Then if we declare Uncle Frank a drum corps he can play at the game? ;D

That would make him a "one man band"?   Does he have an "approved" uniform?  ;)  +k

Wesley Dad- it was a very good game.  Some questionable calls but overall very good.  The Wesley fans might as well bring their artificial noisemakers because nothing seems to be done when they are  used.  For the majority of the game the UMHB band continued to play after the ball was put in play which is against the NCAA Division III playoff rules.  The HSU fans are usually very loud with their cowbells but they were silent yesterday. as they should have been.  Our fans know how to follow the rules.  Good luck to both teams.
Maybe I am not understanding you HSU cheermom butare you trying to insinuate that your cowboys lost because of the band and because of "questionable calls." So you are saying the better team did NOT win yesterday, it was the team with a band and refs on their side..............please make me understand.

HSUcheermom

No, I did not say that you should not have won. The score board told it all I suppose. But I did feel that there were a few questionable calls.  The comment about the band was that I believe in following the rules on and off the field.   But obviously you don't believe that they are for everyone to follow.  I don't think the band effected the outcome of the game but good sports usually follow the rules.  Have you every looked at the rules for playoffs? Megaphones aren't allowed either but there was a person standing out in front of the endzone bleachers yelling the whole game and leading the crowd with a megaphone and it sure wasn't a cheerleader.   And yes, I did watch all of the game but it was hard not to miss the blantant disregard of the rules of play during playoffs.

Bill McCabe

You're kidding, right.  From yesterdays great game you took away the band playing and illegal noise?  Incredible.

Take off the homervision goggles, mom. The next time the NCAA tells a band it can't play during a playoff game will be the first.

Mom,

Here is the link to the NCAA page which has another link to the .pdf file entitled "2008 NCAA Division II and Division III Football - Preliminary Rounds Manual (.pdf)".

http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?ContentID=390#DIII

I have used the search tools to find references to bands, noisemakers, cheerleaders and megaphones.  I can find nothing in this file to validate your remarks about not following the rules.  You are welcome to search the document yourself!  If you have another source which backs up your claim, please post it because I suspect that UMHB and all other schools in the playoffs would like to know the proper rules to enforce.

I know the UMHB Athletic Director to be an honorable person who would not knowingly violate any rules.  Also, Coch Mohr from Trinity was present as a representative of the NCAA to insure rules were being followed.

Unless you can prove differently, I think it is your remarks about UMHB sportsmanship that are out of line.   >:(

No, I did not say that it was not a good game and obviosuly anyone that attended the game got something out of the game.  As I stated I believe in the rules of fair play on and off the field   Here is the link to the rules in question.  There are definite differences in DIII  football rules as opposed to other divisions which some people are unaware of.

look at page 9 under Cheerleader, Mascots and Band-

If you read the rules it should clear up the point I was making.  Good luck to UMHB

LMAO....WOW typical HSU fan. Illegal noise makers....... Cheerleaders who aren't cheerleaders.... UMHB's 20 person band being to loud for the fearless Cowboys.... It's called football. If your Boys can't handle a little noise then they didn't deserve to be playing the game. You should be more upset about the horrible squib (sp) kick at the end of the game that gave UMHB such good field position....not the band. Regardless what the rules are for D3 football.....the rules are put in place to limit the "Home Field" advantage....if Belton stadium is to loud for you then yall shoulda won in October. Last time I was at Shelton for a UMHB vs. HSU game it was pretty quite....maybe that would of been a better atmosphere for your Boys to play in. All else aside.....Due to work I was only able to catch the last 8 minutes of the game......prolly the best 8 minutes of a UMHB game i've seen as a spectator. HSU faught very hard and lost by a slim margin....HSU had a great season and it's unfortunate that they had to meet in the first round once again. The Cowboys don't have anything to hold their head about....they have my respect. Both games this year could of went either way....two D3 powerhouses dukin it out....GO CRU!!!
Walking on thin ice cuz someone lost......again.

wesleydad

seems like the noisemaker issue is arbitrarily enforced.  wesley fan uncle frank was asked not to bang his little drum by the security at the game against muhlenberg.  as most players will tell you they hardly hear any of that stuff unless it is right next to the field.  crowd noise is just that noise.  as far as the band playing during a play, i think that is unprofessioal if that is what occured, not sure if it is against ncaa rules as a band may not fall under the artificial noisemaker rule.

It appears to me that once again the illustrious NCAA have conflicting information they are putting out to the administrators and fans.  I tried to backtrack mom's url to its source but was unable to do so.

Al I know is that I have never seen a football game where the bands did not play anytime they wanted to and I have seen a lot of NCAA games and spent 35 years coaching in Texas high schools (which is one of two states to play by NCAA rules, not Federation rules) where they play all the time.  I have seen eight season of D3 games including several long runs into the playoffs and this is the first time I have heard of theis rule or more importantly heard anyone slander the sportsmanship of a university and its fans for it.  By the way, I still have seen nothing about megaphones!  ::)

PS;  Wesleydad, it definitely does not fall under the listing of artificial noisemakers.  Also, yes, you were right.  It was my son and I you met at last year's Stagg Bowl.  We already have our flights for this year's game as well!

wesleydad

roocru, good.  will you be at the game on saturday?  we will have to get together before it if you are.  if not, give me some good info on restaurants and such in the umhb area.  we will also be at the stagg this year.

wesleydad

roocru, i know in pa, they have a rule that the band has to stop playing during a play from the line of scrimmage.  noise is part of the atmosphere and fans should be allowed to scream and hollar all they want.  why else do we go to the games?  cowbells are great, always need more cowbell.
