Cru Info -- As you posted, "Some of us worked hard to get what we have . . ."
That is Mr. Taff's very point. When you fail to attribute, you are not "working hard", but stealing from someone else's hard work.
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

2009 ASC Pick'ems Contest info is at Post #350

I strongly encourage ASC fans to buy a copy of the 2009 Kickoff to help you with non-conference opponents.

Football season is getting close, and I think that I have found the first bit "bulletin board material", the HSU 2009 Football Schedule.

Haha, I noticed that a while back and wondered if anyone who commit.

Hey, and just as a reminder, we named an ASC guy to the team who ran for 109 yards last year. Did anyone else name Quincy Daniels a preseason All-American?

Daniels ran for something like 1556 yards, scored 21 TDs, and was the third RB on the All conference first team in 2007 as a soph.  Although talented, he did not make the 2007 D3Football All-American list at any level, and played just one game in 2008.  He must be awfully darn good to make to make the 2009 preseason All-America team after laying off a year, especially when there are over 400 RBs vying for the same spot.  What made the difference for him?

I think he was second in the country that year in yards per carry averaging 7.5 per rush. Scoring 21 touchdowns on just 211 carries is impressive. If he's kept his speed after the surgery, he should be one of the fastest DIII running backs in the country.

He split rushes with Jarvis Thrasher in 2007. I'm not sure how many rushes he'll end up with this year, because they should have another tandem of great running backs.

When you are the best back and returning from an injury and are still regarded as the clear-cut starter on that team, you will probably garner the pre-season award.
Again this is one of the best teams in the country over the last 5-6 years or so. This just gets you more positive press.

Any HSU posters comming up to McMinnville in Sept?

There should be quite a few followers to the game.  Hoping for another great contest between 2 very good teams.

#3 and #5 in the polls.  Can't wait for them to meet.  Not a bad statement for the ASC.

How many people on here can say "I'm an alumnus of 2 top 5 d3 football schools."   I'll start the count with 1. ;D
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

Congratulations to both schools.  For this honor to happen with two schools from the same conference, conference rivals, and sisters schools,(Hardin family) speaks highly of UMHB/HSU's great traditions.  They are both deserving of their rankings. I am looking forward to a great year and another great battle for the conference championship!

After looking at Hardin Simmons football schedule this year I must say I am impressed.  They could have scheduled some lesser talented programs, but with the duo they face in the first two weeks they will be prepared for conference.  Do any of you believe that with the rankings of HSU/UMHB, and the formidable scheduling of Linfield and Whitworth,(traditioally tough opponents) does HSU have one of  the strongest schedules in D3?  I think so.  I even saw this in ETBU scheduling SJU last year.  As a UMHB fan I do not see the same level of play in our schedule Southern Nazarene NAIA, and Southern Oregon NAIA).  UMHB's loss to Southern Oregon had many factors due to heavy injuries, plus not playing well.  We need the tougher schedule to help when we play HSU and other top programs.  Kuddos, to Coach Keeling and the Cowboys for facing two tough non-conference foes. This should prepare them well for the conference race, barring injuries, and the Cru knows that full well.  (Daniels being out last year!) Still I am impressed with the Cowboys demeanor on scheduling.

I am now looking for the turn to the fall, I wish we started camp today, better yet played tomorrow! :o

CRU96,

In all fairness to both programs, finding someone who wants to play UMHB or HSU is also a challenge.

How many coaches did UMHB call before they got a game?

They are dealing with only 3 available and specific dates.

Many possible candidates may be playing old rivals.  McMurry has played Trinity about 40 times and Austin College about 60-70 times.

There are no local foes to play beyond those.  Southern Nazarene is the second in the series.  Southern Oregon is an isolated NAIA school that is just happy to find a game.

The game that I am happiest about is Whittier vs Sul Ross in El Paso!  That is a "new " game.

I agree Ralph, it must be difficult to get those games scheduled.  My hope is for UMHB to schedule top tier programs in the future to help down the road and to get play-off level competition prior to playing a program like HSU.  Even so, it will be a challenge every week for the Cru.  I too like the game with Whittier and Sul Ross in El Paso.  That is a nice touch!  Way to go Sul Ross!
