welcome aboard nice to have another HSU alum around. Interesting discussion about Coach Fred. I was wondering Ron if he really had a shot at it? Would be a great opportunity for him though.

I think he'd be a great choice.

That said I think he's probably on the second tier.  If the current D-1 guys come too dear, he might have a shot b/c there's not a lot of funding at UTSA and there's not a lot of business/alumn support there, either.

Can anyone else deduce to whom these clues lead?

i'm gonna guess josh knox. heck of a center and a great guy so i hear. welcome aboard sir any idea how the cowboys will look this year josh?

Thanks cowboyfan, it was awesome to play offensive line for HSU and help contribute to the tradition of the offensive line at HSU. Offensive line is the best position to play, but I'm a little biased. The Cowboys should be ready for a great year in the fall. We have some great skill guys coming back, and even though we graduated most of the line, there is a talented group waiting to take over. Defensively we improved very much this year and it should continue to get better because we had a relatively young defense. I know they are working hard in offseason right now. Coach K wouldn't have it any other way.

I found the following on a SA Spurs board; if true UMHB fans can relax:

don harris of woai reported yesterday the final 3 [UTSA] candidates are bradley, macintyre, & coker will visit san antonio & the campus next week.

well guys playing against some the HSU commits ethis year and let me tell u HSU got some studs on the o line this year so they should be in good shape for a few years

Replacing multiple year starters with "stud" d3 high school recruits is not as easy as it sounds.
But, good luck...  8)

Yeah, 18 year-old freshmen get mauled by 21 year-old men who have been in the college weight rooms for three years.

QuoteThe committee, which met February 10-11 in San Diego, also is reminding Division III members of the approaching increase in minimum sports-sponsorship requirements, in which institutions with an enrollment of more than 1,000 undergraduate students must sponsor at least 12 sports (six for men, six for women) beginning in 2010.

Doesn't HPU have more than 1000 undergrads?  (The Yellow jackets only sponsor 5 & 5.)

Does any other school in the conference need to add sports to comply?

i think u might be underestimateing the abilities of there 18 year olds... some of the high school programs that we come from send three or four kids to D1 level such as Denison, Rider etc... so we studs maybe more talented than u give us credit for...

Mr. HSU Football Commit,

You think to highly of yourself. You are the perfect example of followers, charlatans of sorts. Those who copy or imitate all or most of the aspects dealing with their idols, "The Cru". They may wish to have certain championships, skills, rings, etc., of their idols, "The Cru" instead of their own.

You are annoying. A word describing an excessively talkative or irritating person, who, thinks he is the savior of the cowboys' and has come to rescue the mangled, battered, "merked" cowboys after numerous defeats to the Cru. Why do you continuously talk as if you are the long lost savior! Ah' what a joke... Ha Ha Ha!

When will you get in a Varsity game? Most likely a wannabe, I'll be ready to verbally abuse you at the JV games on Monday night. You can hold my rings after the game. You can't wear them because only champions deserve the right to put them on.

HSU has not beat "The Cru" since you were in 8th grade!

Not really.

I won't flame you for your posts.  We see talented freshmen in this conference frequently, but the reality of college football is that the most successful programs in the ASC go three-deep in their offensive and defensive lines.  You just cannot add one or two freshmen to an ASC line and see any impact at the top level.

I don't think that you have really encountered the difference between 18 year old freshmen and 21 year old seniors.  That is why almost every ASC program does run a JV program.

Texas is blessed with outstanding coaches who prepare the finest high school athletes in the country for college play.  We have had outstanding off-season programs in Texas for more than a half century.  The physiological truth of the matter is that I can almost bet that you will be 2" taller, 40 lbs heavier four years from now and that you can increase your lifts by measurable quantums each year between now and 2012.

Why do I know this?  Because every ASC player worth his salt is hitting the weights this weekend.

You may burst into the rotation for linemen this season at HSU, but you are going to be seeing some All-Americans across the line from you next fall.

I wish you luck, the number of new freshmen who start this journey attenuates to about 1/4th or 1/5th or less by their senior years.

Good luck.

Do you really want to make your family proud?

Promise your parents, your grandparents and your high school coach that you will make the Dean's List in the fall semester of your freshman year.

Do the math.  You cannot destroy a 4.0 GPA after the first semester!

It takes a Herculean effort even to salvage a 2.0 GPA after the first semester!

HSWho2007 -- Come on. We all hear those kinds of posts from newbies at all our schools. We can hold them accountable without the classless piling on such as you did. At least he is young and -- so -- has an excuse. What is yours?

HSU Commit -- You may want to notice that HSU All-American , etc. center Josh Knox refrained from posting until after his HSU playing and coaching days. My understanding is that this is what the coaches really prefer. And it is a good idea. Playing even high-level 5A ball in Texas is different from playing at the higher echelons of D3. It will, indeed, be a different world. Study hard, work hard, play hard. And, please please please do not turn out like "some people we know."
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

I would also like to point out HSU Football Commit that all of the top D3 football programs have been getting talent from those same schools that you came from and yet very few see the action. Last year only a couple actually saw playing time for the Cru and none really made a difference and I imagine it was the same way at HSU.

But I would like to thank you for reminding me of TLU GOAT, you did not even come close to his level of arrogance but you have provided some discussion like he did last off season.

Pat, he was trying to refer to high school programs . Denison High School is in Denison. HSU football commit played there and apparently missed a few classes. Rider High School is in Wichita Falls.
