Wow, what a game today in Belton.  Two champions going at until the final seconds.  Feaster was incredible and I can see why is was the offensive player of the year.  His TD passes were great throws and he scrambled away from the Cru rush several times.  UMHB was able to put a little pressure on him the 2nd half.

UMHB ran the ball well, but their passing game was huge.  Both defense played well against 2 very good defenses.

In my opinion, the reason UMHB won was because of special teams play.  UMHB completely dominated the kicking game.  Several huge plays for the Cru:
     1.  KO return for a TD
     2.  Roughing the punter by HSU
     3.  Great coverage by the UMHB kicking game had HSU backed up deep several times.  HSU had some long drives in the first half.
     4.  The final KO by HSU gave UMHB great field position after a great return by Hurst.

It is really unfair that these two teams had to play in the first round.  I think both are equal to or better than the Millsaps team I saw play Trinity.

On that note, Feaster is the best QB I've seen play this year.

Josh and I were going over the stats on the ride home.  HSU won  most categories.  So I agree that special teams play was the difference.  If you want to get to specifics, it was the kickoff return for a TD, but those other you listed were also significant.  Bill, you forgot the final field goal.

Hopefully we can all find out!

How could I overlook that play.  ;)  Only one turnover in the game.  HSU and UMHB went to their strengths, but the kicking game was very one sided to UMHB and was the difference.

Truly great game today.  My guys didn't win, but I have to say "hats off to the Crusaders".  Good luck next week.

Josh,  that was the best HSU-UMHB game I've seen.  I thought Neal was the best HSU QB I had seen, but Feaster changed my mind.  He is a great player.

Great game today and I must admit I am glad it will be the last time the Cru plays HSU this year. They are a great team and Feaster is amazing.

Does anyone have an update on ZaVious Robbins? I saw him get up and walk off the field but for a moment it looked like it could have been a terrible ending to the game.

Congrats to the Cru on a great win to beat a rival 7 out of the last 7 times including 3 in the playoffs is not an easy feat at all. Amazing game its up to UMHB to represent the ASC and all of Texas football. I guess a question is raised (not being mean) Is it time for Jimmie Keeling to call it quits- I know the rumor is he will not quit until he beats UMHB and didnt know what happens next for the HSU coach

Sader,

I hope you were either stoned out of your mind or kidding with this comment. You've got to be crazy to suggest A) Coach Keeling would not hang it up when he is ready of feels it is the right time. B) That two losses to a very talented UMHB team would constitute the need for him to resign his coaching duties.

I'll pretend you were joking but if not i'd like for you to stop posting because you are an absolute MORON. Good luck the rest of the Way UMHB.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I will make the case right now!

I really hope that UMHB runs the table.  That means that they beat a highly respected Wesley team at home.  They probably beat Millsaps on the road, but a home win over W&J doesn't hurt their "creds" either.

Semifinals?  I think that that would be old friends, Willamette or Whitewater, but there are no slouches in the semis.

As for the Stagg, MUC?

Okay, UMHB has just beaten four more quality opponents.  Jimmie Keeling has two road losses to UMHB, by 2 and 3 points. I will make the case that HSU is the #2 team in the country and definitely Top 5.

Not bad for such an "ol' codger".  He almost has HSU back where he wants them!  ;)

Sounds like it was a great game yesterday between HS and UMHB. They kept flashing the score update on the board during the Willamette/Occidental game. Seemed like the score changed every time I looked. Congrats to both teams. I wouldn't be one bit surprised if UMHB wins the South. HS, we look forward to seeing you back in the NW next season.

I heard this record setting score on the radio this morning regarding another school in Abilene. From the D2 playoffs:

Abilene Christian    93
West Texas A&M   68

Crazy!
A packed student section behind an end zone cheering on guys they will actually see in class on Monday is almost as cool as The Streak.

hey all you umhb folk, saying hi again.  this is getting to be a yearly get together.  we get to come to you guys this year.  just finished up making the reservations and plan a trip to see grandma in san antonio on friday, visit the alamo and river walk.  looking forward to the warmer weather as yesterday was the coldest i have been since whitewater 2 years ago.

will be looking forward to sharing some insight for the game and hopefully i will get to see some of you at the game.  i believe i met roocru and his son at the stagg last year, if i have the wrong folks i am sure you will let me know who it was that we were hanging with at the stone station tailgate.

since it is texas, i am sure that there is some good tailgating before the game.  you will have to let me know where to go.  we are staying about 3 miles from the school so any suggestions for good food will also be appreciated since we are flying in on thanksgiving day, arriving about noon.

i noticed that umhb threw the ball a little more than usual yesterday, is that change due to necessity or coaching philosophy?  sounds like it was a really good game.

Wesley Dad- it was a very good game.  Some questionable calls but overall very good.  The Wesley fans might as well bring their artificial noisemakers because nothing seems to be done when they are  used.  For the majority of the game the UMHB band continued to play after the ball was put in play which is against the NCAA Division III playoff rules.  The HSU fans are usually very loud with their cowbells but they were silent yesterday. as they should have been.  Our fans know how to follow the rules.  Good luck to both teams.

Mom,

With all due respect I believe you are wrong about the bands playing during play in football games.  I have searched the D3 football manual and can find no reference to this.  Rule 8a specifically says;

a. Noisemakers. Artificial noisemakers, air horns, electronic instruments, cannons, etc., are not permis-sible. Game managers are responsible for removing these instruments from the stadium.

Any game you watch a college football game on TV the bands bands playing at all times during the game.

It is however a violation to play during the game in gym sports, such as basketball, due to the fact those games are in enclosed facilities.  If you can find the rule which states it is also a violation in football, I would be happy to revise this post.

Then if we declare Uncle Frank a drum corps he can play at the game? ;D
