass early for about 35 yards where the ball bounced off of a CRU DB and into his hands.  To his credit, the HPU QB did get out of a few situations to complete a couple passes or at least throw the ball away.

Anyways, it was good to finally get back to a UMHB game, even though I wish I couldn't have cuz that means my team would have been in the playoffs.   :(

Good luck CRU!!!

I saw you and roocru, but didn't get over to say hi.  I was sitting on the same row but in section c with the alumni and family.  Sorry your team isn't still playing, but welcome back to the board.  We look forward to reading your football expertise.  Any thoughts on Quincy Daniels?  Do they seek the medical?  He was on the sideline Saturday in his jersey, but I read that they were making the decision this past week.

A great quote in the Temple Daily Telegram from Coach Pete if you are a fan of the Cru.

"We've found a grove, and we have guys in the right positions," Fredenburg said. "I think we're peaking at the right time."

I thought this was interesting that Coach Fred thinks the Cru is peaking at the right time.

After this weekend what is the most likely playoff situation for HSU?

I'm not right now (other than field goals and extra points), but next year I might change it to include kick/punt returns.

I've been working on a means of quantifying individual player performance for offensive skill positions (a term I really don't like, cuz playing offensive line does require skill), but properly accounting for interceptions and fumbles would be a bear. I don't feel like going through every game's drive chart to find out how many points are scored, on average, off a pick or fumble recovery.

Oh, and Ralph...I'm going to be doing the whole score prediction thing for at least men's basketball too. Maybe women's if I can find the time.

Thanks, dsc. I wish I had time to do all the projects that are bouncing around in my head. Or that I could get a job doing this kind of thing. Maybe someday....  :)

According to the paper today, Q is out, and it looks as though he won't seek the medical red shirt, as this supports what I have heard from his girl friend and others.
Watch out for the wreckingCRU defense!!

I think Coach Fred is right.  This is a good time to be showing signs of improvement and really be getting good.  There are a lot of teams in Texas that "peak" too early and for the last 4 to 5 weeks of the season, never really improve.  I think this can sometimes be the fault of both the players and/or the coaches.  Sometimes it is a multitude of other things.  I know we definitely had this problem with my high school team this year.  However, if you can continue to improve throughout the regular season, usually the playoffs give the players and the coaches a little shot of vigor and new life to start the improvement process over again.  That is when you get REALLY GOOD.  You would always like as a coach for your team to play their best game, win or lose, as your last game.

I read that story this morning, and kind of figured that Q was done, and I think that's probably best.  If he could have played the last few games I think it would have been ok, but to have been out all year and then play in the playoffs, I don't think that's beneficial for anyone.  Anyone shed light on why he won't seek the medical?

Sadly I can think of about 10,000 reasons why Quincy might not be staying.

Would those 10k reason be related to the 20k+ reasons I have as memories to last the next 20 years or so? ;D

I've watched Quincy limp around for 8 weeks now and even talked to him about the possibility of coming back this year. He was optimistic but I just could not see it with the severity of his injury. I am worried about when he would be back healthy for next year since it has been 8 weeks ago he was injured. A knee reconsstruction can take 9-12 months before fully healed. I think that would put the start of the season in jeopardy fo '09.
